It's comparable to ap discount, if you call in house reservations before 5 pst, they'll find the discount they can for you too.? - secretagentangel  13580.5 #9 2:31PM
😮Is there any hotel in Florida that offers MouseWait discounts❓We almost always stay on Disney property but it's nice to know. 😌 - Radio-Man  385.0 #25 2:19PM

Hey everyone! I'm Nicole from South Carolina. My first trip to WDW was in 1990 with my high school band! My next visit was for my honeymoon in 1996. The first trip we took with our children was in 2012 when the kids were 10 and 13. We have been visiting yearly ever since. We are a Disney family for sure!
Good morning. We haven't done this in a while. I'm Gayle from NE Ohio, went to Disney for the first time in 1993 and it was the only time we stayed off property in a what is now disney springs hotels. It was like a comfort in and suites I forget the name.  - mmddgp  1944.8 #3 7:28AM
😃 I'm Scott (also known as Radio-Man) from Jupiter, Florida, USA. My first visit was way back in December of 1971. I've been to WDW many times since❗😀⏰ - Radio-Man  385.0 #25 7:38AM

Great question...we do many things to save for Disney. We do some survey sites that give you points for each survey you take. Then you can trade them in for travel points. We use southwest rapid rewards and we have flown "free" several times already just for taking surveys.  We typically use some tax refund money for disney as well. We have looked into it and for us, DVC was not cost effectiv  More...
No way around it, Disney is expensive. There are so many hotels nearby. That's how I save. I stayed at a Value resort once, but don't see the need to do it again. Yes, staying at the Grand Floridian would be amazing, but I would never pay those prices. You can always visit it for free. I pick my splurges for the trip and scrimp elsewhere. Since I have to fly, I always check on Orbitz about making it a "package". Sometimes the hotels are super cheap that way.  - JenGwen323  2291.6 #84 11:41PM
My husband just found a fantastic deal on Orbitz for a trip this July 4th holiday. Hotel at Hilton Bonnet Creek (six nights), flight with Virgin airlines (SFO to MCO), plus car rental (Nissan Altima size) four travelers for just over $3000. The flight alone through Virgin is usually more than that. - GoofyMom77  1162.9 #191 10:18AM
That's awesome. So orbits is good? Do they do disney hotels as well? - mmddgp  1944.8 #3 9:45AM
We stay off site every other year. If we did not we could not go every year. The years we stay on site we make sure we do the free dining and go during value season. This means pulling our kids out of school, but I've come to terms with that and I'm quite alright with it. Staying in a condo saves us thousands of dollars because we eat there, and it's probably 10% to 30% of a moderate or Deluxe resort. We also drive down and we live in the midwest so it's a 24-hour total drive (each way). It cost us about $950 to drive down and back, but flights would be around $4,000 during the times we want to go. We do buy groceries and eat in our condo with just one meal in the park per day. We also opted not to do the park hopper pass, we're not big fans, as we feel you lose time as you're transported from one park to another, and it can save you quite a bit as well. - DizneyGirl  1564.3 #5 4:09PM

We went back and forth on DVC for about 5 years. We pulled the trigger in 2015 and went for it. The only regret we have is that we didn't do it sooner. Dvc really does give you a lot more flexibility of where you are staying (9 resorts ) on property.  We also took advantage of the dvc discount on annual passes as well.   - skywalker  272.4 #36 7:46PM

What are the ages of the children going with you?
It's much cheaper staying off site. We rotate from year to year. You can get a3 bedroom 3 bathroom townhome for $55 to $90 a night. Remember if you stay off site you need transportation and you can't do magic hours. - DizneyGirl  1564.3 #5 7:12PM
Where do you find these rentals?  Which sites are reliable?  And if using AirBNB, etc, is there a good way to find 'legal' properties?  (I've heard a few horror stories.) - TiggersAndTinks  204.6 #2091 8:02AM
I use HomeAway.com I could send you the property number we stayed in last year. It was as close as you can get without being on site.  - DizneyGirl  1564.3 #5 10:51AM
Also oakwater resort is super close and we've stayed there before.  - DizneyGirl  1564.3 #5 10:52AM
Get tickets to mvmcp, short ride waits, special characters, treats and so much fun. We don't do dinning any more, we usually do a dinner reservation for dinner and when we go hungry we split a quick service..,plenty of food for us. Take bottle of water. Refillable bottle or a case of water...amazon prime now has groceries you can by..,they just need 2 hr notice before you want it to arrive. Can't sign up for prime trial and use it, then cancel the trial. Peter Pan, soaring, test track, seven dwarfs mine train, space mtn (sometimes it's a short wait), sarifi, toy story mania are our must fp+ attractions  - TinkTinkTink  305.0 #32 1:44AM
Christmas time is amazing and I have always wanted to wake up on Christmas morning in Disney. I think I'm going to make that my goal the year I retire. We went a couple years ago in dec and my favorite thing to do was listen to the story tellers at Epcot and the processional( story of Christmas with Christmas music) All the decorations through out the parks are amazing. The gingerbread displays in some of the resorts all sound amazing. Wish I had moreTime to see them. The week of Christmas the is no Christmas party but you can see the parade with out paying the up charge. The sleigh ride at fort wilderness was fun. As far as where to stay, we have only stayed off property once, we just like the convience of the buses and other transportation on property. We mostly stay in a value resort for the price and the fact that you are rarely in your room. You can't go wrong with any disney resort and you are truly in a world all your own while there. Our favorite value is pop century for the food court and the busing. Since you have a boy and a girl there is also rooms that have sleeping for 5 at port orleans riverside which is a nice resort as well, we stayed there last year. Happy planning - mmddgp  1944.8 #3 8:34PM
Biggest tip: MAKE A LIST. Use these awesome suggestions ^^^ and look into the rides you want to do. Make a list of the FPs you need to make and order them from hardest to get to easiest to get. However, this means you have to also know what times you would want these for and what days. I do a crazy amount of planning for my trips, using touring plans website to find the best park to go to each day and planning where I will be in the park at specific times to coordinate my FPs. When you hit that 180 mark (not sure the time you can begin making ressies) you jump online or call Disney and make the dining ressies. Then at 60 days you set up your computer or phone on your mydisneyexperience site for FP+ and at 7am you begin from the top of the list getting the hard FPs for the time you want them based on where you'll be each day. You can make FPs for any day and any park (but only one park FPs-not one for MK and later on that day one for EP). I got every single ride I wanted this way and it helped plan the rest of my time in each park.  - ariel116  114.5 #70 6:07PM
