I'm thankful for my upcoming WDW trip AND for my MW family! I won't bore you, but my MIL is driving me crazy! When I married I actually got 2 MIL (one step), I'm also thankful only 1 is . . . .ugh! If you could take extended family to WDW with you, would you?

We are taking Mr I's parents and nephew (he lives with them) in June. They have never flown anywhere, let alone been to Disney. She just had knee replacement surgery, so we are renting a motorized scooter for her and upgraded to joining handicap accessible rooms so that she can pull it in and park it overnight. They have already been asking a lot of questions on how to pack, as this is literally their first big vacay trip. It should be an experience for sure! - mrsincredible  768.8 #6 2:14PM
Pros and Cons with inviting them along, but it will be fun to experience Disney thru first-timers' eyes (including our youngest, Jake), and Grandma will be a big help with him as well. The trip is a gift from us, so one of the cons of having a party of 8 is the cost. We will likely just stick with the 5 of us (4 very soon once Josh moves out) for future trips, and upgrade to my beloved AKL and Poly which I have never been able to experience as an actual guest outside of dining ressies. - mrsincredible  768.8 #6 2:21PM
Only the ones who LOVE Disney would be allowed to go! I would share my grand daughters WDW experience with their other grandmother but she ( sweet lady) said that she sees the girls more often than I do so Disney is "Lala's time" - lala03  67.5 #77 2:20PM
Nice! I agree, only fellow Disney lovers allowed after our June trip. Haha! We may take our niece again in the future, but other than that, I think we'll just stick to our immediate family. - mrsincredible  768.8 #6 2:24PM
Nice! - DizneyGirl  546.4 #9 2:42PM
Nice not selfish just perfect. - 5disneylovers  773.9 #5 9:24AM
We have gone the past 2 yrs w/EXP626s folks & I love it!!! I truly have the BEST inlaws ever. We will be going in Oct with them, my SIL & nephew that turned 2 today. My family "really don't get it".....so it's nice to vacay with fellow Disney lovers. - Maleficent69  116.6 #57 2:39PM
Lucky you! We took my parents in 2009, but they don't LOVE Disney, so wouldn't ask them again for a while! NEVER take the in-laws, but they wouldn't go anyway, LOL! Their loss NOT mine! - DizneyGirl  546.4 #9 2:42PM
My first trip was with my husbands brother his family and my mil, hubby wasnt hubby yet also wasnt able to go but I had fun. I became te Disney but out if them all. Our next two trips was just us and our daughter. Our future trip is with my brother and his family. I can't wait my sil really likes Disney too so I think it will be fun. I wish my mom or mil was up for going just because I loved vacations with my grandmas as a kid I think then being there would be special for my kids. But my mom is more into island vacations and too much walking for mil. Hope you have a great time on your upcoming trip. - txdisneymomma  79.1 #68 2:44PM
I loved going with my mom and step dad. That was a great experience!! But I'll never go with my dad he likes the thrill rides but thinks Disney is just another park mainly for kids. As for my in-laws I could not do it. It would be asking for bad Disney memories. They don't like me. So for us it's either going to be the two of us or with friends who love Disney and appreciate the magic. - Schramke  410.8 #15 2:52PM
I hate to sound nasty, but....NO! I went on an extended family vacation ONCE....NEVER AGAIN! It was a nightmare...but that is me...I like to do things alone...that is the type of person I am. I don't want to feel like I am doing something someone else doesn't want to do, and vice versa. Anyway...I know it is a wonderful experience for some people, and its your choice, but I DO NOT recommend it. - ncjal  201.8 #33 3:12PM
My mom always comes with us have only been to wdw once on honeymoon without her. Our last five trips have been my mom, aunt and two of our closes friends, who are more like family. One of those was with the MIL but we wont talk about that one. - Bakerjars  237.5 #28 3:51PM
No one in my family like Disney, I am the only Disney lover besides my sister, but everyone else still can't believe how much money I spent and that it's my dream come true, and my husband and mother don't believe that I can save money to go again after this trip! Oh well, their loss. They can be miserable always,lol...so no in laws for me! - DisneyVicki  23.6 #137 4:01PM
Ugh...we did and won't do it again. It was too hard to do things we wanted. My husband tried to please everybody by keeping us together which made it much worse! Now our relationship is strained (not me and my hubs lol, my in laws and me). Just make sure you have down time and if you want to do stuff or they do, split up, everybody needs time apart! - ccmom  184.1 #40 5:56PM
Nobody on my side wants to go they would rather go to the beach but my in-laws would love to go with our whole family. The only problem is my husband and my sil hate each other. I don't think them going together would be a good plan. - girlonfire  52.6 #89 6:28PM
Our best friends always go when we do. They stay in the campgrounds and love disney. The last group I went with wouldn't ride anything. The haunted mansion scared the wits out of them. Yes they are adults. I tried to find things that would interest them to no avail. We spent 30 minutes in downtown disney. Each month when I pay the visa bill I grit my teeth. I had my knee relaxed 4 yrs ago and got around the parks just fine. I didn't need a scooter. Maybe your mil won't need a scooter. I am 61 not sure her age. - jbzdogz  10.1 #231 7:37PM
Replaced not relaxed. - jbzdogz  10.1 #231 7:38PM
I would not vacation with my husbands family. We would be footing the bill and I'm Not going to do it. I have been asking my family to come for years. Maybe one day. I vacation with my best friend every year. They are DVC members too - 5disneylovers  773.9 #5 7:50PM
No one works on my husband side. I don't mind assisting but that's a hot mess. - 5disneylovers  773.9 #5 7:51PM
Dont get me started! My Future MIL would never go ... They look at me goong to disney so much as a joke. They will NEVER understand!! IUGH - Boardwalkgirl  54.9 #86 8:41PM
We always take my mom! Last year my sister and her kids met my girls and me and my mom and we had a great time at Disneyland! We've gone with extended family with the understanding that it's ok to go separate ways. We have some that like to get up and get to the parks early (we are group A lol) and others who meet us later (group b) Also if there are more people in your group there's always someone to stay with the little one while we ride the big rides. - brittandkell  347.5 #584 8:51PM
There are time I wish my mom and dad would go, I have asked but they have declined. Then there are other times that I say , it would never work. They are just so critical of kids some times it makes me crazy, so it's probably better that way. Now my MIL always wanted to go but did not want to fly so she would always say when you drive down I think I want to go. She loved all the pictures and video we brought back and would look at all the pictures and say how amazing. Then she got sick and was never able to make the trip so I am sad about that but I think at times she is with us in spirit. I was very fortunate to have such a wonderful MIL - mmddgp  374.6 #18 6:43AM
Sounds like some of you have a BLAST with your family, that's so great. I'm very close with my family, like I said we went with my parents in 2009, but it's not their thing, it was nice for them to go and see their grandkids enjoy it so much. I doubt they'd go again. I've asked my sister to go with us (her, her hubby and 3 kiddos) every year we go, but they are waiting for the 'perfect' time to go, LOL. I know they'll only go once and her hubby isn't into amusement parks, they like nature and hiking (blah). No, seriously we camp in the fall a few times, but it's a weekend for us, not a week or two at a time. As for the in-laws, I'm pretty sure it'd be a lot of drama and we would enjoy it SO much more solo. So . . . we go this year alone and couldn't be happier about it!! - DizneyGirl  546.4 #9 8:29AM
Good. I want my family to come one year. There's never a perfect time for them lol. For now we are cool with my best freiends family and ours. - 5disneylovers  773.9 #5 9:26AM
No, no and no. The ones I had to deal with when I grew up were bad enough. - Lelundrial  440.1 #418 9:26AM
lol - DizneyGirl  546.4 #9 11:54AM
I would not be able to take anyone. If I had to take someone it might be my sister-in-law because she kinda likes Disney but we do things completely diffrent. My husband has gone to DL with my parents but he had a blast. - lakerck  164.5 #45 9:45AM
We have gone only once by ourselves meaning my hubby and our two kids. Every year we go with my in laws and sister in law and hubby who all love disney! Last year we took my parents for the first time and my brother and his fam came along for a total of 15 people! It was fun, looking forward to our next trip in sept with the 8 of us!!! - shewsluvwdw  58.0 #84 11:26AM
