my husband and I are going to WDW in Dec. first week 1st through 8th.of Dec we are thinking of spending one day at Universal. first question is one day long enough if we do express pass. Second question is taxi best way to get over there or is mears?

Mears will be less expensive than a taxi, but realize it will be a lot more time consuming! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1030.1 #3 8:50AM
Agree it was more affordable, but we spent A LOT of time on the bus traveling. - DisneyLisa78  44.0 #107 12:21PM
Very true... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 3:31PM
You could probably rent a car for one day and have it be cheaper then a cab, I'd look in to it! I have a car reserved for 15 days at 12 dollars a day, total I think is 340 for the entire time. - allieenicolee  16.1 #179 10:40AM
Is that with insurance? - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 10:49AM
You shouldn't need insurance. In Iowa auto insurance standard is it will cover any rental. Many rental companies bamboozle you into paying for insurance you don't need. I'm sure some states don't have this as a standard, but most do, so ask your insurance agent before spending the extra $$. - DizneyGirl  720.7 #7 11:49AM
It's without insurence but we are covered from out insurence here, also we're covered through our credit card! - allieenicolee  16.1 #179 4:07PM
I agree...but using your own insurance is both good, and bad... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 7:27AM
Meant could be - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 7:30AM
Then you also have to pay for parking. - Westcoast  136.1 #2846 7:41AM
We usually go with mears...no problems with them so far... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 10:48AM
We usually go 2 days so we don't need to rush around...the park with Harry potter might take one whole day to enjoy everything...we also get the express pass... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 10:58AM
1 day is plenty , it's not Disney !!!! I would use Mears over a cab !!! - skcanfield  494.7 #16 11:00AM
Thanks to everyone - Texas1112  7.6 #284 11:17AM
Haha we are doing the same thing. I priced a cab and it was like 45 bucks. - Lelundrial  560.0 #331 11:48AM
Try mears... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 3:25PM
I am, just going to call closer to our trip. - Lelundrial  560.0 #331 4:36PM
I'm not sure at other resorts, but dolphin has a mears desk in lobby...so we usually book a day or 2 before we visit Universal... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 6:28PM
Ouch! Is that each way? - DizneyGirl  720.7 #7 7:29PM
Yep, would be about $90 round trip. We are staying at the Caribbean Beach resort. I used them last year since we staying at a hotel near the convention center there. I was looking at their website and I am going to call the hotel. The website is saying $54 one way, and it was a sedan not the van. - Lelundrial  560.0 #331 7:33AM
We do universal for two days just because you don't know how busy it is going to be. Now to get there we have done it many ways, if it is just the two of us my favorite is mears. Now we stay at pops and I think that is the last stop before they get on I-4 so that is good. Depending on whether anyone is going to sea world that would be the next stop but it is quick and then off to universal. We do the reservations for this right at the concerge desk in the hotel. We usually get the 830 pick up time and we call when we are ready to come back. Need to call two hours in advance. It is 19.00 round trip per person. When we go with the 8-10 of us we book a van/taxi service and we have used the same one for years and it is 40. One way. We love the convience of the pick up and drop off siteand i think it is less time them picking up the rental car. Unless we are going to use a car for 3 or more days we don't bother. Hope this helps. Enjoy! - mmddgp  590.6 #10 2:42AM
One day won't be enough. Not with Harry Potter and Transformers - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #1 5:26AM
Being a HUGE HP fan, I wasn't that impressed =( - CinderellaPrincess85  194.6 #42 6:09AM
I have heard they are planning to expand that area (?) - mrsincredible  997.3 #4 6:33AM
Ya I was also a very big HP fan and I personally HATE HATE HATE universal studios. I think its dirty and very close together - klperry07  11.9 #216 8:58AM
I enjoyed Universal...last trip back in October it seem cleaner...we might do this 1 day this trip since we just went last year...husband got in free last year military... - islandgirl58  315.1 #22 7:25AM
Loved HP. It's an area and not some huge place you can spend the day in, but if you're a fan it's likely you'll enjoy it. Go there first. I went when it wasn't crowded so that probably made a big difference, but Olivander's is almost always difficult to get into due to size. We totaled 2 people so it made sense to take Mears. - Westcoast  136.1 #2846 7:53AM
Thanks for the advise. Hope everyone has a great day - Texas1112  7.6 #284 6:41AM
Sorry I missed your express pass question. There are two different express passes. One is good at only one park, and you can only use it once per ride. The other is good at both parks but cannot be used for the HP ride and pterandon flyers. When we were there in August I saw very few people using them. So it is good and would help you get on more rides in one day. Also, avoid taking a bag if you can. You have to lock up your bags before getting on the HP ride and Men in Black. Although Is till can't figure out why on the MIB ride you have to. It doesn't flip or anything. - Lelundrial  560.0 #331 8:14AM
There are actually 2 different parks so if you're just going to 1 then I'd say 1 day is enough. Going to both would mean skipping lots of attractions or really powering through from open to close and that's not likely. - Westcoast  136.1 #2846 7:47AM
I recommend Islands of Adventure park over the Universal park. Universal is just a lot of shopping. IOA has quite a bit and a day was plenty for us - ariel116  99.3 #66 1:16PM
Thought we would go over to Universal and than I can say I have been - Texas1112  7.6 #284 6:00PM
Lol sounds good, shopping is fun - ariel116  99.3 #66 6:02PM
Love universal as much as islands. There is definatley more than shopping there. - mmddgp  590.6 #10 6:20PM

There are 100's of people standing at bag check. Lines backed up to La Brea Bakery. They've stopped people here to herd over people already in DCA over to DL. And, we see 100's of those folks standing at the gates.  - thompsonsyl  5.2 #16685 2:36AM
