I have a question. Indy and Michael - Every time we have a sit down meal, my family freaks out over the tips. I understand that it adds up and it's though to keep paying out tips but as a former waitress I know that they also have to tip share. In WA, servers get minimum wage plus tips. When I searved in Florida and in PA it was less than minimum, around 2.13 an hour, so we strongly depended on our tips. My question is does Disney pay servers less and make them depend on there tips and do they have to tip share? I want to put this dispute to rest. Thanks.
Oh this is a touchy subject.... As a server myself, my income is made up an hourly wage and tips and gratuities. Disney pays more than most restaurants but it still is under min wage. Many locations have to share/pool their tips. I am blessed with my role at the Biergarten and I do very well. But PLEASE, if you are goIng to eat at a sit down restaurant, which includes buffets, at WDW, a tip of 18-20% is customary. If you are not one to tip, consider eating at a quick service location. - UppityEmpress  783.8 #2 8:49AM
Thank you, Michael. I am a tipper. My family is to, they just don't understand as well as I do, being a former waitress. Hugs! :) - PixieDust76  73.7 #59 9:02AM
I was a waitress in younger days and so we always tip well, especially for great service. I never knew there was such a thing as tip sharing. Thanks for the explanation, Micheal. - ally  440.3 #4 9:34AM
I am lucky since we don't have to share/pool our tips at the biergarten. - UppityEmpress  783.8 #2 12:41PM
Wow UppityEmpress I and most people probably have no idea there is a less than min. wage for tipped employees in FL. CA has the same min. of 8$ regardless. Thanks for enlightening us. Are people at WDW usually generous? - Westcoast  61.5 #3546 5:02PM
Know the feeling. I use to serve and I got 2.83 plus tips. I had to get another job I could not live on that. So whenever I eat out anywhere not just Disney I always think of what it was like when I was a server and tip.  - Schramke  313.8 #14 5:13PM
Just bought the tiw card, used it on last trip. Love the discount & the fact they add the tip in for you. - magicfan2301  48.0 #70 5:15PM
Can you please explain what card your talking about? - Schramke  313.8 #14 5:17PM
I've been known to tip up to 50% of the bill, because I believe of you receive good service, then that person should receive something good in return. Waiters work very hard to service us as customers, so they deserve a decent amount in return. This is my opinion only. - cyniminnie  48.3 #69 5:42PM
@schramke it's called tables in wonderland & it's takes 20% off your bill up to 10 in a party. Sad part I think you have to be a fl resident or ap holder.http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneydiningexperience.htm - magicfan2301  48.0 #70 5:53PM
I agree tip your servers at least 20% or don't go out to eat! I get it in Europe they don't really tip but they put it in like 20 languages in the bill book so no excuse! - jl42nato  19.3 #126 12:44PM
I just want everyone to understand that I am all for tipping. I actually had a huge argument with my family trying to defend Disney servers. It was awful. That is what I meant by putting the dispute to an end. I was a server once and I know how bad it is to not get enough tips to live off of. - PixieDust76  73.7 #59 1:27PM
Great question. - Butterlina  1307.8 #62 3:49PM
I always tip at least 15, but I believe in tipping on service not obligation. If service is good, you get a good tip. Service is so so and it's due to the server, 15% only. I do believer there is a level of earning the tip. Not usually an issue with Disney - timonT  208.0 #23 5:56PM
