Well family, I have some good news and bad news. Let's just get the bad news over with... after a great deal of thought and mulling over our decision to become DVC members, we decided 45 years was just far too long to lock us into a financial obligation with the annual dues and taxes. If it had been 25 years, we would have signed in a heart beat, but 45 is just too long, and we don't want to burden our children with an expense they may or may not be able to keep up at that point in their lives. The decision makes me a little sad, but I know it is the right one for our family. Now, on to the good news... we have decided we will STILL go to DW June 3-7, flights are booked and resort ressies are made for Art of Animation. We are taking Mr I's parents and our nephew (will be their first time!). This will also be the first trip that we'll have all 3 of our boys together, and Jacob's first trip!! We have already made some dining ressies as well (BOG, Akershus, Garden Grill, Rainforest at AK, Boma for breakfast, and Chef Mickey's). We'll likely do QS for the rest of our meals. So, that's the latest with us. Hope all is well with you all!! 😊

Only you know what's best & that's important !!! Glad your still taking your trip !!!! - skcanfield  563.4 #15 4:20PM
Excellent ressie choices!!! Glad your next vacay is on the countdown. - Maleficent69  124.7 #64 4:26PM
Sorry to hear that, but you do what you have to do that's right for your family , it's been a great pleasure being a dvc member , I love the freedom and for what we pay in dues a yr is less than what a hotel for 1 visit would be and we have a lot of points , but I understand what your saying , it can be a scary decision , a lifetime commitment , and only you and the hubs can decide what's right for your family besides it will be there should you ever change your mind, and yay for trip , I can't believe you planned that much already lol:) - tracsant  1478.4 #2 4:31PM
Good point!! It will always be there if we change our minds!! 😊 - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 4:37PM
Aww sad and happy for you. Have a great night - mmddgp  949.0 #7 4:35PM
Sorry you decided not to become at DVC member, actually I think they lowered the length of membership i think it might have been 50 years when we joined(I promise to my parents ill make good use of it when I'm older! Lol) you can also always change your minds and decide to join another time! But yay about your trip! So how many days is the countdown saying? I'm guessing less then 180 if you've already made dining ressies so yay! - nodell111  166.4 #54 4:59PM
177 days!! - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 5:01PM
Yay! Getting closet! - nodell111  166.4 #54 5:22PM
I mean closer! Lol - nodell111  166.4 #54 5:23PM
Happy to hear you're still going in June! We also had the same thoughts as you when deciding to check out DVC. It's an awesome thing, really is, but it's not for everyone. - DizneyGirl  936.0 #8 5:16PM
Oh and those of us that don't join, love Disney just as much ;) - DizneyGirl  936.0 #8 5:17PM
So true!! πŸ‘Š - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 6:22PM
Sweet friend, you'll still be there ALL the time, but now you won't have the worry of such a long commitment! Now, let's talk more about this trip in 177 days! Your ressies sound fabulous!! Are you doing Akershus for breakfast? Have you done Garden Grill before? Not that my girls really cared, but we rode Living with the Land right before our dinner at GG. Then, the server told us that the some of our meal came from food they grow right there on that ride! Pretty cool!! At the time my girls were like, "Yeah, yeah, where's Chip?" However, I'm hoping they will think that's pretty cool when they're a little older. Yahoooo on your trip!! I'm so excited for you!!! - BagGal  340.9 #25 5:29PM
We did Living with the Land this last trip, and I don't remember if it was my first time or not. If not it had been a while and was definitely Jonah's first. It was really cool, to know that's where the food from Garden Grill comes from. We have never tried GG, but I know we'll love it!! We missed seeing Chip and Dale during a meet and greet this trip, saw only Dale. But, he tickled Jonah and we got some DARLING pics of it!! I'll post one for you! We have never tried Akershus, but heard breakfast is better, so we'll do that one. I have three boys, and we'll have our nephew with us, so selfishly, Akershus is all for me, haha!! - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 5:45PM
I like your way of thinking! I wanted to do Akershus this last trip but having all men in my family but me didn't think they would enjoy. Maybe I'll be a little selfish next trip. Lol!πŸ˜€ - disneycm  701.6 #11 5:52PM
Love garden grille one of our favorites. When we do akershus I let my little man be photographer it helps him to feel a little special with all the focus on the princess. . - Bakerjars  251.9 #36 6:20PM
@DisneyCM -- oh yes, do it for you, gf!!! Haha!! - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 6:25PM
@BJ - that's a great idea!! - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 6:26PM
Thanks for the Jonah - BagGal  340.9 #25 9:15PM
Strange! I wrote a long reply and only the first few words showed up. Anyway, what I was saying was that the pic is ADORABLE, and I absolutely love it!! Also, you should make yourself a sparkly little crown shirt for Akershus and let your inner princess soar!!! πŸ’Ž - BagGal  340.9 #25 9:18PM
You know what is best for your family. We have been considering dvc for a couple of years but is doesn't make sense for us for the same reasons. Your up coming trip sounds great & you will have many more after that!! - perdita  71.2 #86 6:02PM
Glad we are not the only ones that did that. We bought into it but when we got home I freaked out. We backed out and they were so nice. We also said it will always be there if we change our minds. - Ariel42  262.9 #32 6:06PM
They were so nice to us, too!! Never any pressure, not to try to get us to join, or after when we changed our minds!! I wish it was right for us, I still think awesome!! 45 years is just a really, really long time to commit to an annual payment. 😒 - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 6:28PM
I almost joined 2 years ago but really thought about it and the financial that would be necessary. I agree that the time frame should be shorter. That would make more fiscal sense. And looking back I'm kind of glad I didn't join because now I've been laid off, looking for a job and money will be tighter than ever for me. But that's not going to stop me from my yearly pilgrimage to WDW. Also, great ressies so far!!! - Tinkerbell1265  442.0 #19 6:14PM
That was Mr I's point, what if one of us loses our job, or becomes disabled, or heaven forbid one of us passes? Then, what if none of our boys are interested or financially able to take on the expense when we can no long afford to go or are no longer I good health to go and enjoy it? Just so many unknowns... 45 years is a long time. I think I'd just rather go when we can, even if we can't stay in deluxe accommodations every time, it's still Disney, and lets face it, with the quasi-like itineraries I conjure up every trip, we don't see much of our room anyway, lol!! - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 6:34PM
Mrs I we have been on the fence for years about it especially since our friends that we travel with got one but we just always decide against. We don't like that the food selections are so limited with out ressies at DVC hotels. - Bakerjars  251.9 #36 6:25PM
You know, we said the same thing! If it wasn't just accommodations and included ressies and park tickets, that would be more incentive for us, well that and a shorter life of the contract, like 25 instead of 45. Yes, we could go and stay in lavish rooms, which is awesome, but we still have to come up with flights, money for food and park tickets. So while we're making those annual due payments we'd still have to save or come up with money for those other things to even be able to go. - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 6:39PM
I soo agree plus with discounts on rooms and free dinning sometimes you can get a great deal. And we do Disney like you room is for a quick nap and shower then off to the parks. - Bakerjars  251.9 #36 2:47AM
Yay for your trip. It will be a blast im sure Great decision for your family. - 5disneylovers  1152.5 #6 7:21PM
I thought the food choices were a bit limited too. And I agree with Mrs. I. There's so many other expenses along with the DVC....air, park tickets, souvenirs & food. If it was all inclusive except for the air fare of course, and for maybe 25 years I would seriously reconsider. Too many outside factors shot me down on DVC. And its such a great program but just not for me. - Tinkerbell1265  442.0 #19 7:24PM
I had no idea the commitment was that long. Well, you have to decide what's best for your family. It's not like you can't go! So awesome you already have another trip planned! - goofygal  11004.0 #7 7:24PM
45 years is a long time, I agree would be nice for a 25 year one or something lower in that area, I wish we could afford it. But you def had to think ahead and it is tough but glad to hear there is a vacation in the works coming up :) - TinkTinkTink  262.2 #33 7:36PM
I think that's actually why we passed on it..lol..we don't like to be tied down to anything like that in terms of our vacation time. It's not for everyone, but for others it works out great. Everyone has their own way of doing things. If you ever want to do it in the future though,at least you know that the option is there for you:-) Now on to this upcoming vacation news...lol...i am SO excited for u friend! Sounds great! And now u have another countdown!! Yayyyy:-) how exciting - mickeynme  177.5 #52 7:47PM
Glad you will take your trip in June. - Deppsfan  37.7 #123 9:18PM
That's pretty much why we never considered it seriously. It seems like we can always find a good sale or special and we aren't locked into annual dues if something happens. - ally  509.0 #17 4:53AM
45 years! Gulp, I had no idea! - jacdanfan  11394.2 #5 5:16AM
Thank you for the info. We were thinking about it but we would be taking on the responsibility til ages 95 and 85. Too much could happen. - MagicalFamily  65.6 #91 5:30AM
We said the same thing, too bad I didn't know about it in my 20's or even better, that my parents knew about it for me to inherit!! 😊 - mrsincredible  1190.0 #5 5:43AM
I'm sorry to hear you have decided not to become DVC members. But, you have to do what is right for you and your family. But, I know your next trip is going to be great, DVC or not! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1397.0 #3 6:54AM
I totally understand your disappointment. My wife and i have come really close to joining dvc but its to long! you may want to goggle dvcresale.. They have options for as low as$ 60/point - spcmtn85  3.6 #767 10:04AM
