watching my Disney Vacation Club DVD I just got in the mail.....dreaming of owning DVC!! Someday.....definitely something to work towards! Wish I could afford it right now!!

I worked towards that goal for about a year before I bought in. I really wanted to pay off my car first. Keep focused on the prize and you'll get there too! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 10:56AM
Thanks! :-) - ncjal  233.3 #32 10:59AM
How is dvc diff from reg vacation besides a bigger room? - Polynesiangirl  98.4 #66 11:01AM
DVC is a good deal if you enjoy Deluxe resorts. It's not such a savings if you enjoy Value or even Moderate resorts. It is yours for 45 to 50 years, depends. You can stay at many, many places other than Disney World, there was even a hotel in Chicago, I noticed. You can use your points to stay in several different types of rooms. It has a lot of advantages, but it's not for everyone. - DizneyGirl  716.4 #7 12:08PM
that is a great point you brought up....I calculated it, and by their low end price of buying in at $20800.00 divided by 7 vacations they say it will pay for itself in....that would be almost $3000.00. I know it cost WAY less that that to stay at All Star Resorts. Thanks for the eye opener. Maybe I will be better off just buying vacations out of pocket...seems cheaper! - ncjal  233.3 #32 12:23PM
Ty both..so can u stay anytime u want after u r dvc? Say u wanna stay once a month-could u for free?(well I mean not paying extra) - Polynesiangirl  98.4 #66 1:49PM
Poly...when you buy the DVC, you get "points" and you use those points for locations and nights. Each place is a different cost of points. You can also borrow points from the next year or "bank" them for another year. So if you wanted to go to a really expensive place, you could do it. Did that make any sense at all?? - ncjal  233.3 #32 2:07PM
We were looking to buy 100/120 points, at $100 per point and that's only at OKW, if you do another home resort it's more. Then you have yearly fees that vary depending on your home resort. This deed was until 2057. I figured the points $s and the monthly dues we'd pay $34,570 by the end of the deed. That's $772 a year, however, this is not a lot of points! It costs 105 points to stay at OKW for 5 nights in the LOWEST season. It would cost 110 points for 4 nights at AKL for 5 nights during the LOWEST season. So you can see how this amount of points isn't really enough. I was thinking we'd either go during low season or go every other year. Also, we won't probably use our membership for 45 years, and our kids may or maynot, just never know. You can bank your points and use them the following year and you can borrow the points from your next year. You can ALWAYS buy more points, so I was looking at the least we could get buy with knowing that. However, when we go this fall IF we were to stay only those same 5 nights at AKL we will pay $835 out of pocket. So it would save some. Plus keep in mind that pricing goes up with the resorts, but points don't. Although points vary from times of year, but the same resort at the same time of year will always be the same points. Remember it doesn't include your park tickets and you cannot do any special offers (like free dining), but there are other things like discounts and such. I know too much about this, LOL! - DizneyGirl  716.4 #7 2:18PM
I meant 5 nights at AKL, NOT 4! - DizneyGirl  716.4 #7 2:21PM
DVC is similar to a time share, where you buy your accomodation. I like that once you buy it, it is yours forever. They say it will pay for itself in approx. 7 vacations. I love that you can also use it for other destinations (Paris, Tokyo, etc) that you would never be able to afford to visit otherwise! They offer small rooms or large suites, you can choose. - ncjal  233.3 #32 11:47AM
I haven't viewed the DVD yet, but read and read all the info! - DizneyGirl  716.4 #7 12:06PM
the DVD is great....it REALLY makes you want to buy into it! Just wish my wallet agreed...LOL! - ncjal  233.3 #32 12:08PM
Okay I won't watch it, LOL - DizneyGirl  716.4 #7 12:12PM
My first DVC visit, 9 nights in a deluxe studio at OKW, retails for $3600+. Crazy! The cost of my 102 points is only $752. Since I have visited Disney an average of once a year since I was born, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, it's a good value for me. It all depends on whether you will use it! - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 2:26PM
so it only cost you 102 points for 9 nights at OKW? - ncjal  233.3 #32 2:29PM
Yes, in mid October! You can look up the 2012 - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 2:34PM
...and 2013 point charts online. They will help you determine how many points to purchase. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 2:36PM
what is the least amount of points you can buy? - ncjal  233.3 #32 2:38PM
They advertise 160, but I was told you could buy any amount to start. I considered starting with 125 at AKV. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 2:41PM
ok, and where you buy your first points is where your points stay as your "home" am I right? So that first purchase is VERY important to decide carefully! - ncjal  233.3 #32 3:00PM
Yes! Although you can use your points to stay anywhere, your purchase price and annual dues are based on your home resort. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 3:11PM
Gotcha! THANK YOU SO MUCH CDKG and DIZNEYGIRL!! - ncjal  233.3 #32 3:13PM
so I guess my best bet is to talk to a DVC person if and when the time is right for me....there is a lot to think about when it comes to something like this! - ncjal  233.3 #32 2:28PM
Yes! It's important to make an educated decision. Run the numbers and think about a while. Just remember, availability is always changing and the prices are always going up. - CollegeDisneyKnowledgeGrad  984.5 #3 2:31PM
To add to CDKG's thorough explanation, your "home" resort gives you an advantage of booking as early as 11 months out. All other DVC resorts than your home you can book up to 7 months out. - JetsamsTwin  379.9 #18 6:32PM
Talk to Judy Kaufman. Ask for her she is my sales rep. Tell her yessica wild recommended you. I purchased my points from her and ask her any questions I have. I bought 100 extra points from her and at the time they were giving 20 additional free points so i ended up with 120 plus what I already had so now I own 220. - yessy  210.6 #38 7:06PM
OK I'm speechless everybody basically said everything I was going to say. I'm a DVC member and i own 220 points in animal kingdom lodge. I love being a DVC member. U could also go to the Disney cruise. That's what I'm doing this year 3 nights 4 days in the Disney dream cruise and 3 nights and 4 days in WDW in Saratoga springs and Bay lake. - yessy  210.6 #38 6:58PM
Thanks Yessy...I appreciate the info! - ncjal  233.3 #32 7:58PM
