So I was talking to my husband and he thinks we shouldn't be doing chef mickeys he just cant seem to justify spending almost $100 to eat breakfast. We aren't on the dining plan...I am assuming that would be how much it costs since the site said prices are $15-35. I just don't know how to talk him onto it or is it just something that isn't a must????

We enjoy it , a buffet is a buffet but still was a fun time , and lets be honest we all have seen kids and adults do gross things at disney lol, and that's just the things we have seen , I won't even touch the rails :) - tracsant  1265.5 #2 4:41PM
Yes people do gross stuff even at disney. I'm ok with not knowing but when you see it it in more than 2 occassion. You stay away. Lol. Personal preference. - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 6:51PM
We saw a kid sneeze on the plates at boma, and when we went to wp my brother in law found a hair in the ribs , which always disgusts me after he told the waiter the cook came out , who was completely bald and said well its not my hair lol I couldn't stop laughing it was our first time eating there , - tracsant  1265.5 #2 7:34PM
Seriously! Lol! - mmddgp  637.0 #10 7:49PM
Ha ha. - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 7:51PM
That is hilarious!! - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 8:58AM
I don't think it's a must do because the food is not that great and all the character there can be seen at the character spot. - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 2:26PM
Side note i may be bias as I saw kids do a few gross things there a few times we were there. Lol - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 2:27PM
Ewwwwwww, ok I am removing that one from theist now. We have done breakfast there before, and it was ok. I have never been a fan of buffets. - Lelundrial  571.4 #334 2:30PM
*the list - Lelundrial  571.4 #334 2:30PM
We do not go there or 1900 park fare anymore ( same reason). - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 2:45PM
See I am not a fan of buffets but thought the kids would like it so I was going to do it. But I am germ freak....so you just made up my mind!! Now have to look at somewhere for breakfast.... - ccmom  187.5 #43 4:03PM
Are you flying or driving? You are staying in the cabins take some breakfast food with you. That's what we do less stress of fighting the crowds at the food court and do a favorite character lunch or dinner - mmddgp  637.0 #10 5:36PM
W are driving so we plan on taking food with us. We are doing breakfast and dinners at the cabin just lunch at the parks and it will be quick service. We were just taking wed off to play and explore so I was going to do a nice breakfast, but the more I think about it we can relax and sleep in then go explore other resorts! - ccmom  187.5 #43 7:16PM
I agree ohana is a decent character breakfast , it's family style , they serve eggs , potatoes and waffles and sausage and bacon , bread , they were also giving samples of a healthier option such as egg whites , chicken sausage , turkey bacon they wanted our opinion , I find if you go later the characters tend mingle more , it's good food without the buffet option , but I'm sure you will be happy with whatever you choose - tracsant  1265.5 #2 7:22PM
I want to try Ohana's but there are only two of us, and neither of us can eat that much food. - Lelundrial  571.4 #334 3:44PM
Go hungry. It's really good food. - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 4:09PM
Hehe, I would have to skip dinner the night before. I usually don't get hungry until 10am. - Lelundrial  571.4 #334 6:32PM
It's not a must do , especially since your not on the dining plan !!! Characters can be seen elsewhere !!! I would bypass it !!! - skcanfield  511.1 #14 5:06PM
Ohana has a really fun character breakfast. The food is good & the characters are fun(Mickey, Pluto, Lilo, Stitch). The food is served family style. - perdita  71.2 #84 7:04PM
Oh no, I am a germ freak too, guess I am canceling that reservation..ick - DisneyVicki  23.6 #149 8:22PM
I hate to say it but things are going to happen. Disney is a magical place but it does have. Humans working and running their services and as much as we want it to be perfect it's just not. There are hundreds of cm waiting on thousands of people daily that if you did the calculating it is probably less than 1% service issues. We just have to have faith that they are doing the right things for us. I don't think if these things because it makes it less magical and well I don't want it to be. You have great choices, I wouldn't cancel anything - mmddgp  637.0 #10 8:41PM
I have been going to Disney twice a year since 1993 and have eaten at many restraunts and have not had any major issues yes some food is better that others but no issues - mmddgp  637.0 #10 8:49PM
We loved Chef Mickey's and I think we will continue to do buffets. I thought it was only where I live that uneducated people forgot to consider others and teach their children the same I've seen things at some buffets here my sister won't serve herself anything from the buffet. I just don't eat that item ever again at that place Maggie is right about trying things, we've added some things each trip to the "glad we did it, don't need to do it again" list - lala03  68.0 #86 8:43AM
We also go to breakfast buffets very early, most of the time at 7:30 when those places are just opening. Maybe that's why we haven't had bad experiences yet... Because the food is freshly made, buffet area is still clean, and there aren't many other guests dining that early with rowdy kids, lol!! - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 8:56AM
We eat breakfast there almost every trip. We love it!! I've never seen anything gross. The food is good but we mostly go for the characters. We do the Dp, idk if we would still go if it was out of pocket. - Schramke  522.1 #12 8:34PM
Same here. We only do the character dinning if we have the dinning plan. - mmddgp  637.0 #10 8:51PM
Ok, I'm not canceling. I will take my chances :) - DisneyVicki  23.6 #149 3:03AM
That's a tough one... we try to always work this one in, or simiilar character dining favs, but only because we usually do the dining plans. We did it once without a dining plan and it was ~100 bucks for 3 of us (that was in '05). Like 5DL said, you can see all the characters in the parks, so it isn't a must, really... unless you just want to do a character dining. - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 2:30PM
If you want to do a character dinning the garden grill has an excellent one with Mickey, Pluto , chip and dale and they bring the food to the table or holly wood and vine with jake, and a few other characters and I think tuskars has one also but I don't know who is there - mmddgp  637.0 #10 2:50PM
Goofy Mickey Donald Minnie - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 2:59PM
Oooo I might have to do that one next time. Thank you! - mmddgp  637.0 #10 3:01PM
My sis just did tusker and said it was fun but its the same price for breakfast. I would do garden grill but we are staying at the cabins and can meet them at the campfire. =) - ccmom  187.5 #43 4:05PM
I would rather spend the money on lunch or dinner my kids are not big breakfast eaters. Give them a box of ceral and they are happy - mmddgp  637.0 #10 4:57PM
Mine too. We do only a few breakfast spots. That's why I never get the deluxe dining - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 6:16PM
Garden grill is nice because it is served to you. But expensive. I personally love the character spot at epcot you see everyone in one spot it was great. For the money i feel so rushed eating then quick get uptoget a picture then shove more food in then quickbget a picture now food is cold and i have indigestion - Bakerjars  240.4 #31 4:16PM
Yea they are but we only do the dinning when we can get it free other wise we are doing qs. - mmddgp  637.0 #10 5:00PM
Are you still doing WW? I an joining Saturday. - Bakerjars  240.4 #31 6:09PM
Garden grill is great. - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 6:14PM
@Bakersjars, I'm still doing WW online!! - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 8:59AM
@ robin yes I am still doing WW. I have been at a stand still for a year so my resolution is to try harder on the plan and exercise more. We will have to start our support back up on MouseWeight. Good luck we will keep in touch. - mmddgp  637.0 #10 9:01AM
Maggie how have you been doing on line? Good luck in the new year - mmddgp  637.0 #10 9:03AM
I was just thinking of MouseWeight!! I just ate whatever over the holidays, but started back tracking all my food on Jan 2. So far so good!! My new goal is June 3, our next trip!! Determined as ever!! πŸ‘Š - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 9:15AM
I havnt started to track yet. I have weigh in on tues it's probably going to be ugly and we have inventory on wend so then I will get down and dirty. I have to do this! - mmddgp  637.0 #10 9:18AM
Just face the scale with a newfound determination head on, you can do it!!! - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 9:59AM
Thanks Maggie! That's what I need!! - mmddgp  637.0 #10 11:07AM
Character dining is fun but your meal does get frequently interrupted. We did chef mickey's last time and were not impressed. The food seemed old. We really enjoyed tusker house. The characters were in safari clothes (very cute). We made a reservation around 111am so we started with breakfast and ended with lunch! Plus we got a fast pass to the safari before we ate and it was time to ride as soon as we were done. It worked out great. - Disneyaddict  374.7 #569 4:25PM
My family enjoys chef mickeys. We have always gone on the ddp, so I can imagine your hubby being picky. If u haven't done chef mickeys yet u def should. Good food, tons of choices for everyone, and character time ! - Staceymouse  11.1 #231 4:31PM
Thank you all for your input. Since we are not on the dp we are going to skip it. my hubby won this round lol! - ccmom  187.5 #43 7:21PM
Have you ever done the hoop de do? - mmddgp  637.0 #10 7:32PM
I still haven't canceled I am going to wait until we get there.....maybe he will change his mind. Although as of right now he thinks I should cancel. Its such a tough decision for me since my son desperately wants to do it. I am almost to the point of taking my son by myself and since little miss is 1 she won't know what she missed. That way he can still have the experience. - ccmom  187.5 #43 5:45AM
How old is he? Honestly just to see his expression and reaction is worth the money. We do not do breakfasts though we do late lunches that way it carries us into the early evening. Good luck. I hope it works out for you - mmddgp  637.0 #10 7:21AM
It's a tough decision certainly. Personally, I love character dining, and we have been fortunate enough to experience most of them in recent trips. We loved Chef Mickeys, from the restaurant location, the decor, the characters in their Chef outfits, to yes, even the food, lol! We have done it twice, once in 05 and once in December, and did not have a bad experience either time. - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 7:38AM
If you can afford the experience and it is something you really want to do, I say go for it!! There are so many things to experience at Disney, and you may not like them all. But that's OK, you live and learn what your family enjoys most and can make different decisions the next time you go if you tried something unfavorable. Perfect example, I really wanted to experience 1900 Park Fare, the characters were wonderful, the food was not, so now I know, and we can at least say we tried it once. Good luck, whatever decision you make, you will have the best time ever!! - mrsincredible  1061.6 #4 7:42AM
Well said Maggie - mmddgp  637.0 #10 7:49AM
Well said mrs I. - Bakerjars  240.4 #31 10:01AM
My son is 6 he will be 7 the day we leave Disney! Thank you all for the input!! We decided to leave the decision up to our son since this trip is for him we want him to experience whatever he wants. We keep needing to remind ourselves this is all about him!! So if he decides mon he doesn't feel like going we will cancel since our ressie isn't until wed. =) - ccmom  187.5 #43 1:49PM
We are very diverse group here. We all won't like everything so we respectful agree to disagree. You should try all Disney has to offer at least once. I'm sure you too will have tons of experience to share with our group when you go. That's what great about our group. Looking forward to you going posting pic and reviewing you restaurants. Welcome again. - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 4:29PM
Lol skip the welcome portion - 5disneylovers  1019.4 #5 4:31PM
Haha yup I agree on this being a very diverse group and many things other people like to do are things our group just into. We are going to take this as it comes lol!! I truly appreciate every single persons input and ideas it has truly helped me plan many aspects of our trip. If it wasn't for the friends on here I wouldn't have known where to even start!!! - ccmom  187.5 #43 5:55PM
