Not disney related: I could really use some pixie dust. My 2 teenagers witnessed a shooting outside their school today. My 16 year old is sick to his stomach and keeps crying. The 17 year old refuses to talk. At all. From what the 16 year old says they saw some gruesome things at close range. I plan to call our physician in the am and take them to see her ASAP..but in the mean time please keep us in your prayers.
I'm so sorry to hear that, how horrible! Pixie dust that they can get through this. With your support, I know they can! ✨✨✨ - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  745.7 #4 12:01AM

Mmddgp, thanks for sharing your vacation with us. I've enjoyed seeing your photos. Sorry I haven't replied to many.. Today I buried my grandfather (I was raised by my grandparents), so it's been a long week for me.

I'm trying to decide between bog for dinner and garden grill (another night) OR bog for lunch and le cellier for dinner. What do y'all suggest? My kids are teenagers with hefty appetites.
Well my Grand kids are not teenagers yet but do have hefty appetites also and they really enjoyed garden grill. It is family dinning and all you can eat. Bog for lunch is sanwhiches and fries and it is very good , never had dinner there. Le cellar is very good but can look deceiving if you want quantity. If they like chicken ribs corn Mac n cheese the hoop de do is another great place but it is 2 options if you have the dinning plan - mmddgp  355.1 #18 11:09PM
The garden grill would be your best option. This restaurants keep the food coming. The others are just a single serving not Hugh portions. - 5disneylovers  717.8 #6 11:16PM

I can make adr's Tuesday. What do y'all think of these: breakfast at crystal palace, lunches at: Biergarten, bog, and house of blues gospel brunch, and dinners at: liberty tree tavern, cape may cafe clam bake, garden grill (or chefs de France... We are undecided), akershus, and ohana. We don't have park hoppers and are spending only 1 day at ak, 2 at the other 3 parks. We will hit a park on our day out but will decide which one during our vacation so can't make plans for that day.
Looks like a great plan. Great places to eat - 5disneylovers  717.8 #6 12:13AM
You've got some great selections! - mrsincredible  731.5 #5 7:04AM
Good choices breakfast at Crystal Palace and dinner at O'Hanas are a must for us - Pooh147856  132.5 #52 2:09PM
Sounds perfect! Note - you cannot make ADRS for BOG for lunch. You will have to wait in line for QS or you can make dinner ressies. - DizneyGirl  527.1 #9 4:20PM

September question: I saw a calendar on a travel agent's site for this years operating hours. All 4 parks close by 9 every night except Friday and Saturday (and only MK stays open late) and the only night there are evening EMH is Monday at both MK and HS. Sunday MK closes at 7 pm. These aren't usual times are they? I was really disappointed when I saw this calendar.
Yes standard hours for sept and I love it. You cans do so much in those hours and have down time. Alot of the 7 oclock nights at MK are for Mickeys not so scarey halloween party. We do things like putt putt, boardwalk, DTD, relax at resort, Disney quest, go to different resorts, movies on the lawn, campfires. We also plan on later dinners so that it is not taking away from park time. You will love September ! - mmddgp  355.1 #18 10:53PM
We love going that time of year. As your dates get closer the times should get later. There is usually a park open late every night since the Halloween party starts around the 2nd week of Sept. - girlonfire  52.4 #86 8:11AM

Side question as I am not sure how WDW works really: I was looking into possible Sepetmber trip for my birthday but was worried about a lot of attraction closures due to it being a slower month. What has been the experience with attraction refurbishments and what not in the beginning/middle of September? Do lost closures happen in "off season" like at Disneyland? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but your post made me wonder - missmimi90  1297.9 #85 4:01PM

We have decided to change our reservations. We will be staying 8 nights instead of 6. I'm still worried about taking the kids out of school BUT this is the last vacation my 17 year old will take with us since he is joining the military upon graduation.
Worrying won't help, go have fun and enjoy your trip. - TheDad  63.3 #78 11:26PM

Anyone that has taken kids out of school for vacation I new advice. We plan to go in September because that's the best time for us to get off work. Our kids will be in 6th, 10th, and 12th grade (the oldest wanted disney for his last family vacation before joining the marines). They will be pulled out Of school for 8 days. What did y'all do about make up work? Did the school let them make up everything? Did your kids struggle?
My son is younger but the teachers were really good about emailing me things he couldn't get ahead of time. I brought a laptop and we still did the school's online reading programs so they were logged while he was gone. I know personally email has made it so easy to keep up with things better. :) - singleprincess  59.3 #3949 12:31AM
Im in college now.. And ive been going to disney since i was three. I was pulled from school every year.. Even missed my first few days of senior year! Usually just brought some work with me - Boardwalkgirl  54.6 #84 1:35AM
We have went the last 6 years and pulled our kids out of school each time. We always went in sept! I always wrote notes and let the teachers know on the first day of school that vacation was coming up and I would like homework in advance if possible. It's always been fine but this last year ( a couple months ago) was rough. It's harder the older they get. My kids r in 6th and 7 th grade. We decided after this year not to go in sept anymore. But in your case since this is a one time thing go, have fun, and just advise the school and teachers ASAP! - shewsluvwdw  56.9 #82 8:57PM
we went the week of Labor day and the kids missed 4 days. They are only allowed 5 missed days of school per semester. They are in 6th and 10th grade. My son's middle school teachers all have their lesson plans and homework on the school website, so all he had to do was look at that and do the work. My daughter's high school was much more difficult. Some teachers actually gave her a really hard time about being out of school. We will not be taking them out of school any more for trips. As others have said, it is too difficult for the older ones to catch up with their missed work! - ncjal  185.8 #37 12:01PM

Are the preferred rooms at POR worth the extra cost? We won't be in the room much, but my kids do like to snack. And they like to swim and I think they will prefer ole man island because of the slide? I've read that it can be a 15-20 minute walk from some of the rooms to the food court 😦
I'm not sure, but that's what I reserved for our next trip. There are 5 of us too so we also stay in alligator bayou. Before they started charging for those closer buildings, we got one in 2010. It was great. We were close to the bus and close to the food. In 2012, we had a garden view room and it was faaaaaaaar from the food. It was close to a different bus stop but we almost always had to stand on the bus since we weren't at the first bus stop. So, we will see if it's worth it! :) - BagGal  221.2 #31 10:45PM
Ask to stay in Magnolia bend that's close to everything. They are the big white Mansion style homes. If they put you in the Boyou rooms there are pretty far back. Also not all rooms in Magnolia Bend are premium rooms. - Pooh147856  132.5 #52 9:08PM

For those of you who have been offered magicbands: how far in advance did disney contact you? I'm very very far away (a year and 10 days) which is WAY too early I'm sure. Just curious.
From reading people's posts it sounds like they are offering them about a month or so before your trip. They said they got the notice on my Disney experience. - Schramke  402.2 #15 12:56AM
