Question for all of u beautiful people here on MW=) For future trips,i was wondering about the benefits of using a dining plan. We have never done it before because we don't like to be restricted with our options. We like to make reservations for our favorite restaurants and keep it like that. If we feel like stopping for a snack or QS,then we do it as we wish. That's what we used to do and i'm concerned that perhaps we ended up spending way more money than we had to,when we could have just done the dining plans and saved more money. Our biggest reason for not doing them is the whole freedom factor. We're the type of family who likes to eat where we want, when we want without being restricted (yes,we take our meals seriously...we're those type of people..haha) For future trips, however,i have heard fabulous things about the dining plans and that they can save you a lot of money (which is a big priority these days right?) We're not going anytime soon sadly...but i would love to know for future reference in terms of planning=) (and we know how important planning is!! Lol) What are your opinions of the dining plans? Pros, cons, etc? I'm especially interested in hearing about the deluxe dining plan if anyone has used that one before! Thanks all in advance...your input would be much appreciated:-)

It really depends on each family's needs.  My suggestion is go to Allears.net and look at the pricing of food that you know your family will eat and do the math.  For us we spend A LOT less not doing the dining plan.  We have used it when it's free, but this fall we did the 30% off our resort room versus the free dining and faired better. - DizneyGirl  979.9 #8 3:01PM
This way also works best for our family. - disneycm  716.3 #11 3:42PM
Really? U found u spent less without it? Interesting. I've heard many people rave about the deluxe dining plan, but you're right..it does depend on each family's tastes. All I know is that we're all big eaters,so i'm just trying to find the best route to experience all of the fantastic dining options of Disney and save as much money as possible at the same time. I'll have to compare the prices as you said. That seems to really be the best way to figure out what would be best. Thanks so much for your input! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 3:52PM
Hi btw dizneygirl! Missed u here! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 3:53PM
Thanks mickeynme - nice to be missed :) - DizneyGirl  979.9 #8 4:21PM
:D - mickeynme  178.1 #52 5:33PM
Diz!!! Where've ya been? We missed you!!! :) - BagGal  345.2 #26 1:55PM
Disney. Volunteering at school. Parents here for a week . . . . Just the normal stuff. - DizneyGirl  979.9 #8 2:05PM
I hear ya! :) - BagGal  345.2 #26 2:25PM
WE have done the plan the last two years. Found it to be well worth the money. Without the plan we had to give up some of our favorites because we could not afford it. Now they even include the refillable mug. - Pooh147856  384.5 #23 3:28PM
Hmmm...I might consider it for the refillable mug alone! Lol..thanks for your opinion..really appreciate it:-) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 3:54PM
Yes the refillable mug is definatly a plus! When we got ours, they rang them up first and I saw the price for 5 mugs was about $75! 😱Definatly a plus that they are included! - nodell111  166.4 #54 6:28PM
=O 75?? For five mugs?? Noooooo...wow..that's crazy! Lol - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:35PM
I'm shocked...lol - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:35PM
Those mugs are a staple in our trip. Free is priceless. Ha ha - 5disneylovers  1166.0 #6 6:16PM
Is it really $75 for five mugs though without the free deal?? That's so much!! I'm truly in shock about the price. Omg. Lol - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:56PM
Thank you for instantly changing my mood from grumpy to ROTFL - lala03  76.5 #86 8:21AM
LOL!! Did u read our whole insane little baby chicken commercial convo?? Lol! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 11:29AM
Sorry for the long post btw! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 1:26PM
I have never done the dining plan myself. After running the numbers, I just don't think we eat enough food to make it worth the expense. A free dining plan may be with it, but remember, that means no additional discounts on your hotel. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1453.0 #3 1:38PM
We eat a lot on vacation. We find the food at disney and each dining experience makes our trip that much more memorable. And delicious. Lol. I'll have to compare and contrast the prices. Thanks for your input! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 2:42PM
We usually do a dining plan and find that it works better for us. You might want to price out your daily spending without a plan to compare the cost. We had the regular plan last time which was one table service, one QS and one snack plus souvenir mug. Used to be 2 snacks so now we end up still spending out of pocket for something anyway. - JetsamsTwin  379.9 #24 1:41PM
Right..i think i definitely need to write down what we used to spend a day on food alone. I'll do an estimate (from about 10 yrs ago..lol) I'm sure there could have been money saved in some way. Disney is way too expensive without having a lot of these discounts and plans these days. Thanks:-) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 2:47PM
How many are in your party Jalex? There is always only the two of us and we don't eat a lot. One table service, snack, and quick stop is what we do. I have also bee debating on using the dining plan. - Lelundrial  729.6 #280 4:48PM
@Lelundrial, we are 6 but not all of us eat huge portions. - JetsamsTwin  379.9 #24 7:59AM
We do the dining plan because my 12 year old son would cost us way more than we could afford. - purplelooney  10.7 #245 2:03PM
Never did deluxe dining. - purplelooney  10.7 #245 2:05PM
Lol..i understand trust me. We all have hearty appetites here. Dining is our first priority on a disney trip. So i think perhaps a dining plan would be worth it as you said=) Thanks!! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 2:54PM
We always get the dining plan. We ate off the dining plan a few days and for one table service for all 4 of us was over 70 dollars not alcohol no dessert . I cannot imagine paying for each night. What you pay for the dining plan is for lunch and dinner I think it's ok. Have you actually looked at the cost of some of the meals. There's no restriction except for the alcohol. So you can have whatever you want at whatever restaurant you wish. I refuse to cook on vacation as I think that takes away from the parks. I don't want to feel I could not have stuff because of the cost. So for my sanity it's worth it. I never get deluxe. Breakfast is easy to do. - 5disneylovers  1166.0 #6 2:18PM
That's what i thought. I really think that there are way more pros than cons to the dining plans. We don't like to cook either because we like to enjoy the full experience of being on a disney vacation. I agree with you. And we do want to keep our sanity..lol..so perhaps it'll be worth it. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion here. Thank u!! :-) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 2:59PM
What makes it worth it is various restaurants. Character for the children le cellier etc for us. It's cost effective. It's already paid for. If I over spend I don't have to eat quick service for dinner lol - 5disneylovers  1166.0 #6 3:42PM
Yea,that's true too! Although I can totally see myself spending money on snacks and stuff that aren't on the plan...lol..so I don't know how effective it will be? Lol - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:00PM
I refuse to cook on vaca also. - purplelooney  10.7 #245 4:08PM
I never understood that. You still have to spend money on ingredients..lol. I mean,to each their own. We just personally enjoy going to disney to enjoy the food and to enjoy being on vacation and not having to do a single blessed thing. I want someone else to cook for me because i'm on vacation. Back to that when i get home! Lol - mickeynme  178.1 #52 5:36PM
My thoughts exactly, MnM! No cooking on vacation! :) - BagGal  345.2 #26 1:58PM
Yes,no cooking! I'm on vacation from all of that! Lol - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:46PM
We always do the dining plan , but not the deluxe . It's just too much food for us . Besides the fact that its paid before you go ( which is one less money concern ) , it really helps make the trip more relaxing !! You can have what you want , where you want , and if you you do it early enough you can have it when you want !!!! We will always do the dining plan !! - skcanfield  586.4 #14 2:41PM
Just having tips is enough for me. - 5disneylovers  1166.0 #6 2:51PM
In that case, maybe the deluxe dining plan would be a good choice for us! We like a lot of food:D lol...it really sounds like a great option to do this. I'm going to highly consider it. Thanks!!! =) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:03PM
We have done it both ways, and I kinda like the 'just put it on my tab' feeling you get with the dining plan, feels like you're eating fancy table service meals for free (since you've likely paid for your package months in advance before going)!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 2:50PM
Ooo true...I wont have to worry about it since it'll already be payed for. And it would make me sound like a millionaire to say that now wouldn't it?? "Just put that on my tab" I love your thinking Mrs. I!! Lol:D thank u!!! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:07PM
I have done it both ways also. If you want to eat a nice dinner every night or maybe not every night but some nights want to do a character dinning or a dinner show that count as two its well worth it and if you can get free dinning is even better. My issue is that I am paying for 6 kids and 3 are over 10 which makes them adults and they don't eat like adults so that could be expensive. For instance we went to the luau this trip and the cost is the same for tha 10 yr old and us, and he didn't like the food and the only other options they could offer was hot dog or P and J if I had paid for that I would have been upset. I think there should be a mid range price. They used to call it jr pricing. Sometimes we felt like it was just too much food. We normally do not have desert at every meal. I think if you are really into character dinning it is worth it because they are costly. Have a great night - mmddgp  1093.4 #7 3:18PM
We're not huge fans of the character dining actually. Maybe one or two during the trip. Not too many little ones in our family so we don't think it's worth it to spend all of that money when we can just see the characters throughout the parks. Those meals are costly! We prefer sci-fi,kona,the plaza, etc. I think the dining plan would be worth it,but I'm not sure. I have to figure out the costs, etc. Won't be going there for awhile though so I have some time to think about it:-( lol...thank u for your input..very much appreciated=) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:14PM
I'll meet you out front at the Safari!!! - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 5:56PM
And i bet he has never played dress up at 2am for EMH either! Fool..lol. Ok,im ready...check has been payed with the simply wonderful ddp i purchased:D Shall we depart for the Safari??? I see the tram now! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:34PM
We sound a lot like your family. We would make reservations for our favorites or new places we really wanted to try but the rest of the time we just stoped when we were hungry. Our last trip was the first time we did ddp and we loved it!! We still had all the freedom we were use to. Plus it was nice to know we did not need money for food.(just tip) I would recommend it. We went during a free dining period and got the basic dining discounted. We saved close to $800. This trip we are doing ddp again. Hope this helped a little 😊 - Schramke  686.8 #12 3:26PM
Well,we like freedom in the sense that we like to make reservations at any restaurant we choose, without worrying if it's accepted on a dining plan or not. We like to stop for QS whenever we feel like it and snacks, but we plan the entire trip basically around dining reservations that we made in advance..lol. we have to make reservations in advance because we find that most places are more booked than they used to be (because of the dining plans! Lol) So we can't just walk-in like we used to in the late 90's. You know,it really sounds good actually. Are there many free dining periods by the way? I'm sure those are very popular times to go? Lol. Thank u! Yes,this really did help! Thanks so much=) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:22PM
They actually offer it pretty often but it's not always the same exact times. You just need to keep an eye on their website and Disney camercials ect. When we got ours it was in jan so no it's not offered only during busy season. I never had to think about who accepts ddp and who does not. Almost everyone does. It's really wonderful - Schramke  686.8 #12 5:00PM
That's really good to know! Thank you very much for the information=) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 5:33PM
Np anytime πŸ˜ƒ - Schramke  686.8 #12 5:34PM
We totally need to plan a MW Disney vacay!!!! - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 9:57AM
That would be awesome!!! You can't get kicked out of WDW for laughing too loudly, right? Ahhhh, would be so fun! - BagGal  345.2 #26 1:48PM
We do the dining plan! It saves us a lot of money. And we don't need to plan out how much food money to bring when it is already taken care of. Agree with MrsIncedible- it makes us feel fancy too : ) - DisneyLisa78  44.5 #115 3:28PM
LOL!! About the only time we get to feel like we're made of money, lol!! Like that commercial, "then everybody gets there own baby chicken on their own baby plate...why isn't this working?! Because we drive a station wagon. *The think I drive the same car as a hip hop music mogul because I'm feeling richer effect". LOL!!! - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 4:04PM
I think that's a very big pro to go on vacation and not worry about how much to bring for the dining. Like one of those all-inclusive island vacations.lol. and that's a big deal for a Disney vacation to not have that as a concern since Disney is so gosh darn expensive. And I would like to feel fancy! Lol..thanks for the input=) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:27PM
It is nice for us, this time, to go with spending money, and only spending money for a few cabs (for early ressies at resorts) and souvenirs!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 4:29PM
LOL! Yes..I love that commercial too!! They don't put it on anymore! :-( lol..."no,it's absolutely pronounced endive!" Haha! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:29PM
Google it, LOL!! I just watched it like 10 times cuz I hadn't seen it on TV in a while. CRACK ME UP!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 4:57PM

Everyone becareful it's contagious lol - Schramke  686.8 #12 5:42PM
Ahahahahahaha! "then everyone gets their own little baby chickennn on their own little baby plate..and an endive salad...no it's absolutely pronounced endive...why isn't this working?" "because we drive a station wagon" LOL! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 5:43PM
LOL..i keep watching it over and over...their own little baby plate..hahaha. The endive salad though gets me every time. No,it's absolutely pronounced "endive" ha! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 5:46PM
I was laughing like a loony at about 2am at mrs.i's "safari" story!! LOL - mickeynme  178.1 #52 5:47PM
The hubs face is what gets me. "Because we drive a station wagon" all serious'ed face. Bahahahaha!!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 6:05PM
So, see, now you SIMPLY MUST do the dining plan so you can think you drive the same car as a hip, hop music mogul and eat little baby chickens on little baby plates!! Hahahahahaha!!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 6:07PM
I think that's the best reason I've ever heard to get the dp πŸ˜‚ - Schramke  686.8 #12 6:10PM
PS. That is TOTALLY my hubs face when I tell him we're going to Disney for the ump-teenth time wearing matching Mickey shirts and taking no less than 1,500 Photopass pictures!!! LOL!!!! - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 6:11PM

Mrs. i u are HILARIOUS...please don't stay away for long on here during the week! U really do add such humor to MW. I get busy too though so i definitely understand:-( wish there were more hours in the day for MW! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:22PM
LOL!! I get that alot from my hubs... I get caught constantly with my head buried into my phone with a goofy smile on my face, or worse, laughing hysterically in bed in the middle of the night trying my best to muffle it, and the bed all shaking from me laughing so hard. I don't know why he puts up with me, LOL!!!! - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 6:22PM
@Schramke - Just do what I do, buy them, and hide them, and when he's done packing for Disney, switch out all his shirts with his new Mickey ones and when you get to Disney, "Ooops, honey I have no idea how that happened!!" Haha!! And, then you're already AT Disney, what's he gonna do, go to World of Disney and replace all his shirts??? :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 6:25PM
Hahahahaha...i find i'm the one always hysterically laughing. The smallest things amuse me!! I guess that's good right?? I'm definitely the not-so-serious one out of the two of us...oh well! LOL - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:28PM
LOL!!! What a great idea mrs. i!! Do you really do that??? Haha! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:30PM

I Love It!! I knew you'd have the answer - Schramke  686.8 #12 6:35PM
LOL, no, not really - though it would work, right?! For some crazy reason, my hubs doesn't mind the matching. Either that, or he's been married to me long enough to know it's not worth the fight, haha!! If I signed us up to sing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah with the Magic Kingdom Barbershop Quartet on Main Street wearing head-to-toe Mickey gear and face paint, he'd go along with it... why, I have no clue; he humors me alot. He's a good sport!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 6:36PM
All out of love!!!! Lol...although secretly i think he really loves all of the festivities and excitement more than u! (if that's possible???? Lol) I've seen his posts on here...i think he definitely loves it all more than you and you just don't know it! Lol...did you read his mickey song post he started?? M...I...C....... - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:58PM
I can tell there is never one boring moment in your household...sounds like my family!!! Lol..and we wouldn't have it any other way:D - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:59PM
Oh yeah, he LOVES Mickey... and has all his life. He just closeted his feelings when I started going over the top with my Disney facination. I can't imagine why he wouldn't want to jump on the crazy train with me shouting it from the rooftops, lol!! I guess he figures I have enough crazy for the both of us, haha. ***That's why that whole 5 year plan we were talking about earlier is IN THE BAG!!! :) - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 7:02PM
I know it is!!!! I highly doubt the man will say no! How could he?? He wants to go more than you! Lol...i can't wait to see your pics from your trip when you go! Oh, hey, BG, I have a fix for that (logging into FB and no one is talking about Disney). Go out and 'like' every page out there that even remotely relates to Disney. My feed is 95% Disney ALL day EVERY day now. I have died and gone to Disney Facebook heaven, lol!! - mrsincredible  1325.0 #4 4:01PM
What a wonderful idea!!! U have solutions for everything mrs. i!! I love all of your creative solutions:D - mickeynme  178.1 #52 4:12PM
Man, I really did miss out! That commercial is HILARIOUS and so was your convo! Totally agree on the dining plan making me feel like a hip hop music mogul! At WDW when we are on the DDP, my girls ask my husband, "Can we get dessert, Daddy?" He says, "Sure, of course!" every time they ask! I think they are wondering, "Is this the same guy who buys Kroger brand Froot Loops?!?!" - BagGal  345.2 #26 4:42PM
I'm kidding about the Froot Loops, but he does like his Kroger brand stuff. ;) - BagGal  345.2 #26 4:44PM

Great plan BG!! Let's do it!!! :D - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:54PM
Yes,totally must plan an MW disney vacay!! Oh my goshhhh...how hilarious would that be??! What FUN! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 1:09PM
We were just there last week, coming from So Cal and a bit skeptical about the dining plan but went with it. We LOVED it! After asking for advice here, and from others we made dinner reservations for each night. Just stopped for QS lunch as we went. With dessert at every meal we actually didn't even use all our snacks! It was so nice not to have to worry about a food budget and just enjoy the trip! - MicheyMouse  359.4 #671 5:56PM
That's what i'm hearing! It sounds like it might be good for us and totally worth it. I have to figure everything to really compare, but i think it would definitely save some money! And i really like the fact of not worrying about a food budget on vacation..lol. Thanks so much for your input! =) - mickeynme  178.1 #52 6:14PM
AND.... When my daughter made their plans the dining plan was free!! Can't beat that!!! - MicheyMouse  359.4 #671 9:15PM
Yes,i heard about the free dining plan times!! Sounds great! I'll have to look into that for whenever i plan a next trip. Definitely sounds very appealing!! Thanks:D - mickeynme  178.1 #52 1:03PM
We always do the dining plan when we go to WDW. It's so easy- you can get whatever you want and never have to pull out a credit card or cash, just a room key. Wish the plan at DLR was the same. DLR 's isn't as good, IMHO . - Sandy  245.8 #1452 3:29AM
That sounds like a really good benefit to the whole thing. The only real negative would be if we didn't really eat a lot to even get a real benefit out of the plan. But we do..lol...so i think it sounds worth it. Will definitely definitely consider it. Thank u! - mickeynme  178.1 #52 1:06PM
