Tomorrow is the Haunted Mansion's birthday! Aug. 9, 1969 – Haunted Mansion opens at Disneyland Park
Welcome, foolish mortals! Walk through a cemetery-like garden to the steps of a pale white manor overlooking the Rivers of America, where you’ll enter a chamber with no windows and no doors. Find your way out and board a “doom buggy” to venture deeper into this eerie home, encountering Madame Leota leading a séance, waltzing ghosts at a swinging wake and a bride who’s a “cut” above the rest. Nine hundred and ninety-nine happy haunts live here, but there’s room for a thousand … any volunteers? Although the attraction debuted in 1969, the mansion itself was built in 1962, sitting vacant for several years as work on the interior was delayed by Disney’s projects for the 1964 World’s Fair. Haunted Mansion was also an opening day attraction at both Magic Kingdom Park and Tokyo Disneyland. Phantom Manor at Disneyland Resort Paris and the upcoming Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland put their own unique twists on this cadaverous classic.
