Hello all! I haven't been on in a while, but so happy to be back. Question: my family is thinking about go to DW after christmas, December 26 -January 1st. I'm worried it will be insanely busy. Is it really crowded during that time? Any opinions/advice would help. Thanks!
From talking to a friend who lives there he said depending on the day...week of christmas is super busy, and new years week is super busy as well...mostly in morning and evening... New years eve you will need to get to Mk super early, last year they reach cap around 11ish..after new years and Feb is the best time to go... - islandgirl58  481.8 #19 3:26PM
Welcome back. That time is busy and sometimes parks reach capacity.  - DizneyGirl  1151.2 #8 6:52PM
Welcome back!  Yes it is extremely busy at that time - Pooh147856  426.5 #22 7:16PM
Hows your trip going? - islandgirl58  481.8 #19 7:46PM
Thank you everyone! My family doesn't seem to believe me that it will be that busy and they still want to go at that time. I'm used to going at low crowd times during the year, so I'm not very excited about this, which is sad because it's disney, my favorite place in the entire world. This is so frustrating.  - sjmommy  4.8 #463 8:13AM
I'm sure it is going to be busy but what a wonderful time to go! All the parks are amazingly decorated and there is so much to see and do. Go early and stayLate to soak in all the holiday has to offer. I know when we go during busy times our trip takes on a whole different feel and agenda. Utilize the fast passes, seek out your seats for parades and fireworks a little earlier, send some one for snacks and relax. Take in the sights and sounds of the holidays and appreciate the magical memories you will be making. Who is all going? Where will you be staying? I'm sure your trip will be amazing.  - mmddgp  1316.3 #5 8:41AM

There is a new hurricane that may hit the south of Florida on Sunday 8/30. If this happens, does anyone know how this will effect Disney World. We are leaving tomorrow and I want to prepare myself for this.
It is going to rain off and on while you are there. That is what happened with us the year we were there and a hurricane was headed towards Florida. It poured for an hour one day while we were at Epcot. With us, it didn't hit land while we were there, and actually shifted west. - Lelundrial  817.9 #249 11:40AM
We were there for a hurricane a few years ago. Disney will keep you very well informed. For us they let us know a couple of days in advance. The day before they suggested you supply your room with staples that will not go bad and you can eat while in your rooms. We had two rooms that year and bought a basket ball hoop for the door and a board game and the kids had their coloring books and crayons and Disney had a Chanel with all day Disney movies. The also had small styrofoam coolers for sale in gift shop/ food court. They did close the parks and the gift shop and food courts at the resort and put stfety nets in place for guests and workers. They had minimal staf in property. Sending ✨✨✨ and best of luck🍀 - mmddgp  1316.3 #5 9:28AM
Wow how scary to be there!! But glad they helped prepare for it  - brodysmommy  467.4 #505 9:42AM
I agree but im impressed with how well they take care of guests!!! - disneyworldsbiggestfan  72.0 #91 4:51PM
I hope its just rain and you are able to go to the parks still!!! I understand the tight budget and how it would feel to not be able to go to Disney parks. Sending pixie dust hoping it comes during the night!!! - disneyworldsbiggestfan  72.0 #91 4:53PM
Where are you staying and what do you have planned so far. I know last year they were calling for a bad rain day and I really wanted to see the new fantasy parade so I switched my days and I was so happy that I did. Do you have any down days planned that you can switch out with.  - mmddgp  1316.3 #5 5:50PM

My family is seeing Fantasmic for the first time at the end of August. Is the Fantasmic dinner package worth it? However, there are 2 showings the night we have chosen to see it. I heard the 2nd showing is not a long wait and easy to get into. Is this true? If so, we would like to use our dining reservation at a different restaurant rather than at one of the 3 fantasmic restaurants.
If you do the late show you really shouldn't need the package to get a good seat. - DizneyGirl  1151.2 #8 9:23AM
I agree! - jamiesli  56.7 #104 9:38AM
Thank you for responding!  This helps. - sjmommy  4.8 #463 6:26PM
We did fast passes for the second show last night and had great seats. - ncjal  322.3 #29 6:32PM
i went to both the early and late show a few weeks ago (different nights) and had no problem either night getting an awesome seat, got there 30 minutes before. - MinnieMousewife  923.5 #218 7:02PM
Thank you everyone! Very helpful. Think we are going to put our dining reservation to use somewhere else and arrive 30 minutes early to the 2nd showing. I am so excited to finally to this show ! - sjmommy  4.8 #463 8:38AM

My husband and I are trying to decide whether to surprise our 6 year old son the day we leave for our trip or if we should tell him ahead of time. What have you all done? Do you think it's better for them to know ahead or be surprised? Our trip is at the end of August.
That depends on your son. Does he like surprises or would he rather be actively involved in the planning process? I hate surprises and started planning our Disney vacations when I was a kid. Obviously he isn't going to be making big decisions at 6, but maybe he would enjoy being involved in getting ready for the big trip. That just helps to build the excitement! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1472.0 #3 11:40AM
I think he would be ok with a surprise, but it's fun to plan with him. I think if we surprised him the day of he would freak out and that would be so fun to see.  - sjmommy  4.8 #463 12:46PM
I'd love to surprise the girls, but they love giving input. Plus I want to know where they want to eat and what they want to do. I think a surprise would be awesome. - DizneyGirl  1151.2 #8 11:40AM
I pretty much know which restaurants he likes and which rides to fastpasses for him,  but I love planning with him too! I'm so on the fence. - sjmommy  4.8 #463 12:48PM
We surprised our 5 year old and it was a BLAST!!! We talked abt going to wdw just in general and "if we went to wdw" lol  That way we could talk abt it around her and ask her questions but she didn't know we meant NOW! Lol We didn't actually tell her until we were at the park and fly on our way in to the airport! It was so much fun! - brittandkell  547.4 #413 12:01PM
Lol....that's kind of what we are doing. We are feeling him out  and getting ideas from him in case we "were " to go again...lol. He would be SHOCKED if we're to tell him were leaving NOW! He might lose it. Haha. - sjmommy  4.8 #463 12:59PM
You could always tell him you are planning , so he can give some input , just not mention when & you can surprise him that way  - tracsant  1523.2 #2 12:51PM
Good point! Maybe we'll do that. - sjmommy  4.8 #463 1:00PM

I was wondering if anyone could help me. My family is planning a trip for the end of August. We were planning on checking in on the 27th and staying until the 3rd of September. The free dining doesn't start until the 28th. can we still get the free dining from the 28th and on even if we check in a day early? Would they allow us to pay regular price the 1st day and switch over to free dining? Any   More...
Congrats on you trip! That is a great week to go. I know in the past when we did this it was done as two separate reservations. One for the single day and the rest of your days on the other. If you go on Disney world site and check availability for the resort and your dates there is a little "chat" button that shows up you can tap that and ask any questions you need answered. They are a great help. Lucky you! You get the free dinning. Wish we could, we go August 14. Good luck - mmddgp  1316.3 #5 9:01AM
Thank you so much for the advice! I will look for that chat button this afternoon! - sjmommy  4.8 #463 9:08AM

Hi everyone! Is the end of August a good time to go to DW? I've heard it's very hot and hurricane season. Is that a real rainy time to go? I also read there are lower crowds at that time, which is a plus for me. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts. Thanks!
Not sure if it's a good time or not but that is when we are going this year to try it out. - Bakerjars  263.6 #36 5:14PM
We go every year the first 2 weeks of august it's hot. We have no problem with rides. We have a great time. It rains but it's fl. - 5disneylovers  1254.2 #7 5:40PM
Thank you everyone for your advice! I really appreciate it. I was hesitant about going that time of year. Not sure what we are going to do but I am taking all of your thoughts into consideration. What to do, what to do...? - sjmommy  4.8 #463 12:26PM
What other times of year are you considering? - MinnieMousewife  923.5 #218 12:32PM
In 2000 we went at the end of August. It was hot ,but it Florida & pools feel great !!! Crowds were very low & we enjoyed ourselves a lot . We are thinking of going again then or the first part of June . - skcanfield  589.2 #14 2:30PM

Hi all! Which moderate resort do you prefer Port Orleans Riverside or Caribbean Beach?
I've had the pleasure of staying at both. While they are both nice, my favorite was Port Orleans Riverside. CBR is the largest resort on property, so there's a lot of walking involved. The grounds at POR are beautiful! - mrsincredible  1380.4 #4 10:23AM
Thank you for your input. I have stayed at Caribbean Beach, but it was years ago. You read my mind stating there is a lot of walking at that resort. POR looks beautiful. I have a 5 year old son, do you think he would like it there? We have always stayed at POP, he loves it there. Thought we would try something new our next trip. - sjmommy  4.8 #463 10:41AM
We stayed there in Dec 2012 with my niece and then 5yo son. We stayed in a Royal Room, and they both loved it! There are fireworks in the headboard. And, little gifts from the Princes and Princesses to Princess Tiana all over the room. We would definitely stay there again, but probably won't stay at CBR again. - mrsincredible  1380.4 #4 10:48AM
That sounds like fun! Fireworks in the headboard sounds so cool! My son would love that. I've seen pics and videos of POR and it looks wonderful. If we do decide to go moderate, I am leaning towards POR. Thanks again! - sjmommy  4.8 #463 11:01AM
Caribbean. I love the tropical atmosphere and beaches. If you request preferred, near preferred, or a building right next to the bridge, walking really isn't bad. They also have a great pool and a kids pirate ship splash area. - PixieDust76  93.4 #78 10:38AM
Thank you! I do love Caribbean and the tropical aspect. So hard to choose! - sjmommy  4.8 #463 10:46AM
I didn't care for Caribbean Beach when I stayed there on my first visit (1998). I love POFQ, but have never stayed at Riverside. I always found it to be full of loud Guests, not as peaceful as POFQ. The bus service at POFQ is better too (the two resorts share buses, but POFQ is always the first stop). - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1472.0 #3 7:04PM
We stayed at Riverside our first trip and really liked it!! The only thing that may be disappointing is the pool area if that's important to you or if you have kids. It was fine for us because we had a baby and a 3 y/o...but I think older kids would have been a little underwhelmed. - MinnieMousewife  923.5 #218 7:37PM

Oh boy...in 3 days we will be at Disney World! This is a picture of my son Gavin in 2012 riding the Disney World train for the first time (well, from what he remembers. He was actually a year old the first time, but he doesn't believe me) He is now 5. This will be our first stop when we get to Magic Kingdom :)
