We were just there last week, coming from So Cal and a bit skeptical about the dining plan but went with it. We LOVED it! After asking for advice here, and from others we made dinner reservations for each night. Just stopped for QS lunch as we went. With dessert at every meal we actually didn't even use all our snacks! It was so nice not to have to worry about a food budget and just enjoy the trip!
It really depends on each family's needs.  My suggestion is go to Allears.net and look at the pricing of food that you know your family will eat and do the math.  For us we spend A LOT less not doing the dining plan.  We have used it when it's free, but this fall we did the 30% off our resort room versus the free dining and faired better. - DizneyGirl  352.8 #9 6:01PM

We always do the dining plan when we go to WDW. It's so easy- you can get whatever you want and never have to pull out a credit card or cash, just a room key. Wish the plan at DLR was the same. DLR 's isn't as good, IMHO . - Sandy  238.9 #1123 6:29AM
