Jul 22, 2012 7:36 PM  WDW Talk Land
Greetings from Cali! I am a DLR CM and am currently in the early stages of planning my WDW vacation...I've never been to WDW or even on a plane!! I hoping you can help a fellow MWer with some of my questions from hotels to dining! :)

My little tips. If you like to eat then the dining plan is for you. I usually don't eat that much while at the parks but love to have nice dinner. In the end the dining plan works for me since it saves. It can be a lot of food. Places you should eat is Casey's Corner at MK, Pizza Planet at HS, and for a nice restaurant try 50's Prime Time at HS. Resort wise, Movies is my fav as for a moderate Caribbean Resort! - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 8:45PM
Sorry for the typos. Hard to catch them all on my cell. ;) - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 8:49PM
Oh and sci fi dining - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 8:59PM
Yes and sci-go dining:) love those onion rings and the light-up ice cube! Lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:27PM
Yeah more than likely the dining plan will be good a fit for me...I'm an eater :p ohh 50's? Sci-fi? HS sounds like my kind of park! Thank you all so much!! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:00PM
Oo since you're really into food, what r fave kinds of foods? That's our main thing whenever we visit. We actually plan our trips around our meals. Sad but true! Lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:08PM
Yes, HS is my fav. Beautiful park. :) - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 10:08PM
Restaurant-wise,my picks are sci-fi for sure and 50's prime time cafe, brown derby (all at HS) At Epcot, there's the restaurant in Canada,in Italy, and Mexico, coral reef is also pretty good. At MK the plaza and Tony's are great and crystal palace has a great buffet. At hotels, chef mickey's is awesome and artist point is good and so is whispering canyon, kona cafe for breakfast, ohanas is all u can eat (amazing for dinner),California grill,Narcoose's and citricos, and grand Floridian cafe are also great - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:22PM
I'm a simple burger and fries kind of guy! but I'm currently reading the menus right now...I CAN'T WAIT!! Haha I really appreciate all of the advice! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:25PM
For QS, hotdogs from Casey's are great, sweet cream cheese pretzels from under the astro orbiter are yummy, cosmic rays has everything and so does sunshine season food fair..ummmm..I'm babbling! I need to stop now and get some sleep.haha..I could talk about this all day:D and codiejoe is right btw..HS is a beautiful park! - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:27PM
Hollywood studios is like California adventure...well minus the Carsland...HS is one of my favorites...first is Epcot - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 10:27PM
Hollywood Studios is going to pretty much make or break my trip...I'm a film buff lol and being here in Los Angeles all of my life the bar is set high...so I'm really looking forward to HS! :p - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:30PM
Haha..my dad is simple burgers and fries too..we're simple.we don't require exquisite plating and tiny desserts and all that.LOL..we eat anywhere and everywhere in disney tho. For hotdogs,Casey's. Sweet cream cheese pretzels are found under astro orbiter. Burgers and all of that at cosmic rays. Sandwiches and burgers (make it how u want them to) at the plaza. Oooo and dole whip is a VERY popular dessert discussed here on MW WDW. It's found in MK and at the Polynesian:D - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:32PM
Hmm..actually,I have to say that there's not a huge assortment of things to do at HS. It's not a large park. Others here may disagree with me. Great movie ride u have to go on for sure, star tours,Indiana jones, the Walt Disney exhibit, the muppets show, and the toy story ride. As far as rides and attractions go,there's not a huge array to choose from. If u love movies, the brown derby is a classic restaurant designed after the original in Hollywood w/pics and signatures from actors/actresses. ALSO,in front of the great movie ride are actual handprints in the cement and autographs of those celebrities who have actually been there. And inside while u wait on the line, are a few relics from films, such as the wooden horse Julie andrews rode on in Mary poppins:D - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:39PM
Perfect LoL I think the restaurant and the great movie ride will be the highlight of my trip!πŸŽ¬πŸ‘ - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:42PM
Ooo wait...I'm totally forgetting Rock n roller coaster w/Aerosmith. Annnndddd the ToT which u know QUITE well I'm sure...haha. Lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:45PM
Its a very relaxed park w/a great atmosphere. Hope u have a great time when u go whatever u do! If u have any more questions, just post them up and everyone will gladly answer any questions or concerns u might have..wonderful group of ppl here! have fun:D - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:48PM
thank you all so much for the tips and believe me, you'll see me around your lounge more often...thanks FL MWers...btw codiejoe i sent you a txt! and sorry for keeping everyone up, im on Cali time :P goodnight! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:58PM
I think I replied! Hopefully I did it correctly. Lol. XD Let me know if you didn't get it! - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 6:18AM
You may think its nasty but you MUST try a churro with pretzel cheese. Don't knock it til you try it! :) - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 7:15AM
Okay this is a toughy .. Either hollywood studios and epcot, because you can sinply hop on a ferry to take you to and from both parks ... Or animal kingdom and hollywood studios.. Only because both parks are not you typical "all day" parks.. Theres not TOO much to do - Boardwalkgirl  55.9 #101 8:28PM
I don't think there's too much to do either. I thought I was the only one who felt like that.lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:46PM
Welcome. One day I want to come your way for vacation but here is what I think for when you come our way. Feb march and April all have good times during the month to visit check your calendar try to avoid times when ther are school breaks it is crazy in the parks during those times for instance presidents week st pattys day. If you are a baseball fan you can catch a ball game at wide world of sports, flower garden festival and concerts a at Epcot and since you are going to universal on Saturdays they have mardi GRAS which is great fun. We visit numerous times during the year and always stay in a valu resort. We are partial to pops because we travel with 6 grandkids and it is a little easier to get a seat on bus there, but we have stayed at them all and they all are nice. You think like we do we are showering and sleeping and that's about it. If you are going to take time to sit down and eat in a restraunt everyday then do the dinning plan if you are only going to do quick service it's probably breaks about even unless you get free dinning or discount because you are a cast member. There are so many great places to dine both sit down an QS it really is up to your taste. There also are some fun entertainment dinning also. Get on Disney site and check out dinning guide you can get a idea of what there is. Questions??? Ask away we all live to give our 2 centsπŸ˜ƒ - mmddgp  948.1 #7 9:29PM
awesome! thanks for your insight on everything mmddgp! Im going to give it some more thought as to if I prefer more QS or Sit down..so i know what to do about the food situation - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 11:04PM
How exciting when are you thinking of going? Wow first plane ride... What a great destination to get on it for. - 5disneylovers  1152.4 #6 7:41PM
I am currently thinking mid February or March/April...what is the weather like in April? I've heard FL is always humid and hot! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 7:45PM
April will be about 85-90 every day. Afternoon showers are likely. - ncjal  288.4 #28 7:51PM
WOW no way?!?! Okay I'm officially shooting for February! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 7:59PM
February is a wonderful time to visit! - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 8:40PM
Any questions in particular? Don't miss Everest, test track, Rockin roller coaster, lights motor action, lion king show. Those are the major attractions not at DLR that I can think of - timonT  410.5 #20 7:44PM
What is that 1 attraction that always seems to break down? Here at DLR it's Indy or Space Mountain...how about in FL? (I will be aiming for all the thrill attractions) - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 8:01PM
Space mountain,rock n roller coaster,test track, - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:13PM
My comment was cut off.lol.and thunder mountain. All 4 of those rides take turns breaking down depending on crowds, capacity, refurbishing, etc. - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:25PM
How wonderful!! You'll love wdw. I'm sure we'll answer any question you have πŸ˜ƒ - Schramke  664.1 #12 7:46PM
Oh and even though you work at the dl ToT try the wdw to(its longer then the one in dl) - nodell111  166.4 #54 7:48PM
Longer...but slower!:/ - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 7:50PM
I didn't know it was slower - nodell111  166.4 #54 7:57PM
To me both dl and wdw tot seems the same... - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 8:35PM
HOTEL QUESTION....What is your favorite all star hotel? Movies?Music?Sports?Pop Century? I'm looking for nothing special just a place to sleep lol - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 7:50PM
we stayed at All Star Sports and loved it...it was the first stop on and off for the busses, so we always got a good seat, and got back quickest from the parks! - ncjal  288.4 #28 7:52PM
If you go with a value resort, do Pop Century. Only one bus stop where as All Stars share the route taking longer to get to and fro! - JetsamsTwin  379.9 #21 7:53PM
I'm a huge movie person so I'm leaning toward All-Stars Movies...but I would like the most convienent and least bus riding hotel - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 8:03PM
All Star Sports has the best bus service of the three, but Pop Century seems to be everyone's favorite value resort! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1397.0 #3 8:42PM
If you want least bus ride, then I would say dolphin or swan...furry takes you to Hollywood studios, and Epcot...animal and mk is bus ride...other then all the others you will need to take a bus...it's hard to go by feet, like dl you can walk... - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 8:43PM
We love pop it's a great resort and the buses are not as bad as the other value resorts - Schramke  664.1 #12 8:47PM
Pop century and all-star movies are pretty good. Can't go wrong w/any of them actually. They're all great Disney hotels. - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:23PM
Awesome...sounds like Pop has the most votes...I really am taking everyone's opinion into consideration so thank you all so much! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:59PM
So many restaurants...so little time!! LeVelling in Epcot/Canada or The Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios if you're into steaks, Marrakech in Epcot/Morocco has great food & belly dancers, ohana at the Polynesian resort for a great character breakfast, Crystal Palace for character dinner, Tonys on Main Street for a great spaghetti dinner...oh the list goes on. Have you done any research on the restaurants or WDW resorts? - Tinkerbell1265  442.0 #19 7:58PM
Restaurants no. Quick service places yes, I'm currently contemplating on buying a dining package so thats why. But thanks for all the advice! Steak dinner sounds pretty good! - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 8:06PM
Go with the dining plan. So many options!! - Tinkerbell1265  442.0 #19 8:20PM
Also when comes time to make reservations for your places to eat don't wait last minute...it's harder to get reservations in wdw, then dl...I never have any problems getting a reservation for any dining in dl... - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 8:40PM
hello and welcome, I hope your trip is wonderful!! - DizneyGirl  935.1 #8 8:01PM
Just ask away, we love to help MWers plan their WDW trips! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1397.0 #3 8:05PM
So true!! I've never seen so much help before for disney in one place. I love it. U all are truly awesome! - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:21PM
LOL the one attraction that is infamous for breaking down is TEST TRACK!!! But it is currently being completely refurbished until december! When i was a kid i would always say "can we go on the break down ride" - Boardwalkgirl  55.9 #101 8:22PM
Until December?? Really?? Wow. Usually I go at this time of yr. If that was closed,I would've been SO upset. Lol. My bf went about 2 months ago and he was upset because it was closed then too. I hope they're making the speeding part of the ride longer! That would be awesome! Lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:20PM
I thought the site said sometime in november? - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 9:42PM
Well Hopefully it opens in time so I can ride it I heard its great...but after riding Racers at DCA I'll be way impressed if its better - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:34PM
Really? November? Oh wow. That's crazy. Such a popular ride to be shut down for so long. - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:41PM
Racers? What's that? Never been to DL. Lol. Test track goes up to 60mph I believe. It's a really cool fun ride. Has some bumps and turns. I just wish the fast part was a little bit longer. Maybe that's what they're doing? Idk. And after the ride, there's a whole area of the newest car models out. So hopefully it's fixed up soon - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:53PM
Racers as in Radiator Springs Racers...our newest big kid ride in DCA..it is from the same ride system as Test Track but just with the Cars theme pretty much - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 11:01PM
I heard that Carsland is cute...but also heard speed wise, some say test track is faster... - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 11:05PM
PARK QUESTION...if you had to split a day with any two WDW parks...which 2 would it be? (I'm thinking a 4 day trip...that means one day will have to be a split park day...because Universal will be my fourth day) - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 8:24PM
You'll need at least one full day for Epcot. Since you work at DLR, you might be able to spend less time at Magic Kingdom. Hollywood Studios will take close to a full day as well. Animal Kingdom takes just over half a day, so split that day with another park. You may want to stay flexible and judge for yourself when you get there! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1397.0 #3 8:30PM
You can split animal and Hollywood studios... - islandgirl58  452.9 #18 8:37PM
Any two would be magic kingdom and Epcot. Those are my personal preferences. Also, both Hollywood studios and animal kingdom can take up less than half a day. I feel that magic kingdom and Epcot are more worth splitting the day for. Either that or split the day btwn animal kingdom and Hollywood studios and dedicate a day each for Epcot and for magic kingdom. Hope that helps?? Lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 9:17PM
Probably for you it would be animal kingdom and studios but you have to watch because the parks close a little earlier in those months if it s not peak time so you will have to do some planning. Looke at the maps and see what you want to do yo may also want to do the park hoppers that way you can come and go as you please - mmddgp  948.1 #7 9:43PM
Hmm..I think everyone more or less covered just about everything.lol..what else do u want to know?? Anything in particular or more specific? Lol. Sry I just signed on.lol - mickeynme  177.5 #52 8:54PM
I heard WDW is strict about FastPass times...DLR rule is that you come back anytime after the 1st time till park close...are heard WDW actually checks times...is that true? - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:02PM
Sorry for the typos, I just have big fingers lol too big for this iPhone :/ - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 10:03PM
Last time I checked DW was beginning to enforce its FP times. I don't know how strict they are though. - codiejoeCM  184.0 #49 10:07PM
It's fine. This old iPad and its darn autocorrect is driving me nuts.lol. They actually do check the times and are pretty strict w/that. They'll take the time to actually look at your fast pass ticket to check the time on it. Most of them do. I think if you're within 15 min of your time you're good. Not sure tho. All I really know us that I've gone every yr and every yr they check and look. Then again, I never triedddd attempting to go in way after the time on my ticket...so I could be wrong about that. Lol. Sry I can't be if more help. Others here might he able to help u out more so maybe post it as a separate post? - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:13PM
*of more help. Autocorrect. Grrrrr - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:15PM
At codiejoe, yea you're right. They started enforcing the FP times more and more recently - mickeynme  177.5 #52 10:55PM
We were at WDW last June and it Is actually written on the fast pass that u have to return within the time frame. I asked a CM if we could be a little late, and she said no more than 15 mins. I thought they were going to start enforcing the fast pass times at DL??? - Disneyaddict  374.7 #605 11:39PM
Good to see you TM, seems like forever! - MomWithAJuiceBoxBuzz  1190.7 #145 10:19PM
it feels like forever! It's great to see how much the app has grown since the last time i posted in either lounge - TeenMickey  388.9 #579 11:05PM
Also, a family favorite at HS to eat at is sci-fi dine-in. The set up is like a drive-in and you actually get to eat in cars. It's an awesome experience. - Disneyaddict  374.7 #605 11:42PM
we get the dinning plan every time we go flame tree bbq - jeri814  156.9 #57 4:08AM
We are big Boma and Yak & Yeti fans! Epcot is a good relaxing park if you don't have kids in tow! Magic Kingdom will take a couple of days! - mkigos  48.9 #107 6:02AM
