Did anyone see the post on allears? That talks about the trial of putting codes on bottom of reusable mugs to limit them to two weeks. And same code on paper cups to limit to one hour of use and three refills in that hour.
Disney did a test run at Sports this past July. I read about it on the Disney Foid Blog. Looks like it's going to he at all the resorts at some point. With the refillable mugs they will be coded for the length of your stay. With the paper cups they will be good for about an hour just long enough for a meal. And the soda machines are going to be fixed so that you can only refill your cup every 5 minutes instead of a continual stream of soda. Check out disneyfoodblog.com. They have the whole story. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 9:01PM
There has been some talk about this for a while. I heard it's on a trial period at one of the All Stars. Anybody know any inside scoop on this? - Jalex239  379.8 #7 9:03PM
I get and agree with putting the dates on the mugs for the length of your stay, but if I get a drink that has free refills and I want to have four drinks in an hour then Iam going to ( not that I could anyway) - toogrumpy  101.5 #47 9:11PM
What happens if you get the mug and your vacation is longer then two wks? Not that I'm that lucky to stay that long but some people do. I'd hate to be told to buy a mug they are expensive. - Schramke  314.1 #14 9:17PM
The resorts used to encourage you to bring your mugs back to the resorts on other trips. They figured out that they were losing money on new mug sales so this will probably be the future of the mugs. I bought a new one this summer and with tax it came to $15. That's the most expensive cup I've ever bought. Now imagine a family of 4 getting mugs...that's $60 even before leaving the resort....every year. I can understand why they are doing it but I don't have to like it. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 9:19PM
Schramke makes a great point. It is reasonable for the mug refils to expire @midnight on the night of your departure, however long that may be. After all, isn't that the point of refillable mugs during your stay? - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  394.9 #6 9:20PM
@Schramke...the barcode will expire and the soda machines won't work for your cup. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 9:20PM
@College...that is correct. Barcode will expire at midnight on the day you check out of the resort. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 9:22PM
They are really cutting edge on ideas. I know a lot of people think the cost of things are spendy but for what they are giving you it's worth it. There are a lot of people will take take take just because it's free, not because they really want it. My mom is the type to fill her purse full of creamers and they never use them and they get tossed out. Just because it's free. If something like that can keep the parks going and they are fair about it then it's not a bad idea. - cheekymouse  34.9 #91 9:28PM
@cheeky...I agree. Time for the takers to be cut off. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 9:33PM
I live in Seattle and ( I don't drink coffe never had but don't let anyone in Seattle know I may get beat up) I went to buy that bucks cup that is clear and you can reuse and holy cow it was 18$ on sale empty never any refills. So it could be worse. - cheekymouse  34.9 #91 9:37PM
I can see the mugs expiring on the day you leave. I have seen many ancient mugs in use on my stay. I never thought that was even allowed.@tinkerbell1265 thanks ill check our thw blog. - Bakerjars  220.1 #22 9:37PM
@cheeky...lol! I won't tell. I don't drink coffee either...ever. Tea is my drink. No soda or any carbonated drinks. Yeah, the specialty mugs can kill your wallet real quick. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 10:17PM
@Baker...the blog is really informative. - Tinkerbell1265  372.1 #8 10:18PM
According to the article if your stay is longer than two weeks, you'll get another mug with a new chip after the first expires. Sounds like a waste. - Disneydad42  5.6 #322 11:34PM
So if I'm at the parks the majority of the time can I pay an extra $5 or $10 for a park hopper mug? So I can use it not just at the resorts! To me then it would be worth it. Just sayin - mbgl12  23.4 #119 2:03AM
