Sep 2, 2013 6:40 PM  WDW Talk Land
With all this talk of Disney races and bling, I am completely inspired. Thinking Nov 2014 Wine and Dine half will be my inaugural race!! And, who knows, maybe Coast to Coast halves in Jan/Feb 2015!! For any of you experienced runners, I welcome any advice for just starting out!

Very exciting! I may do the Wine & Dine again in 2014 for my C2C. But, I want to get through 2013's race before I decide. This weekend I had one friend complete the DDD and another (Mzdisnee) complete her first Half. This combined with a good 11 mile run of my own has left me so excited for November! I now know I will be ready! Before I decided to register, I started incorporating some running (30 sec to 1 min at a time) into my walking routine, just to see if I could do it. Then, I decided to start Jeff Galloway's training program early, essentially doubling it. I complete every long run twice before upping the mileage. My second attempts have been noticeably easier! It is still hard, but I get through it and recover quickly. Stick to the training program, running three times a week (at least), because it works! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 8:18PM
That's awesome!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 3:10AM
I would love a Coast to Coast, but I'm with you... let's see if I can get thru the first one first!! ๐Ÿ˜œ - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 3:12AM
You are really training well! You'll definitely be ready! - goofygal  11658.9 #7 5:40AM
I have found it very important to come up with a training schedule and stick with it! I especially like that Galloway's plan only calls for 3 days a week. That's doable! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 5:54AM
I'm thinking mine will be a half marathon at wdw. Not sure when though but one of these days I want to do it - TinkTinkTink  264.9 #34 6:42PM
I'd love to be able to run. Maybe a 5k, someday. - DizneyGirl  968.0 #8 6:49PM
I would love to do some kind of Disney run!! I did a 5K a little over a year ago and loved it! My friends and I ran most of it and we had so much fun. Then, I hurt my knee and stopped running. Just recently I started walking/jogging again. Even more recently, I started using a couch to 5k app on my phone. I like using it because it helps motivate me to keep running and also it's a great feeling when you complete a day and get to move on to the next one. You might want to check it out! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ - BagGal  345.2 #25 9:54PM
I'll check it out!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 3:10AM
Your knee injury reminds me of the importance of getting fitted for running shoes! I've had aches and pains that may last a few days, but no real injuries (knock on wood)! I think the run-walk-run method helps too! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 4:30AM
I like the run-walk-run method too. I realized with my knee that I have to concentrate on putting my foot all the way down. I was running normal with one foot and landing only on my tiptoe on the foot/leg with knee pain. How often do you buy new running shoes? Mine are about a year old. - BagGal  345.2 #25 6:16AM
They say you should replace your running shoes every 500 miles, although I can't imagine keeping track! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 11:54AM
Most people can 'feel' when they need to change their shoes. Be sure to do it, my hubby has plantar fasciitis because he didn't change his shoes out on time and has had horrific pain in his feet and gone to many doctors, it's finally getting better after almost a year! - DizneyGirl  968.0 #8 12:13PM
Mr I has the SAME thing!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 4:38PM
He needs new shoes and some good shoe inserts. My hubby had to go to more than one doc to get the help he needed. My hubby had a lot of trouble while at Disney, especially on long days. - DizneyGirl  968.0 #8 5:49PM
Yeah, my shoes felt different this morning and I got a blister. I've never gotten a blister and I've had these running shoes for a year. Might be time to go shopping! :) - BagGal  345.2 #25 6:11PM
Haha! Keeping track! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ - BagGal  345.2 #25 6:13PM
No pun intended. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 6:15PM
Diz, he sees the foot doc alot... has the inserts, special shoes and gets cortisone (sp?) shots on his heel. Some mornings it hurts him to even stand to get out of bed. ๐Ÿ˜ข - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 1:15AM
Mine has issues at Disney, too. - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 1:16AM
Wow thats awesome! Good for you!! - samndawn67  21.8 #164 4:47AM
Do it, you'll love it. No matter what distance you choose it is still a lot of fun. - jacdanfan  12150.4 #6 5:19AM
It's definitely worth it! You should do it! - goofygal  11658.9 #7 5:41AM
If love to do it; but my knees say "NO" :( - MsMode  30.8 #138 5:44AM
Yea mine too! - Pooh147856  381.8 #23 5:45PM
OK, so I have been reading everything on runDisney I can get my hands on, and have to ask this question. A certain pace is required, and those who fall behind are escorted to the finish line. Do they still get a medal? Cuz, my luck that would be me!! You know, Murphy's law and everything, haha!! ๐Ÿ˜œ - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 4:40PM
No they do not. So here is the honest truth...the 3.5 hours u must finish in calculated from the last runner to cross the start line. You could be any where from 5-30 minutes ahead of them. Your time does not start till you cross the start line. There were people at the race well over 300 lbs and walked the whole thing. You can easily walk it at a brisk pace and finish. - mzdisnee  568.7 #15 4:56PM
Walking at 3.75 on a treadmill is a 16 min mile pace. - mzdisnee  568.7 #15 4:57PM
I have heard they do..but I cannot confirm this. I was going to mention, there are a lot of runDisney blogs full of info and race recaps! Some that I follow include: runningatdisney.com, eatsleeprundisney.com (check out her Disney Running 101!), throughheatherslookingglass.com, and fit2flex.com (you may recognize Carissa from runDisney's Wine and Dine page!) - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 4:59PM
OK, thank goodness they allow some walking!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 5:06PM
Thank you for those sites!! I will definitely check them out!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 5:11PM
See you in 2014 we just need to pick the dates when the post them. I guess we will need names later on too like the fairies. Lol - 5disneylovers  1160.7 #6 8:05PM
2014 Wine and Dine Half Marathon weekend is scheduled for Nov 7-9! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 8:07PM
Can you sign up already - 5disneylovers  1160.7 #6 8:08PM
No, registration for the 2013 race opened in March. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 8:26PM
5DL, lets do it!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 1:13AM
Well I was trying to plan a girls trip for nov 2014. Maybe I should sign up to run too. I have always wanted to but have been too chicken. If we all plan. We can encourage each other. And have our own MW running team. - PracticallyPerfectLisa  122.9 #3220 9:25PM
I agree!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 1:13AM
So lets do this. I will read up on Jeff Galloway training plan today. - PracticallyPerfectLisa  122.9 #3220 6:12AM
I'm scared... but I want to, too!! Let's DO THIS!! - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 7:45AM
Just bought Jeff Galloway's book "Running - Getting Started", and signed up for his newsletters. - mrsincredible  1317.8 #4 8:48AM
The map my run app is great for keeping track of your mileage. I use it daily. Very easy and free. - junglekruizer  4.5 #500 10:36AM
RunKeeper is a great one too! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 10:58AM
Best luck to you , jay and I have slowly been training , we won't be able to join you for the wine and dine , we are going for the TOT 10 miler weekend, only dates that will work for us, I know you will do great:) - tracsant  1502.7 #2 11:49AM
The ToT 10 Miler looks like a lot of fun! The EE Challenge looks like fun to! But, neither qualifies for C2C. ๐Ÿ˜” - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1450.4 #3 2:08PM
That's too bad, C2C is not really something we could do , DL is just too far and can only be a once in a while thing also we a BIG trip planned for that spring so this one just makes sense plus it's TOT , doesn't get much cooler than that - tracsant  1502.7 #2 2:17PM
I will be running the TOT one in October!! I'm very excited - allieenicolee  16.1 #194 9:20PM
W&D is my favorite 1/2! You can do it! We did out first C2C last year (2013). The plan for 2014 is to do it again. Tink will be my SO's first 1/2 then we will get him the C2C the same year. The Galloway training is good "easy" training for any run. :) - Shunasee  182.6 #2263 7:48AM

MouseWait COUNTDOWN for iOS is here! Countdown the days to your next Disneyland or Disney World trip with our images OR your pics! Your Countdown also displays on Apple Watch and is beautiful on iPhone 6 screens. Secure the discounted launch price for a limited time.

So from the looks of it, there is not even one app made for those of us on android. You know there are millions of people who do not own iPhones. Its kind of rediculous these days not to offer an android version of apps. Would love to help this site grow by donating, but I see no point in that when there appears to be no intrest by the app builders here to support android. I mean how about atleast a partialy functional app so we can feel that theย android users are even wanted as a part of the mousewait community.ย I see lots of requests and sad posts about no android, but dont see any replys by the site to the fact that anyone is even working on it.I've checked back here every so offten to see if there is anything for android users, but never bothered joining until today.I just wanted to rant a little, and now I am done.Unfortunalty, at this point I think I am officaily giving up on mousewait.ย Thanks for reading ย and understanding my frustrations ( i hope ) and please everyone........Have a Disney-tastic day!Mark - molney14u  0.1 #105863 11:05AM
I have an iPhone and an old droid. I use the old droid for wait times when my iPhone can't connect and it works fine. There's so many droid phones to have  separate apps for but I hope android makers would start using the basic same code and security but I'm probably wishing on a star for that . I miss my droid but a lot of apps don't work the same.  - secretagentangel  6438.9 #20 8:10PM
