That is sooooo awesome that you've lost inches--you are very strong to be able to continue eating well and measure at a time like this!  Good job!  I have had four dogs pass away over the course of my life, and three of those four were unexpected, sudden losses--although I don't know exactly how you feel, I know how hard it is to have to experience that kind of a loss.  It's devastating, a part of the family is gone--but life keeps moving forward and people can choose to move with it.  Your new family member will bring you such joy--it will not replace Oscar, but it will fill a different kind of space in your hearts--one that you didn't even realize you had 😊 I'm so excited for your new adventure!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar   518.7 #335 7-9-14 9:48PM Like  Reply

I'm sorry, mrs.mouse.  Keep riding!  Remember that regular exercise has so many benefits: just getting your heart rate up and working your lungs helps decrease your chance for lots of diseases and cancers in the future.  Each rotation of your pedal moves you forward, health wise, even if you don't see it reflected on the scale.  Plus, it's keeping you from gaining :)  We are so proud of you and happy that you found an exercise that brings you happiness!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar   518.7 #335 6-1-14 6:34PM Like  Reply
Very good advice for all of us! - msdizmaui  610.4 #275 6-22-14 12:58AM
I'm not someone who loses weight easily, so I kinda had to come to terms with it (some people just have to cut out soda and start walking a mile a day and can lose 10 pounds like *that*--I am not one of those people!).  I really think that as a society, we should try to relax and actually enjoy exercise and focus on well being, rather than weight loss, because weight loss just doesn't happen sometimes.  However, it's been proven time and again that long term exercise is crucial for overall health now and in one's future.  Society kind of teaches us that exercise equals weight loss, but it's not necessarily true (female Olympic athletes are rarely skinny, and often their BMI falls in the "overweight" category--but they exercise more than most people work at a full time job each week, lol).   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  518.7 #335 6-24-14 7:55PM

I wear a medium. Check out the SparkleSkirt Princesses group in Facebook. I just looked at the website.  I LOVE the built in zipper pocket.  Only trouble is that I'm very self conscious about my upper legs (how do you tighten up the top of your legs above your knees!).  I'd need one that came down to my knees and then it would look weird.  God love you all that can wear them, but I have to stick to capris! I hear you.  I know it's frustrating, but that's exactly what is supposed to happen at the beginning--totally normal :)  We used to tell the ladies at the gym not to weigh for the first month or so after they began exercising because it gets discouraging.  Remember that the scale is just a number, and it's not really the best way to measure fitness or progress.  Try measuring inches, too, and I bet you'll see yourself getting smaller :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar   518.7 #335 5-21-14 6:59AM Like  Reply

Less than 1/2 a pound (but I'd be mad at myself too).  The JC consultant gave me the lecture of how you first lose weight, then inches, then weight again, and so on and so on.  You mentioned that you've lost inches (I was a dummy and forgot to measure when I began), so the itsy bitsy gain is nothing!  I weigh tomorrow...I'll let you know! - msdizmaui   610.4 #275 3-22-14 5:50PM Like  Reply

Why is it that one brand of pants size 12 fits and another brand I tried on was a 16 petit. Boo. Was feeling good about myself, not anymore.
Whenever this happens I go buy a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt stretch jeans (in which I wear like a 4 or 6 no matter how much I weigh) or anything from Old Navy which always runs big!  - msdizmaui   610.4 #275 11-3-13 10:23PM Like(1)  Reply

This is something that actually infuriates me because they mess with our minds and our confidence.  Don't buy into that nonsense, and definitely don't  let it get you down!  They are just numbers, and subjective ones at that.  If you feel good and you're healthy, it doesn't matter whether your pants are a 12 or a 16, as long as they fit well.  You're doing great!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar   518.7 #335 11-1-13 11:47PM Like  Reply

I know I have been low on protein, I have been focusing on eating fresh fruit and veggies. As a result my calorie intake is low. I've cut out sugar and decreased my soda intake. However, I'm having a slow week weight loss wise. Could it b  More...
Here's what Weight Watchers recommends. I think these guidelines are useful for anyone who is trying to develop healthy eating habits: The 8 Good Health Guidelines 1. Fruits and vegetables: Eat at least five ½-cup servings of fruits and vegetables per day. A serving is ½ cup, except for leafy greens which are 1 cup per serving. For those over 350 pounds, 9 servings are recommended. 2. Whole grains: Choose whole grains whenever possible. Choose whole-wheat (or oat or multigrain) bread, instead of bread made with refined white flour; whole-wheat pasta instead of white; and brown rice instead of white. 3. Milk products: Get at least two 1-cup servings of milk a day. Eat at least 2 servings of non- or low-fat milk products each day. A serving is 1 cup. Increase to 3 servings if you’re over 50 or weigh more than 250 pounds. 4. Water: Drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of water each day. If this is hard for you, try flavoring your water with fruit or cucumber slices. Cups with measurements and/or built-in straws help too. Up to half of your daily fluid intake can come from decaffeinated drinks other than water, such as milk, juice or herbal tea. 5. Oil: Have 2 teaspoons of healthy oil each day. Two teaspoons of olive, canola, safflower, sunflower or flaxseed oil are recommended—so your body gets the vitamin E and essential fatty acids it needs. 6. Protein: Make sure you get enough protein. A serving or two a day will keep you healthy. Choose low-fat sources such as skinless poultry, lean meat, fish and eggs. 7. Sugar and alcohol: Limit your intake. Both contain empty calories. Avoid processed foods with added sugar. And experts recommend no more than one serving of alcohol per day for women, and no more than two per day for men. 8. Vitamins: Take a multiple vitamin-mineral supplement every day. Every body is different, so talk to your doctor to figure out the right multivitamin for you. - vernswifevickie   399.4 #477 8-11-13 8:22AM Like(2)  Reply

I read something a few day ago about too much of a calorie deficit. If you don't eat enough calories your body goes in to starvation mode. Maybe try to include a small amount of protein with every snack and meal and see if that helps? I always think of "meat" when I hear the word protein, but I'm discovering there are many other options to get protein. - Fanatic4Disney   267.3 #1048 8-10-13 10:55PM Like  Reply

Lets talk about goal setting and how you cope with not reaching a goal. For me, if I don't reach a goal, I give up because clearly the goal was unattainable and why continue to try. I am learning to not give up and to continue on.
That is the key, isn't it? To realize that just because you missed the mark this time doesn't mean you have no hope to hit it the next. It's like learning to ride a bicycle - when you fall down you just have to get back on and keep trying. It's so hard when you fall short. I think that asking "why" is a really important part of living life fully and deeply. I've always been a very persistent person, whether in school, sports, work, with my family, or whatever. Its just my personality, and it can be both a blessing and a curse. One thing an instructor once told me is that my natural ability is not the deciding factor in whether or not I achieve my goals: what matters more is whether or not my heart is in it. So, for me, if I'm stumbling in an area of my life, sometimes I have to ask myself: is my heart in this? Why is this a goal of mine? Why did I fall short and what can I do differently? Will my life (or the lives of those around me) be enriched by this goal? Sometimes, I realize my goals are kinda silly, other times, I realize that my heart really IS in it, and I need to get my butt in gear. I feel like I'm really rambling here, and may not have really answered your post, but these are my thoughts, however disorganized they may be 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar   518.7 #335 8-8-13 5:02PM Like  Reply
Yikes that is a tough one for me because my goals are way off in the horizon t this point.. But I have to tell you what helped me today.. It was walking miss pearl. I bailed on her yesterday and felt horrible .. So my goal today was get out early and walk her Because I read all of the chub 33 posts and since I bring y'all with me.. Teehee I didn't want to let you down again.. I also deal with life's sreese so much better after exercise .. I am also an avid list maker.. Meals.. Chores ext and it feel good to mark my calendar with a "W" walk for the pearl. I find istart more lists when I am down and the eventually am busy doing things so I don't make as many tedious ones..but that motivates me when the couch and I have seperate on anxiety .. Lol - Twinklelashes   146.4 #2594 8-9-13 9:36AM Like  Reply
Sometimes we need to refocus: to shift how we see our goals (for example, instead of focusing on only pounds lost, you could focus on fat loss/ body composition, measurents, and/or lowering blood pressure or cholesterol over a few months). Sometimes we just need to give ourselves more time. You are so diligent and hardworking! Thank you for being such an inspiration! ✨💖✨ - Spoonful_O_Sugar   518.7 #335 8-9-13 4:53PM Like  Reply
