I had to do that for BPA in school but it was for prepared public speaking and I got to rep my state. So I went to the clubs like elks club and other biz clubs and I gave my speach to them and they donated to my travel funds. I can't remember all the diff clubs and organizations like Hispanic camber of commerce, the lions, key club ect but I am from new Mexico so that was in my small home town. Also I spoke to with my school and they gave a little. We pitched it also as when we got back we would have an advert in the paper letting everyone know how we did and thank our spawners. Aty kids school the 8th graders have the opportunity to go to D.C. One of my friend's sons recycled cans, plastic, and glass for all the $2500. We also did this for our girl scout troop and made $400. You could write to your family and have them donate money in return you could have your son send them a postcard from DC. Or talk to your sons school and see if they will let you do a bake sale.
