Have one more day to decide about getting the meal plan. I have figured it out and it was about the same. My two boys usually share a meal and don't finish it and I usually order an appetizer as a meal??? So.. I'm thinking not... Feedback??? Also just got res. for the San angel inn for end of July?? Anyone try it? Looks kinda cool! Plus they have chicken nuggets which is always a bonus!

I think its worth trying the meal plan once. Its nice to order whatever u want without worrying about the price. Next time, we prob won't. U feel obligated to eat and overstuff yourself. Plus the reservations puts a bit of a time restraint on u. - Disneyaddict  374.7 #576 9:07PM
Let me start by saying, we have never done any character meals or had many sitdown meals at DIsney. We went in April and decided to go without the meal plan. Honestly I think we did great. I think the cost of the meal plan is a lot, but if you are into sit down meals and character dining, then it might be worth the money. For our family, its just not. I think what we ordered and ate, we made out much better, and weren't restricted to where we ate. IOts a pretty personal decision...good luck! - ncjal  274.2 #28 5:36PM
that being said, if it were offered free, I would have TOTALLY done it!! - ncjal  274.2 #28 5:37PM
I think the quick service plan wud b good and just fyi appetizers aren't covered under the ddp cuz that'd b something I'd just want to eat as a meal too. - Polynesiangirl  98.4 #71 2:27AM
I don't know if it's all restaurants but at Rainforest cafe my daughter got an appetizer as her meal. It was counted on our DP. - BodinFabFive  26.3 #140 10:00AM
Personally, I've never done the DP. We eat most of our meals at QS and some are just snacks. We average one TS every 2 days. One thing I've noticed over the years as the DP has become more popular, walk up reservations are nearly impossible! You used to be able to book a ressie at, say, SciFi on a whim if you were a little flexible. Now, good luck! I don't mint planning ahead, but I really wish I could still make some last minute decisions too. Especially if you're traveling with a newbie. They might see a restaurant and think it looks fun. But, of you didn't already book it may be out of the question. It seems there was a time when Disney saved a certain percentage of tables for walk ups. No more! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  1175.4 #4 7:58AM
Yep, you're right! In 2005, we walked up to Sci-Fi, and waited about 15 min before being seated. This time, we made a ressie, because people were lined up out the door in Oct when we walked by. The food isn't all that great, we just like the experience. I guess it all depends on the time of year you go, too, as to whether or not you can walk up successfully or not. - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 8:05AM
I totally agree with ncjal!! We are the opposite, as we like to do alot of character and experience meals. We didn't do the dining plan in Oct, and it was SO expensive. The trip in Nov, we will do it for sure. But, for you guys, not eating a whole lot, it probably isn't worth it. My family of all boys like to eat, haha!! - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 5:40PM
For us, the dining plan does not save us money and it was way too much food, others love the dining. If you looked at the menus of where you are eating and it doesn't save money then I would skip it. I know when we were there last it was so hot that we ate even less food. Have a great time at wdw! - Andrea84  705.5 #10 6:12PM
Kim and I got the meal plan( 1 sit down, 1 quick serve, and 1 snack a day for 7 days) and it saved us at least $300 to get it was worth it to us - firestorm64rt  41.4 #115 6:17PM
If you eat light and the kids share a meal you will not save money. If you like to have a big meal, including a dessert and the kids will eat their own meals each, then it saves you money. We do it when it's free, otherwise we go without and save around $200 in 6 to 8 days. - DizneyGirl  843.8 #7 8:28PM
For us it was worth it but we used all of our sit down meals. We are a family of five. I saved all my receipts, snack and food, and wrote the total of what it would have been. We saved $350! - BodinFabFive  26.3 #140 8:33PM
I'm going to do that, too, to see how much we save in Nov! Good idea!! So, if we booked everything as a package deal through Disney, how do I know what portion was the dining plan? - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 5:36AM
Just ask for package pricing with and without the plan, they don't mind. - DizneyGirl  843.8 #7 6:07AM
So, like call them and ask them to break it down for me? They can do that after it's already booked and paid for? - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 6:09AM
I book online so I figured out my package price and then added the dining plan. That's how I got the total. Also, we would get it even if it didn't save. Like others have said... It's so nice to have it all inclusive. That's one less stress when your there. I don't want to worry about money on vacation! - BodinFabFive  26.3 #140 7:00AM
Me either!!! - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 7:11AM
We only do the QS dining plan and we LOVE it. But for us it is not a out how much we save as it is that it already paid for. We are always on a budget and our trip booked wayyyyy in advance in order to get it paid for. So with the dp, whatever money we bring is our fun money. There is no worry over "if we buy that souvenir, will we still have enough money left to eat on the last day?" The convenience of it really seems to add to our vacation experience. - poohbr1205  21.2 #160 3:45AM
I agree...we feel the same way. Plus, I have to admit, I like the idea of 'free' dessert! :) It certainly feels free when you book and pay for your package months before, and like you said, the money you bring then becomes your fun money! - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 5:39AM
Thats a great way to look at it. We only did the QS when it was free and came with two snacks. - Bakerjars  250.3 #34 6:29AM
We've never tried the QS plan, but are considering it this trip, it seems more usable for us, the other is just too much food. - DizneyGirl  843.8 #7 6:43AM
@DizneyGirl, yes, the dp with the table service is a lot of food. Plus you have to have ressies for every day, then. It just seems to take such a large chunk out of every day that we prefer the QS so that we can spend more time experiencing the rest of the parks. Then if there is a table service that we want to try, we just budget to pay out of pocket for that meal. We limit that to one per trip. - poohbr1205  21.2 #160 6:56AM
I'm with you on that!! One of our trips we did the dining plan and did a character meal everyday. If we did breakfast we weren't to the parks until almost lunch, then it was time to scout out a QS for lunch. We missed so much park time. This trip we are only eating TS 4 out of 8 days, for dinner, the rest of them will be QS as will lunch! Every trip I learn something new :) I'd rather take a mid-day pool break than spend that time at a sit down mean every day! however, I do still love to eat at TS a few days during our trip. - DizneyGirl  843.8 #7 7:14AM
*meal - DizneyGirl  843.8 #7 7:15AM
We are actually doing the Deluxe Plan this time, for the first time knowing it will be too much food. I rationalize it this way... Our son and niece are young, so I anticipate them needing alot of breaks. All of our ressies are table ones, and all of them are either a character meal or should be a fun dining experience for them. So, in theory, they will get to break, and enjoy their meal experience, and be less crabby later on (had they not had a break). We'll see how it works for us! :) I do know when all my boys get older, it will definitely take away from park time, so we decided to just enjoy the experience now for what it is (getting to visit all of the deluxe resorts with Christmas decor, etc) knowing we prob won't get the chance again! :) - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 7:17AM
@DG - I thought about that, too, so all our breakfast ressies are before the park opens at the park we will be visiting that day, i.e., CRT at 8:00 the day we are at MK which opens at 9:00 that day. - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 7:19AM
Can you trade quick services for table services??? - timon  12.0 #222 7:17AM
If you go with the Deluxe, you can mix and match any way you want (TS and QS). But, it is more expensive and you get 2 snacks per person/per day. We have decided whatever snack credits we haven't used on our last day, we will buy snacks that travel well and eat them at home...bringing a piece of the magic home with us to enjoy when we are bummed our vacay is over! Nothing like a Mickey choc covered rice krispie to shake those blues away!! :) - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 7:27AM
We hardly used any of our snacks during our stay. We brought home a ton of the Mickey rice crispy treats and cookies from the Writer's Stop at HS. It was great to get to still enjoy Disney treats on the way home and after we got home. - poohbr1205  21.2 #160 7:56AM
I must check out the Writer's Stop this next trip!! Is that also the place that has those infamous carrot cake cookies??? :) - mrsincredible  1074.6 #6 7:59AM
@Mrsincredible, yes, that is the place. - poohbr1205  21.2 #160 8:43AM
Thanks for all the scoop . We do have a TS for every day planned with reservations. I also order from garden grocer and we have breakfast in the room. We're not going to do the dining plan but I am going to keep tabs for the future. I'll let you fellow mw's know when I get back! We allot 140 a day which includes everything. The plan was about 140 a day but without tip and only two meals so we shall see - not a big dessert family either - we'd rather eat chips! - timon  12.0 #222 9:20AM
