OMG!  I blame it all on the wasp.  I can relate - even though you're light years ahead of me with your double digit runs!  The other morning I got up to walk with the intention of doing 4+ miles.  Just like you, I wasn't feeling it.  I kept changing the music and giving myself pep talks but didn't work.  Went home at 3.  Tomorrow is another day.... - msdizmaui   643.1 #283 8-5-14 4:36PM Like(1)  Reply
Yes, it is--at least we both got out there and did something, even if it wasn't all that we had planned! ย Man, I don't think I've ever been stung by a wasp and it's been at least a decade and a half since I've had a bee sting...they HURT! ย My leg is sore tonight! ย I'm glad I decided to head home because I might have ended up with a swollen leg or some weird reaction if I had tried to run another four miles. I'm sorry you had a bad time. What works for me is to take each mile at a time. So instead of thinking of the whole run in your mind, tell yourself you can do the first mile and focus fully on that mile. Then do the same for each additional mile. It's a mental thing and when I work out and say I can't do it, I stop at that moment.  - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}   904.8 #181 8-14-14 11:55AM Like(1)  Reply
Thank you!  I agree--the struggle is usually mental, rather than physical.  One mile at a time is great advice (sometimes, I literally have to take it one step at a time, haha!) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  585.3 #317 8-14-14 12:23PM

I am checking in to chub33 for the first time! And it feels weird.  I have always been thin, and never had to worry about my weight.  That was until my son started kindergarten and I gained what I called the "kindergarten 15". I am a stay at home mom so I kind of sat around a bit too much while he was in school. First grade added another 10, and now I need to lose 25 pounds. I barely recognize myself.  I eat healthy, but I don't eat enough- I tend to not eat all day and then have one big meal. I am trying to get better at eating more throughout the day.  I just don't get hungry throughout the day so it is hard. I am hoping that y'all can help with some accountability and help on how to do all this since it is new to me.  Trying to lose weight for the first time at 36 is kind of intimidating. - Thumper13   482.8 #401 7-3-14 6:28PM Like  Reply

I've never trained for something like that so I wouldn't know. Woohoo!! I'm so excited for you SOS! The DL Half last year was my first ever half marathon. I did other 5K and 10K races beforehand, but I wanted Disney to be my first half. The 5K and 10K races were my "practice" races and I learned a lot from them so I definitely recommend doing some of those (for example- learning what to eat or what not to eat, which shoes work and which don't, etc.). In my training, the most I ran was about 12 miles so I knew that I could handle the half. I will say that the runDisney races spoiled me though. Now I'm very dissatisfied with the races here in Vegas. Besides the DL Half, I also ran the Wine & Dine Half in WDW and the Tinker Bell Half a few days ago. Darn it sounds so good on paper!..are you getting enough sleep?.. Maybe wind down a little earlier and try and get some more sleep in? you have time or drink coffee in the morning? - Twinklelashes   146.4 #2673 6-27-12 1:58PM Like  Reply
I know--I need to go to bed earlier, but I can't sleep! I'm a night person by nature, so this is a bit hard on me, but I'm determined to figure it out! I used to work at a gym and sometimes I'd have the opening shift (had to be there by about 4:30 to open at 4:45). I always wondered how people could possibly be so cheerful and active at that time, lol! It was hard enough to fake a smile and check people in! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  585.3 #317 6-27-12 6:24PM

My husband switches shifts often and unless he gets on the new schedule immediately then he is miserable. Sometimes he takes a sleeping pill to help him get to sleep earlier. After a few days of that routine, his body usually adjusts. I don't like taking pills and I dont drink coffee so as soon as I wake up I turn on all the lights and I start the shower off with cooler water than usual. Music helps too. Good luck! - PirateQueenBriezy   308.3 #795 6-27-12 9:57PM Like  Reply
I'm so impressed SOS!  I wish that I were a morning person...but I'm just not!  This week I set my alarm for 1/2 hour early to use my eliptical before I showered.  Didn't happen...(and probably never will!) - msdizmaui   643.1 #283 7-1-12 8:29PM Like  Reply
Lol, I honestly couldn't do it without my husband's encouragement. I've never really liked sleeping in late, but I'm not a morning person either. The weight loss is encouraging (I've been stalled lately). Went shopping today--things fit well and I felt good for the first time in a few years, really. So I came home and tried on my "skinny jeans," (bought them on my honeymoon). They've been a bit tight for the last two years, but now they fit again! So that's motivation to keep getting up early and staying motivated. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  585.3 #317 7-1-12 8:41PM
How are things goin MDM?.. Besides elliptical workout!..lil.. Gettin up early before work is tough! - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2673 7-4-12 9:58PM
It sounds like your adjusting pretty well on your own. If you ever have trouble getting to sleep, I find taking a melatonin pill very helpful. It's not like a sleeping pill because your body produces melatonin naturally anyway. Adding a little more makes me a little more tired as long as I turn off the lights and get in bed. It doesn't really work if I stay active. Costco sells a huge package of melatonin but I'm sure other stores have smaller ones as well. - TamiPoppins   40.6 #4868 7-10-12 9:23AM Like  Reply
Thank you--I have good days and not-do-great ones (felt awful this morning, and my jog went really slowly today). I thought about melatonin, but I wasn't really sure. It's relatively gentle on your body, right? I don't like sleeping pills or Benadryl or any of those because I just hate the feeling of having meds in me (I feel all dehydrated and icky). Maybe I'll buy some and try it every so often. Thank you for the feedback! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  585.3 #317 7-10-12 10:07AM

We were sitting together and had outstanding front row seats to watch the fire works. As always the fire works were magical....but then I noticed that the end of the show was different... Tinker bell flew down to the ground from onto of the matterhorn and walked up to Beau and I and escorted us to the front of the castle, then some man got on the loud speaker and said ladies and gentleman I now present you with our main act of the evening Mr. Beau! Then it started to snow and he got down on his knee and birds flew into the sky and the stars glittered. Then he said how super cool I was, and I started to cry because I am a sap and then BAM! We were engaged, we got into Cinderella's horse drawn carriage and then rode to the main entrance. Then we bought a vinylmation. and we lived happily ever after:)ย  - BooEve123   800.9 #209 11-28-11 3:40PM Like(6)  Reply

Yay SoS! There's a hill in the park I walk at everyday. When I was at my heaviest earlier this year, I'd have to stop and rest half way up. I could tell when my weight loss was starting to "count" when I could walk up without getting winded. I still use that hill as a measurement (although now it's my dog that doesn't want to run!). And you're right...those accomplishments matter, and mean more in the long run than a pound here and there. - msdizmaui   643.1 #283 10-10-11 1:24AM Like  Reply
@twinkle: if I owned a boutique, I would def have soft lighting and clothes sized smaller than they actually are (I.e.: a "6" would be labelled "4")! @MDM: the weight loss does make a difference, doesn't it? I just put hummus, provolone, and turkey on a rice was good! Way less calories than a sandwich, but still filling! What are your favorite healthy snacks? What fills you up when you're in the mood to snack?
I don't do anything special, but I do love fruit and also celery sticks with fresh almond butter. Also, I have found if you like something crunchy with your sandwich try carrot sticks instead of potato chips...they give you the crunch and just a little taste of sweet. - Duchess73   310.1 #782 10-1-11 9:15PM Like  Reply

Thanks Smackerel! I had a friend that baked like your I love pumpkin bread and make it ever year (normally by October I'd be off my diet and on my way to gaining all the weight I had lost for summer!). I still want to make it, but need to do anything I can to shave off the fat and calories. I think I'll try it (and only have 1 slice, instead of 1 loaf like in years past!). - msdizmaui   643.1 #283 10-7-11 10:08PM Like  Reply
I'll let you know how our next attempts to lighten them up go, but it might be a while because a few days ago we knocked a huge hole in our kitchen these home improvement projects! It looks like it'll be a few weeks before I can bake again. One thing we did was bake them in muffin cups- freeze or give away all but a few and you have a better chance at portion control! Good luck! - Smackerel   234.0 #1473 10-7-11 11:49PM Like  Reply

I love the kabobs at Paradise Pier. I think it's one of the places that make it easier to eat healthy in the parks. You choose you sauce and have them serve it on the side so you have control. - vernswifevickie   400.2 #519 9-11-11 3:53PM Like  Reply
I ate at both places this year. From a diet point of view, Bengal is easier - i.e you can get kabobs w/no sauce and plain, grilled veggies and it's all delicious. At Paradise Grill I had the chicken with tzatziki and asked them for no flatbread or rice and extra veggies and was told "no substitutions"! It was really good (and I was a good girl and only ate a few bites of rice and no flatbread). If I had to choose, I'd have to go with Bengal for the kabob and have the salad at Paradise Grill. HTH! - msdizmaui   643.1 #283 9-12-11 12:58AM Like  Reply
I don't really follow any specific plan--I just try to keep it balanced! Thanks, Vickie and MDM. This was helpful! I think it's worth trying out. I like that you can get the sauce on the side. And Vickie, I agree that the Bengal's portions are small, but I do like that everything is a la carte, instead of a whole pre-made plate, and one kabob is relatively cheap (at least for DL food!). - Spoonful_O_Sugar   585.3 #317 9-12-11 6:55AM Like  Reply
One last comment - it may have just been the ones I got, but the kabob at Bengal was more solid, white meat chix. I admit - I'm a picky eater - but there was a lot at the Grill that I left on the plate. Vickie - I agree, but also like the ala carte factor - especially when I just want meat & veggies! - msdizmaui   643.1 #283 9-13-11 7:14PM Like  Reply
