I wasn't sure if you guys wanted to match identically or not, so I made each shirt's color scheme a little different, keeping with the Mickey and Lion King theme. Your's are on the top, Paula's are on the bottom. Hope you like them!! I will be mailing them to Gary and Nancy this week to give to you when y'all meet up at DL!!

For those of you interested in making your very own tie-dyed Disney shirts, I documented the steps yesterday when I made some more, and will post the steps in pieces. If you miss a step, just go to my profile page and read from the bottom up. Step 4 - the FLip side, completing the dye process and adding the Disney magic. Once you have added your colors on one side of the shirts, turn the shirts over and repeat the steps. Note: you may want to have some paper towels handy at this point, to mop up the dye on your work station after you pick your shirt up, before placing it back down on its dyed side. When the shirts are fully covered in dye on both sides, wrap the shirts in plastic wrap or put them in freezer bags to let the dye set on your workstation overnight. The longer they set, the more vivid the colors. I have waited 6-8 hours and also overnight. It really does make a difference the longer they set. Once you have let your shirts set the desired time, remove the shirts from the plastic over your sink, and remove the bands. Run cool water over the shirts to remove the excess dye, until the water runs clean. Put the shirts in the washing machine and wash/dry them as you would with your normal colored laundry (I wash them by themselves according to their color if I am making different colored shirts). When the shirts are dry, you can wear them as is, or paint a Disney design on them. To paint, lay the shirt out on a table, add a piece of cardboard in between the layers, and paint anything you like using different colors of fabric paint and paint brush. My favorites are the Mickey silhouettes with black paint - just choose an image everyone will recognize, and I'm sure it'll turn out great! You can use anything to transfer the images. I normally just print the images from my computer on paper, cut them out and trace the image with a fabric or permanent marker. Good luck... let me know if you have any questions!!

Fill in one end of a pie on the shirt. Try to stay in the lines of the bands, but don't panic if it bleeds - this process is very forgiving! Once one pie is colored in, go to the opposite side of that color/pie piece and full it in. Be careful, as you lift the bottle and place it back down, the dye splatters easily! When you are finished with one color on all the shirts, repeat the steps with your next color. Note: if you are doing just one color, you would just saturate the entire one side of the shirt here. And, if you're doing two colors, the color you want to dominate on the shirt would just be added to two sides and their opposite sides, leaving two pie shapes free for the other color.

I like to use the dye packets shown... you can buy them at your local hobby or craft store (along with the tie-dye kits that will include everything you need if you don't already have the supplies at home). Fill each bottle with the color of your choice. I have found that one bottle will complete ~2 shirts. The more dye you add, the darker the color. So, if you want two different shades of red (a lighter and darker), put a small amount of red dye in one bottle and twice as much in the other. I have also found that using three colors for each shirt color works best, but I have also used 2 or 1 color (our orange AK Lion King shirts) and they turned out just fine. Just remember, the more colors, the more your swirl on the shirt will be defined. Fill the bottles with water to the fill line, replace the cap and shake well (until all the dye residue has dissolved). Place your dye bottles on your work station (keeping your colors separated), and arm yourself with plastic gloves!!

If you miss a step, just go to my profile page and read from the bottom up. Step 1: Prepare the shirts. I buy the packaged Hanes t-shirts. Wet the t-shirt thoroughly and wring it out. Lay the damp shirt out and place a fork where you want your swirl to begin (get creative here, doesn't always have to be the center of the chest!). Twist the fork and allow the fabric to wind up around it, make sure the shirt stays as flat as possible, pat it down as you wind if needed. Remove the fork, and carefully bind the shirt with three rubber bands (the shirt will resemble a flower). You want to make sure there are distinct pie-like sections created by the bands as they will be your guide for the dye later. Set them aside on your prepared work station (I lay plastic down and a coat of aluminum foil). Stay tuned for Step 2!!
