Jun 10, 2013 5:41 PM  WDW Talk Land
Hi everyone! First time posting here on the WDW side but just found out I may be going to WDW next year! What sites does everyone use for tips, ideas, and so on? I'll probably be the one planning the whole thing for my family so I am a bit nervous about it. Also, is April/May a good time to go, crowd and weather wise? Thanks for any help you all can give!!

Hi and welcome , MW wdw is a great place to get tips advice ideas ect. Feel free to ask away , I've been both in April and may and it can be quite busy , the weather this may was a bit rainy and warm , will you be staying on property ? They have lots of great resorts for all types of budgets plus you can take advantage of extra magic hrs and the magical express . Dining reservations are must , most places book up pretty quickly , but you have lots of choices . I'm sure you will love it , have fun planning and whatever questions you have I'm sure someone on here can answer:) - tracsant  1599.6 #5 5:50PM
Right now we are looking at going the first week of May (this is still something we can change) and we do plan to stay onsite. Hopefully something $200 or less a night (I'm think AoA would be cool). Honestly any and all tips you think a first timer would need I will greatly appreciate! I'm so excited but I know it can be a stressful process from some sites I have read. - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 5:55PM
AoA, Pop Century, or maybe even one if the moderate resorts (my fav is POFQ) would fit your budget! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1479.6 #6 5:59PM
Which of those would be best if our main priorities are Magic Kingdom and EPCOT? We plan to do all of the parks but those are our "must do no matter what". - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:02PM
Magic kingdom is like DL...well just little extra since now with new fantasyland...I would say Epcot spend a little more time...Hollywood studios is a little like DCA minus Carsland lol - islandgirl58  536.0 #18 6:09PM
Unfortunately the resorts closest to MK and Epcot are all deluxe resorts. Don't forget AK, it's amazing! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1479.6 #6 6:16PM
WDW is a huge property , so many resorts are not exactly right near a park , but AOA and pop are not to far from either park , I always rent a car so I couldn't tell ya how long the bus takes to get to the parks from those resorts , AOA is really very cool and has one of the best food courts , if I had to pick I would def choose AOA , don't get stressed , remember it's a huge place and can be overwhelming ,it's almost impossible to do everything your first visit, look into each park or ask on here each day on each park about the must dos and dining put a list on what you think you'd like to do the most and take it from there , believe me if there is one thing we love is talking disney - tracsant  1599.6 #5 6:20PM
Thanks @tracsant! Out of curiosity, how much is a rental car down there? I have a pretty good list of what I want to do (been dreaming of WDW since I first learned it existed as a kid) maybe I should make up a list and link it here at some point to get some help with how to plan things out. - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:23PM
We usually use dollar car rental , it's right in the airport and usually have some pretty good deals, always check out their city specials but depending on how long we go for most of the time it's under 200 , we always budget for it, we like having the freedom , we too like to go to universal as well as other off property places , I like just getting in my car and going at my own time frame , I completely understand how as a first time goer you get a bit overwhelmed but once you get there it all falls together - tracsant  1599.6 #5 6:28PM
Is it your first trip? - amandapanda3  39.3 #130 5:43PM
First WDW trip! I'm used to DLR(been going since I was a baby). - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 5:44PM
Great weather , just don't go during spring break !!!!!! - skcanfield  595.0 #14 5:45PM
So true! I went for my bday Apr 2 and it was CA-RAZY crowded!! - mrsincredible  1442.4 #7 5:46PM
Yup agree...is like DL don't go during summer and spring... - islandgirl58  536.0 #18 5:50PM
Hmm MrsI I'm starting to see a trend here every trip you make , tell us now , do you bring the cray cray? 😜 - tracsant  1599.6 #5 5:51PM
What time frame do you suggest we avoid? Spring break is typically early April, yes? - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 5:55PM
I admit... the cray cray tends to follow me around!! 😜 - mrsincredible  1442.4 #7 5:56PM
You should be good early to mid-May if you had to pick a date in Apr-May. - mrsincredible  1442.4 #7 5:57PM
Spring break season is generally mid-March thru mid-April. Easter is late next year, so the later you go the better. That is also Flower and Garden season! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1479.6 #6 5:58PM
Flower and Garden? I don't know much about that but my mom would LOVE that!! - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:06PM
Flower and garden is at Epcot , they make elaborate topiary scenes with lots of characters , have different hosts and personalitys from hgtv , sell merchandise , it's really very lovely - tracsant  1599.6 #5 6:12PM
That is totally something my mom would love!! Sounds awesome. Hope it works out that we can go during that!! - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:15PM
Welcome to the FLip side! Plan on spending at least a full week (more if you can) and I like the flexibility of Hopper passes. There a lots of great resorts on property to fit any budget. Just let us know what your considering, and we'll be happy to recommend our favorites! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1479.6 #6 5:56PM
We're thinking arrive on a Sunday, leave the following Monday and try and do Universal one day. Does that sound reasonable? I think our two travel days would be good for checking out a resort or two or maybe DTD. - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:03PM
Universal has 2 parks...one day might be enough depending on how crowded... - islandgirl58  536.0 #18 6:11PM
I like to schedule my resort hopping around my park schedule. The Contemporary, Poly, and Grand Floridian are all by MK. The Boardwalk, Beach and Yacht Clubs are all at Epcot's back door. Oh, and don't forget a special trip to AKL! It's something to see and home to my favorite restaurant, Boma. I don't think anyone mentioned dining ressies at 180 days are a must for many popular restaurants. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1479.6 #6 6:20PM
I think early May is probably your best bet for crowds and temps, based on my experience. Mid May you run into Star Wars Weekends and April seems to run into spring breaks. - ally  509.0 #19 6:25PM
Sounds perfect to me!! - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:37PM
We had been DL people until this year! We've been to WDW 3 times since jan! You will LOVE MW FL and WDW!! Epcot is AMAZING!! We love pop century! The only thing to note is they have double beds instead of queen! Also WDW is different tha DL in that you have to pretty much make reservations for dining...it's not like DL where there are a lot of quick service and really only a few w reservations! Places we like are sci fi dine in and 50's prime time cafe at HS, teppan edo at Epcot and crystal palace at MK. Also...I had more fun when I stopped trying to compare WDW And DL and just appreciated each for what they are. Happy planning and I hope you have a magical time!! - brittandkell  558.1 #439 6:27PM
I plan to view DL and WDW as two separate things. I have family who are used to WDW and when they visited out here they didn't like it because they spent the whole trip comparing it to WDW. - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:38PM
I didn't like WDW the first time I visited either. If you can can stop yourself from comparing the two (its harder than it sounds!) you'll be fine! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1479.6 #6 6:51PM
I don't think I'll have a problem keeping DLR and WDW separate but who knows. I'm sure many say that. - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 7:06PM
Usually in May, they have a sale of about 30% off moderate and value rooms that would easily fit in your budget. - ally  509.0 #19 6:27PM
Ooh 30% off would be lovely. Do you know what premier ap discounts would be? I'm considering upgrading to that for our trip to use the discount for food and merchandise. - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 6:39PM
Check out Dollar rent a car. I find they have the best rates. We always use it. - bearlove  158.4 #2766 6:27PM
I highly recommend www.allears.net to help plan. If you don't make dining reservations you won't get in to many restaurants. One thing to consider is looking into what rides will be under refurbishment and when. You'd hate to plan a trip and get there to find somethingyou wanted to see or do was not available. It sounds like your ddates are flexible, so I'd check into that. - DizneyGirl  1618.6 #4 7:51PM
Do you know how far in advance WDW puts up the refurb list? - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 8:00PM
I'd say you can check about 6 months out and be fairly safe, but they are known for changing the dates and specifically taking longer than planned. Indy might know better than I do. I also keep an up to date list on my website. It's not near as detailed as allears though. - DizneyGirl  1618.6 #4 8:05PM
dizneygirl70.wix.com/dizneygirl (no mobile version currently available) - DizneyGirl  1618.6 #4 8:08PM
Thanks!! I use all ears quite a bit for menus so I am fairly familiar with the site. I'll be sure to check out all of what they have. :) - PiecesOf8  610.8 #395 11:50PM
