Every Disney half marathon has a 5K that same weekend. It's a 3.1 mile walk with character stops so you can have your photo taken, etc. My friends all have kids who have done it with us starting at age 4 or 5. They train by going on family walks on weekends which the kids love. The theme changes every race. Last year's princess 5k was Tangled. The year before ir was Beauty and the Beast to commemo  More...

Definitely agree with Nikki. My biggest mistake for my first half marathon was not getting fitted for shoes. I got blisters like I'd never seen before and seriously considered never running again. Find a local running store that will evaluate your stride and your foot fall and will give you a good idea of what would work better for you.
A year ago I would have laughted at anyone who would have told me I could do a Half Marathon. Well I did it! At first I signed up for the Tink thinking I'd walk it. They said you should train at 15 min/ mile pace (which is a fast walk). Then I was challenged... someone said why don't you try jogging a little bit of it. With gradual training I ended up running ~90% of it (walking inclines and water stations). Not only that i think i smiled most of it. Running through DL and DCA, characters and CM cheering us on. Floats, bands, music, and many, many people cheering us on (including MErs). It was one of my top 5 Disney experiences. Both my teen daughters ran the 5k the same weekend and now want to run longer races. I hope to inspire others to do it. Start with a 5k. It's a fun event that can motivate you to get fit. - NikkiMickey  1682.7 #71 3:24PM
Wow! That's inspiring! I usually walk at 3.5 and can jog for 2-3 min at a time. I'm in decent shape, I've just never been a runner. I think I could handle a 5k! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  801.1 #3 3:30PM
Thats great you can already walk 3.5! It's surprising how quickly i was able to go from only being able to running 30 seconds at a time to 1/2 marathon ready....4 months of training. Pretty amazing considering it had been 20 years since I had last run. I walk plenty but always disliked running. Now I continue to run 12 miles a week. - NikkiMickey  1682.7 #71 4:37PM
You are an inspiration!!! I want to do it. Where there is a will, there's a way right??? 😊 Maybe when my youngest is a little older, it will give me more free time to train. - mrsincredible  768.8 #6 4:48PM

I've done 2 princess weekends, 2 goofy weekends (no I am not Goofy, lol), and the inaugural tower of terror last year. wdw is huge and a totally different experience from DL. It was a shock to me but a very cool experience. If you're considering traveling for a Disney race I have a couple travel agents I'd be happy to recommend. They made my life much easier and you don't pay travel agents, they give you the same prices as disney (they can even do discounts). Disney pays them. When you know nothing about wdw which was me a couple years ago that's a big help. - SorcererMky  299.6 #788 10:50PM
I agree, DL and WDW are totally different! I grew up going to DL every summer. On my first trip to WDW I WAS a travel agent and I was still totally overwhelmed! It's very doable MrsIncredible. 2 years ago the weather was brutal (I don't do well in high humidity) and I walked almost the whole thing. If you are a faster walker you are golden. If you are a slow walker then I suggest trying intervals. Walk a couple minutes then run a bit them walk a bit then run a bit. When I first started I couldn't even run for a minute and had to train to get there. Disney  More...

And yes, the 5K time limit is a suggestion. They say 16 minute miles but I've walked every single one well over the time limits and have never had a problem. Photo ops with characters take time! lol. The 5K is a great place to start if you are worried. I always say if you can handle a day at Disney you can definitely do a Disney 5K.

We took our daughter in sept on her 4th birthday. She had a blast and I absolutely loved seeing Disney world through her eyes. Made me love WDW even more than I did before. - txdisneymomma  79.1 #68 9:13PM

I'm not DVC but have many friends who are. Yes, they tend to offer wdw ap discounts annually although the amount varies
Sorry I'm not a DVC member. But welcome to the Florida sideπŸ˜ƒ - Schramke  410.8 #15 8:03PM

Thanks so much, I appreciate the info! 😊 - MinnieMousewife  726.1 #204 8:33PM
There is always a small discount on both DL and WDW AP's, but the $400 special that just ended I have never seen offered before. Hopefully they will run that special again if it was popular and brought people to the parks more often! If you have a DL AP already I would suggest upgrading to the premier AP just before you go to WDW. Hopefully you can visit WDW soon! - Andrea84  625.8 #7 5:07AM

Why is this still listed as an active ride in the wait times section? I tried to list it as closed an accidentally submitted the max wait time.
Thanks for the update! - Ariel42  258.2 #24 6:56AM
