Im disappointed that we aren't going to disney this year. The eldest (his senior year) has chosen universal (for diagon alley) instead of disney. We will, however, be able to attend MNSSHP. At least I get one day in the magic kingdom.
I would take one day anytime :) no disney this year for me. Work won't give me my vacation. I'll need to wait till next year. Enjoy your day in wdw! - islandgirl58  289.3 #21 11:10PM

Yay for the halloween party!!! Please enjoy your day down there... Also tell us how the Universal Orlando is ( for those who never visited the site!) - otilegna  1842.2 #71 7:50AM
You should try a day next time you go , lots if fun ! - tracsant  1033.7 #2 8:02AM
I like universal and islands also. A lot if fun - mmddgp  467.4 #15 9:48AM
Hmmm. Transportation is my issue down there.... sucks not driving. Lol... but i love their citywalk! However, universal hollywood is like disneyland, which is the original park! - otilegna  1842.2 #71 11:11AM
We just get a cab and stay the day. Or Disney has mears that is 20. Round trip that me and Ed use when we go ourselves. Not bad. They pick you up right at the front if the Disney resort - mmddgp  467.4 #15 11:20AM
Angelito universal and islands orlando is so different than universal Hollywood , I really enjoyed the backlot tour but it was so tiny in comparison , I get it's the original but you would love Orlando's version , like gayle said try a cab or bus , you really will enjoy it so much more to do than Hollywood - tracsant  1033.7 #2 11:28AM
I will look forward for that universal trip! The hollywood is kinda small but we were AP then. 2 years as it is wayyyyy affordable! Lol. I love the simpson ride and the studio tour - otilegna  1842.2 #71 2:21PM
We are doing universal studios and island of adventures this trip also MNSSHP. We are only going to magic kingdom and Epcot and we are staying at Pop from September 20-26 and the wilderness lodge from 26-28th. - yessy  202.6 #38 4:43PM
we are doing Universal this summer also. But I did win a silent auction for one day park hopper passes, so we get one day in Disney as well...I am happy! - ncjal  216.4 #35 5:25PM

Not disney related: I could really use some pixie dust. My 2 teenagers witnessed a shooting outside their school today. My 16 year old is sick to his stomach and keeps crying. The 17 year old refuses to talk. At all. From what the 16 year old says they saw some gruesome things at close range. I'm trying to decide between bog for dinner and garden grill (another night) OR bog for lunch and le cellier for dinner. What do y'all suggest? My kids are teenagers with hefty appetites.
Well my Grand kids are not teenagers yet but do have hefty appetites also and they really enjoyed garden grill. It is family dinning and all you can eat. Bog for lunch is sanwhiches and fries and it is very good , never had dinner there. Le cellar is very good but can look deceiving if you want quantity. If they like chicken ribs corn Mac n cheese the hoop de do is another great place but it is 2 options if you have the dinning plan - mmddgp  467.4 #15 8:09PM
The garden grill would be your best option. This restaurants keep the food coming. The others are just a single serving not Hugh portions. - 5disneylovers  924.3 #4 8:16PM

What do y'all think of these: breakfast at crystal palace, lunches at: Biergarten, bog, and house of blues gospel brunch, and dinners at: liberty tree tavern, cape may cafe clam bake, garden grill (or chefs de France... September question: I saw a calendar on a travel agent's site for this years operating hours. All 4 parks close by 9 every night except Friday and Saturday (and only MK stays open late) and the only night there are evening EMH is Monday at both MK and HS. Sunday MK closes at 7 pm. These aren't usual times are they? I was really disappointed when I saw this calendar.
Yes standard hours for sept and I love it. You cans do so much in those hours and have down time. Alot of the 7 oclock nights at MK are for Mickeys not so scarey halloween party. We do things like putt putt, boardwalk, DTD, relax at resort, Disney quest, go to different resorts, movies on the lawn, campfires. We also plan on later dinners so that it is not taking away from park time. You will love September ! - mmddgp  467.4 #15 6:53PM
We love going that time of year. As your dates get closer the times should get later. There is usually a park open late every night since the Halloween party starts around the 2nd week of Sept. - girlonfire  54.1 #93 4:11AM
That won't make planning dining very easy. - nightmaresally  10.7 #225 11:40AM

Side question as I am not sure how WDW works really: I was looking into possible Sepetmber trip for my birthday but was worried about a lot of attraction closures due to it being a slower month. What has been the experience with attraction refurbishments and what not in the beginning/middle of September? Do lost closures happen in "off season" like at Disneyland? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but your post made me wonder - missmimi90  1538.9 #87 12:01PM

Anyone that has taken kids out of school for vacation I new advice. We plan to go in September because that's the best time for us to get off work. Our kids will be in 6th, 10th, and 12th grade (the oldest wanted disney for his last family vacation before joining the marines). They will be pulled out Of school for 8 days. What did y'all do about make up work? Did the school let them make up everyt  More...
My son is younger but the teachers were really good about emailing me things he couldn't get ahead of time. I brought a laptop and we still did the school's online reading programs so they were logged while he was gone. I know personally email has made it so easy to keep up with things better. :) - singleprincess  70.1 #3884 8:31PM
Im in college now.. And ive been going to disney since i was three. I was pulled from school every year.. Even missed my first few days of senior year! Usually just brought some work with me - Boardwalkgirl  55.2 #91 9:35PM
We have went the last 6 years and pulled our kids out of school each time. We always went in sept! I always wrote notes and let the teachers know on the first day of school that vacation was coming up and I would like homework in advance if possible. It's always been fine but this last year ( a couple months ago) was rough. It's harder the older they get. My kids r in 6th and 7 th grade. We decided after this year not to go in sept anymore. But in your case since this is a one time thing go, have fun, and just advise the school and teachers ASAP! - shewsluvwdw  58.0 #89 4:57PM
we went the week of Labor day and the kids missed 4 days. They are only allowed 5 missed days of school per semester. They are in 6th and 10th grade. My son's middle school teachers all have their lesson plans and homework on the school website, so all he had to do was look at that and do the work. My daughter's high school was much more difficult. Some teachers actually gave her a really hard time about being out of school. We will not be taking them out of school any more for trips. As others have said, it is too difficult for the older ones to catch up with their missed work! - ncjal  216.4 #35 8:01AM

Are the preferred rooms at POR worth the extra cost? We won't be in the room much, but my kids do like to snack. And they like to swim and I think they will prefer ole man island because of the slide? I've read that it can be a 15-20 minute walk from some of the rooms to the food court 😦
I'm not sure, but that's what I reserved for our next trip. There are 5 of us too so we also stay in alligator bayou. Before they started charging for those closer buildings, we got one in 2010. It was great. We were close to the bus and close to the food. In 2012, we had a garden view room and it was faaaaaaaar from the food. It was close to a different bus stop but we almost always had to stand on the bus since we weren't at the first bus stop. So, we will see if it's worth it! :) - BagGal  228.9 #31 7:45PM
Ask to stay in Magnolia bend that's close to everything. They are the big white Mansion style homes. If they put you in the Boyou rooms there are pretty far back. Also not all rooms in Magnolia Bend are premium rooms. - Pooh147856  211.3 #37 6:08PM
I wish we could..but there are 5 of us so alligator bayou is our only option. - nightmaresally  10.7 #225 6:13PM
