Question for all of u beautiful people here on MW=) For future trips,i was wondering about the benefits of using a dining plan. We have never done it before because we don't like to be restricted with our options. We like to make reservations for our favorite restaurants and keep it like that. If we feel like stopping for a snack or QS,then we do it as we wish. That's what we used to do and i'm concerned that perhaps we ended up spending way more money than we had to,when we could have just done the dining plans and saved more money. Our biggest reason for not doing them is the whole freedom factor. We're the type of family who likes to eat where we want, when we want without being restricted (yes,we take our meals seriously...we're those type of people..haha) For future trips, however,i have heard fabulous things about the dining plans and that they can save you a lot of money (which is a big priority these days right?) We're not going anytime soon sadly...but i would love to know for future reference in terms of planning=) (and we know how important planning is!! Lol) What are your opinions of the dining plans? Pros, cons, etc? I'm especially interested in hearing about the deluxe dining plan if anyone has used that one before! Thanks all in advance...your input would be much appreciated:-)
It really depends on each family's needs.  My suggestion is go to Allears.net and look at the pricing of food that you know your family will eat and do the math.  For us we spend A LOT less not doing the dining plan.  We have used it when it's free, but this fall we did the 30% off our resort room versus the free dining and faired better. - DizneyGirl  382.4 #10 6:01PM
WE have done the plan the last two years. Found it to be well worth the money. Without the plan we had to give up some of our favorites because we could not afford it. Now they even include the refillable mug. - Pooh147856  17.9 #138 6:28PM

Sorry for the long post btw! - mickeynme  103.0 #46 4:26PM
I have never done the dining plan myself. After running the numbers, I just don't think we eat enough food to make it worth the expense. A free dining plan may be with it, but remember, that means no additional discounts on your hotel. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  425.5 #7 4:38PM
We usually do a dining plan and find that it works better for us. You might want to price out your daily spending without a plan to compare the cost. We had the regular plan last time which was one table service, one QS and one snack plus souvenir mug. Used to be 2 snacks so now we end up still spending out of pocket for something anyway. - Jalex239  379.8 #11 4:41PM
We do the dining plan because my 12 year old son would cost us way more than we could afford. - purplelooney  10.5 #194 5:03PM
We always get the dining plan. We ate off the dining plan a few days and for one table service for all 4 of us was over 70 dollars not alcohol no dessert . I cannot imagine paying for each night. What you pay for the dining plan is for lunch and dinner I think it's ok. Have you actually looked at the cost of some of the meals. There's no restriction except for the alcohol. So you can have whatever you want at whatever restaurant you wish. I refuse to cook on vacation as I think that takes away from the parks. I don't want to feel I could not have stuff because of the cost. So for my sanity it's worth it. I never get deluxe. Breakfast is easy to do. - 5disneylovers  370.3 #12 5:18PM
We always do the dining plan , but not the deluxe . It's just too much food for us . Besides the fact that its paid before you go ( which is one less money concern ) , it really helps make the trip more relaxing !! You can have what you want , where you want , and if you you do it early enough you can have it when you want !!!! We will always do the dining plan !! - skcanfield  385.9 #8 5:41PM
We have done it both ways, and I kinda like the 'just put it on my tab' feeling you get with the dining plan, feels like you're eating fancy table service meals for free (since you've likely paid for your package months in advance before going)!! :) - mrsincredible  431.9 #6 5:50PM
I have done it both ways also. If you want to eat a nice dinner every night or maybe not every night but some nights want to do a character dinning or a dinner show that count as two its well worth it and if you can get free dinning is even better. My issue is that I am paying for 6 kids and 3 are over 10 which makes them adults and they don't eat like adults so that could be expensive. For instance we went to the luau this trip and the cost is the same for tha 10 yr old and us, and he didn't like the food and the only other options they could offer was hot dog or P and J if I had paid for that I would have been upset. I think there should be a mid range price. They used to call it jr pricing. Sometimes we felt like it was just too much food. We normally do not have desert at every meal. I think if you are really into character dinning it is worth it because they are costly. Have a great night - mmddgp  187.4 #26 6:18PM
We sound a lot like your family. We would make reservations for our favorites or new places we really wanted to try but the rest of the time we just stoped when we were hungry. Our last trip was the first time we did ddp and we loved it!! We still had all the freedom we were use to. Plus it was nice to know we did not need money for food.(just tip) I would recommend it. We went during a free dining period and got the basic dining discounted. We saved close to $800. This trip we are doing ddp again. Hope this helped a little 😊 - Schramke  325.2 #14 6:26PM
We do the dining plan! It saves us a lot of money. And we don't need to plan out how much food money to bring when it is already taken care of. Agree with MrsIncedible- it makes us feel fancy too : ) - DisneyLisa78  33.0 #98 6:28PM
We were just there last week, coming from So Cal and a bit skeptical about the dining plan but went with it. We LOVED it! After asking for advice here, and from others we made dinner reservations for each night. Just stopped for QS lunch as we went. With dessert at every meal we actually didn't even use all our snacks! It was so nice not to have to worry about a food budget and just enjoy the trip! - MicheyMouse  265.8 #883 8:56PM
We always do the dining plan when we go to WDW. It's so easy- you can get whatever you want and never have to pull out a credit card or cash, just a room key. Wish the plan at DLR was the same. DLR 's isn't as good, IMHO . - Sandy  245.3 #1075 6:29AM
