Hello WDW friends from Disneyland. Staying at Grand Californian enjoying the view from my balcony. Here with my son Tanner and this California Adventure. The Grand is a beautiful hotel that reminds me of the Wilderness at WDW.

Beautiful view! Enjoy your stay.   - disneycm  801.7 #10 12:57PM

Something has been on my mind for a while but I was not sure how to tastefully ask my fellow MWers but I am dying to know: how do you find the best deals and cheapest way to be able to do Disney each year or more than once a year? I think I need more training on finding the good deals and being less picky with my resort, but it seems like a huge investment each time we book a trip and something al  More...

We stay off site every other year. If we did not we could not go every year. The years we stay on site we make sure we do the free dining and go during value season. This means pulling our kids out of school, but I've come to terms with that and I'm quite alright with it. Staying in a condo saves us thousands of dollars because we eat there, and it's probably 10% to 30% of a moderate or Deluxe resort. We also drive down and we live in the midwest so it's a 24-hour total drive (each way). It cost us about $950 to drive down and back, but flights would be around $4,000 during the times we want to go. We do buy groceries and eat in our condo with just one meal in the park per day. We also opted not to do the park hopper pass, we're not big fans, as we feel you lose time as you're transported from one park to another, and it can save you quite a bit as well. - DizneyGirl  1544.1 #5 4:09PM
Great to know! Thanks for sharing! - ariel116  107.6 #71 4:24PM
You're welcome. And if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask. I'm an open book. - DizneyGirl  1544.1 #5 4:27PM
Lol. Great question. In our younger years when our jobs were not the best we scraped and scrounged to make it happen. We have only stayed off property once and didn't like it but many do( no wrong answer here) the majority of the times we have been here we have stayed valu resort ( we are gone most of the time and only sleep or shower here) and off season. I love sept but haven't stayed in sept for a while. Crowds are lower and cost is as well. We , like dizneygirl opt not to do the park hopper as well, we just don't use it. Now if you think you may want to do more than once in a year I would check into an annual pass it saves ticket price, hotel room discount, food and merchandise. There was no such thing as the dinning plan so we took breakfast items with us to hotel and ate in the room then we took snack to parks for lunch and ate a dinner in the park and most times it was counter service now known as quick service. Now to splurge we watch for free dinning and try to book within that window. We also save change and dollars through the year and that becomes game room money for the kids, special events or souvenirs. We buy Disney gift cards from the area grocer for fuel perks and get free tanks of gas. We use the gift cards for everything disney and universal. We also have a separate checking account that we call our Christmas/vacation fund and so much every week gets transferred from our main account to it do a savings plan. Works great just 25. A week gets you 1300. We save more but that's a start. We have also bought gift cards weekly, which is good also because you can only use them in disney. Lots of great things you can do out there, even consignment. Lots of luck to you - mmddgp  1912.8 #3 5:38PM

Hello everyone! I haven't been on in a very long time, it's good to be back. I have a question I was wondering if anyone on here can help me with. My family is insisting we go to dw around Christmas, 12/27 -1/1. I have heard horrible things about going that time of year, the crowds, lines etc. Am I right, are we going to miserable waiting in lines? I'm afraid it won't be as magical. I need anyone'  More...

Hello and welcome back! During those dates you'll find the parks are at max capacity, especially Magic Kingdom. If you don't get up and to the parks bright and early you will find they will be turning guests away due to being full.ย People do go during these dates, obviously, and still have a good time. If you decide to go during these dates, pack your patience and realize you will get to see and do a lot less. For me personally, I prefer the least crowded dates. There are crowd calendars online if you Google for them, you'll find several. If I remember correctly the second week in January would be significantly less crowded. - DizneyGirl  1544.1 #5 2:09PM

Don't do it. Just don't. I probably sound negative and I truly don't mean to but what happens if/when you and your kids get turned away at the gate to Magic Kingdom because it has hit capacity? I would just avoid the heartache and go literally any other time but the weeks between Christmas and New Years. - missmimi90  2079.9 #92 3:37PM

Good Morning! Anyone have any suggestions/opinions? I'm having a hard time deciding what to do...I have 2 resorts booked for dec 8-13. One is CBR w the 75.00 gift card per night incentive and the other is Pop w free dining...just 3 of us going...which would you choose? Hmmmm...TIA for any opinions shared!

I would keep the moderate with the $75 which would probably more than cover QS food for each day. It seems like they would be about equal,  - Andrea84  754.5 #12 9:28AM

I finally got through on the phone! So I ended up switching to a pirate room (not my first choice but I'm going to pray for someone to cancel so I cvs switch back) and I ended up getting free dining plus the gift cards! Woo hoo! Hopefully the pirate rooms are ok!  Not sure my little girl is going to love the pirate room...lol - brittandkell  555.3 #423 11:18AM
My fiancรฉ and I are stuck with the pirate rooms as well. How romantic haha. But worth it in the end! Since we really only sleep there anyway. As for buses, I read mixed reviews but it seems like some people are just drama queens and the walk to the main bus station isn't too bad and from there the buses are good! I will be there in a few weeks I will let ya know! - ariel116  107.6 #71 1:53PM
I think you'll still enjoy the room. I remember the very first time we stayed on property the only way we could get these special offer was by staying at the All Star Sports. Nobody in our family, at that time, enjoyed Sports at all, not even my husband. However when we got there, everything being Larger than Life was just so cool, it did not take away from our enjoyment of our trip at all. And we still rave about staying at All Star - DizneyGirl  1544.1 #5 2:15PM
Totally don't blame you!! Pop is great!!! How frustrating to be disconnected after all that!  Now just think of all the fun you'll have on your trip!! Woo hoo!! - brittandkell  555.3 #423 8:47PM
BOTH resorts are excellent and the bus issue with CBR isn't a big deal unless it's a rainy day. Pop Century can be VERY busy and crowded and the entire resort "empties" into one set of bus stops - the lines can be long!  - Radio-Man  346.0 #27 4:07AM
