Disney has been part of my life since I was little. I successfully brainwashed my husband to love Disney, and we are raising a son who loves Disney.

Since the price of your hopper tickets should be applied toward annual passes, you've probably already paid about half of the annual pass total, right? If you expect to go 3-4 more times, it's worth it. We make the drive from Sacramento area at least 3 times a year and have had annual passes for quite a few years.  We like being able to decide we're going and just book a hotel based on what w  More...

Yes! That's exactly what we do. We buy a 5 day ticket ahead of time and then when we go (usually Xmas time) we turn in and pay the difference for the pass. If you only go 2 times and 3 says each trip it still pays better for the AP! Plus you get the 10% off food and merchandise. And we live in NorCal also so we usually go at least twice and then any trip after I feel like it's free (except gas, hotel, and food) but it still feels nice the tickets we don't have to worry about  - brodysmommy  410.2 #505 7:56PM
and we like to buy a ticket first and use the magic morning and then turn it in for the AP and get the 10% off the rest of that trip. But yes, I say do it! We do it that way and it's great! And worth it! - brodysmommy  410.2 #505 8:01PM
I have had an ap now for 4 years and we live in Santa Cruz. 6 hour drive to DL! If you go at least two weekends in a year it TOTALLY WORTH IT. I go at least 4 to 5 times a year at least 2-3 days at a time. I'm also a run Disney addict so we use our aps a lot. We are even going down just for an overnight because we can. I have loved having them and the discounts are nice as well! Hope that's helps your decision. Β  - CourtyAstroBlisters  753.8 #232 8:20PM

Overnight! Too hard core for me. Maybe 10 years ago but not now. - dsnylvr1975  6.9 #13171 10:20PM
We moved to Sacramento area several years ago. All our family still in So Cal so we have become quite seasoned at the 6 hour drive. Hate the drive, but can't believe the difference having APs made for us. We no longer feel we have to race from ride to ride and try to fit everything in one trip. We go 4-6 times a year - fvbmermaid  227.2 #1575 10:38PM
I like the idea of not having to be rushed. And maybe just going for a few hours here and there. Not feeling bad if we take breaks in the middle of the day. - dsnylvr1975  6.9 #13171 1:14AM
we live in New Mexico 13-14 hour drive. We have passes and go 3-4 times a year. We feel if you are gonna go to the parks 10+ days a year the pass is worth it. We also get premium and just stay away from Disneyland I. The cheaper hotels. Hope this helps. You can always dm me if you have more questions. - PrincessDaisy  322.5 #737 11:30PM

Hi, Mrs. I!  Good to see you are coming out to DL!  Reading your posts, I've felt like you and I have similar families,  beginning with the fact we were married on the same date, and you have Jonah and I have Jonas. I will tell you the Jedi Academy out here is picked randomly, unlike at WDW.  The times for shows are listed in the daily schedule. Get there a bit early, have the   More...

Disneyland is obviously smaller and it's right in the middle of a busy city, unlike Walt Disney World! I would say to spend the extra money on staying at a Disney hotel. There are many hotels that are close but if you stay with Disney, you won't feel like you're ever leaving, until you really do!Β  - MamalovesMinnie  19.1 #7013 9:30AM
BUT none of this takes away from how amazing Disneyland is! I think it's perfection packed into a smaller package! It's more done-up and magical than the WDW, in my opinion. πŸ’ - MamalovesMinnie  19.1 #7013 9:43AM
We are staying at Paradise Pier with an Upper Level Park View!  We do plan to leave here and there to visit Universal and Legoland (at my boys' request), but staying on property for me was a must and worth the extra cost!   - mrsincredible  1061.7 #4 5:18PM

Remember you can have your purchases checked to your room! - TinkerSchelle  1776.5 #86 8:00PM
We love Paradise Pier! Surfs Up with Mickey and friends is a fun character breakfast in the hotel! And walking through Grand Californian to get to the parks is a little shorter of a walk! I like hanging out in the Californian too. You can take pictures with Santa, lots of seating, warm fire, Disney cartoons, and adult drinks! πŸ‘ - MamalovesMinnie  19.1 #7013 4:44PM
Oooh, they have Santa at the GC too?  We will definitely check that out!  I love spending time in the resorts almost as much as the parks!!  - mrsincredible  1061.7 #4 7:30PM
We were there for Christmas in 2013 and Santa was taking pictures by the beautiful tree! Not sure about last year, we went to WDW and stayed at the Polynesian with no tree and no lobby! I hope Santa is there this year!! - MamalovesMinnie  19.1 #7013 9:21PM
The Poly lobby construction is complete and the new lighting is amazing!! - mrsincredible  1061.7 #4 7:32AM

Oh, so you get an actual seat for fantastic if you book at blue bayou?  Nice to know. I can't do those standing shows. Is it a specific menu you order from for that?  Is lobster an option?  MsTikiMermadam  Thanks! - MeridaFan  3578.6 #36 7:54AM
Go land by land. Make sure to go on the walk throughs of Sleeping Beauty's Castle and Tarzan's Treehouse. These are quick attractions that are magical and unique. Also don't skip any rides that there are duplicates of in WDW. Our IASW is different because we have the Disney characters and the facade is outside. And overall there are differences in all the rides when you compare them to the WDW sister versions. No matter what you will have a blast! - BlackCanary86  59.8 #4258 12:32AM

That's a great surprise!  DL allows more spontaneity than WDW.  You don't have to plan out every day 6 months ahead of time.  Review the Food section on this app to see photos of food and user reviews, as it will help you decide where to make reservations.  The fast pass system is the old paper pass system, not the magic band like at WDW.  You may enjoy the Walk in Walt's   More...

We usually stay at Red Lion about a mile away, but easy walking.  Breakfast buffet included with really good bacon.  We've also stayed at Carousel Inn and Suites for convenience of being across from main gate. Have found both for less than $150 a night

What kind of price range and will you want to walk, park, or take a hotel shuttle?  We love staying on property, but it is very expensive--can only do it once every few years.  We stayed at Embassy Suites a few times when we first started visiting DL (2005, I think).  We loved it--free breakfast and free happy hour (wine, beer, and a few simple drinks for adults, sodas and Shirley temples for kids, and popcorn for everyone).  I stayed there as a teen with my parents and thought it was fun.  But, it is not walking distance.  We have used Priceline in recent years and been placed at Marriott Suites (on Harbor, not walking distance), Holiday Inn (by M&F parking, walking distance) and Red Lion (on Harbor, walking distance).  All were clean and easy, but nothing special in terms of ambiance/experience.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  600.2 #319 2:44PM
