Something has been on my mind for a while but I was not sure how to tastefully ask my fellow MWers but I am dying to know: how do you find the best deals and cheapest way to be able to do Disney each year or more than once a year? I think I need more training on finding the good deals and being less picky with my resort, but it seems like a huge investment each time we book a trip and something al  More...

We stay off site every other year. If we did not we could not go every year. The years we stay on site we make sure we do the free dining and go during value season. This means pulling our kids out of school, but I've come to terms with that and I'm quite alright with it. Staying in a condo saves us thousands of dollars because we eat there, and it's probably 10% to 30% of a moderate or Deluxe resort. We also drive down and we live in the midwest so it's a 24-hour total drive (each way). It cost us about $950 to drive down and back, but flights would be around $4,000 during the times we want to go. We do buy groceries and eat in our condo with just one meal in the park per day. We also opted not to do the park hopper pass, we're not big fans, as we feel you lose time as you're transported from one park to another, and it can save you quite a bit as well. - DizneyGirl  1545.7 #5 4:09PM
Great to know! Thanks for sharing! - ariel116  108.0 #71 4:24PM
You're welcome. And if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask. I'm an open book. - DizneyGirl  1545.7 #5 4:27PM
Lol. Great question. In our younger years when our jobs were not the best we scraped and scrounged to make it happen. We have only stayed off property once and didn't like it but many do( no wrong answer here) the majority of the times we have been here we have stayed valu resort ( we are gone most of the time and only sleep or shower here) and off season. I love sept but haven't stayed in sept for a while. Crowds are lower and cost is as well. We , like dizneygirl opt not to do the park hopper as well, we just don't use it. Now if you think you may want to do more than once in a year I would check into an annual pass it saves ticket price, hotel room discount, food and merchandise. There was no such thing as the dinning plan so we took breakfast items with us to hotel and ate in the room then we took snack to parks for lunch and ate a dinner in the park and most times it was counter service now known as quick service. Now to splurge we watch for free dinning and try to book within that window. We also save change and dollars through the year and that becomes game room money for the kids, special events or souvenirs. We buy Disney gift cards from the area grocer for fuel perks and get free tanks of gas. We use the gift cards for everything disney and universal. We also have a separate checking account that we call our Christmas/vacation fund and so much every week gets transferred from our main account to it do a savings plan. Works great just 25. A week gets you 1300. We save more but that's a start. We have also bought gift cards weekly, which is good also because you can only use them in disney. Lots of great things you can do out there, even consignment. Lots of luck to you - mmddgp  1914.3 #3 5:38PM
Wow thank you so much that helps a lot!! - ariel116  108.0 #71 6:38PM
Your welcome. Like diz said we love to help, ask away - mmddgp  1914.3 #3 7:43PM
No way around it, Disney is expensive. There are so many hotels nearby. That's how I save. I stayed at a Value resort once, but don't see the need to do it again. Yes, staying at the Grand Floridian would be amazing, but I would never pay those prices. You can always visit it for free. I pick my splurges for the trip and scrimp elsewhere. Since I have to fly, I always check on Orbitz about making it a "package". Sometimes the hotels are super cheap that way.  - JenGwen323  2237.7 #86 11:41PM
As Platinum Annual passholders in Florida, we pay installments every month which makes it more managable. Since the trips we plan already have the tickets "covered", that's one major expense already taken care of. That helps alot! Of course, with my older son in college, we can't go on as many Disney trips as we used to!  - Radio-Man  346.2 #27 12:00AM

Hello WDW friends from Disneyland. Staying at Grand Californian enjoying the view from my balcony. Here with my son Tanner and this California Adventure. The Grand is a beautiful hotel that reminds me of the Wilderness at WDW.

Hello everyone! I haven't been on in a very long time, it's good to be back. I have a question I was wondering if anyone on here can help me with. My family is insisting we go to dw around Christmas, 12/27 -1/1. I have heard horrible things about going that time of year, the crowds, lines etc. Am I right, are we going to miserable waiting in lines? I'm afraid it won't be as magical. I need anyone'  More...

Hello and welcome back! During those dates you'll find the parks are at max capacity, especially Magic Kingdom. If you don't get up and to the parks bright and early you will find they will be turning guests away due to being full. People do go during these dates, obviously, and still have a good time. If you decide to go during these dates, pack your patience and realize you will get to see and do a lot less. For me personally, I prefer the least crowded dates. There are crowd calendars online if you Google for them, you'll find several. If I remember correctly the second week in January would be significantly less crowded. - DizneyGirl  1545.7 #5 2:09PM
We will be traveling with 3 boys and a little girl, ages 6,7,8 and 9. - sjmommy  5.1 #436 2:01PM
We are going the week after Thanksgiving, I've heard that week isn't bad with crowds. This does mean I have to take my kids out of school but sometimes great family memories are worth it. My hubby doesn't do large crowds he is not a patient man lol. - txdisneymomma  163.1 #59 6:41PM
That should be an awesome week! I agree with the school thing. I used to really worry about it, then the last few years decided I don't care. It's just a few days and not everyone can go during the summer. - DizneyGirl  1545.7 #5 6:43PM
I'm a teacher. This is my favorite time to go. Not only do I have to take myself out, but also my daughter. I have good substitutes and I put my daughter on a study contract this way the school does get the money. It really is a good time of the year and all the Holiday stuff is up.  - DznylndFamily  46.1 #119 9:25PM
I've gone this during week, but it was a few years back. If it had been my first time, I would have never gone back. Unbelievable crowds, a bunch of drunk people, unbelievable lines at the busses, and very tired and frustrated cast members. We like the week after Thanksgiving or the 2 weeks after New Years.  - DznylndFamily  46.1 #119 9:30PM

Kind of bummed. My house has not sold and now family may not got to Disney with us. The sale of the house would have paid for my parents and foster brother to come. My 3 siblings and their family have not said they are canceling. Wait and see approach now.

I bought house for my parents in New York before I moved to pa.  They wa t to move to ga. So based on me selling the home (they get the money as I promised them the house as a thank you for giving up their land and home in Jamaica) so not selling the house means no money.  They will come another time once it sells.  Gods willing.  Going July 29-aug 13  - 5disneylovers  1278.9 #9 3:40PM
