Just booked summer DL vacation in July! I am so excited! Feel a little guilty - originally our mini wanted Sea World but it's so depressing there I convinced her it wasn't too soon to go back to DL (and we can see fish at the aquarium).
Good idea. There's always the Long Beach aquarium not to far. - sallyg  217.1 #1395 1:57PM

Does Ariel's Grotto not have character dinner? The website didn't say.
When we went in April it was only breakfast or lunch. - RadiatorSprings4Ever  136.3 #2500 9:00PM

Does anyone know of an event the week of June 17? Looking to book a stay, but the hotels are mostly sold out and the rest are way jacked up in price. No conventions listed - any ideas?
Summertime? Grad nights? - MissMolly  697.1 #141 10:50AM
Beat the drums and start chanting now, Tickets for the Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room 50th Anniversary Merchandise Event, taking place June 28–29, went on sale on 4/2/13 Here are a few other fun activities scheduled for the event: Memories of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room with Disney Legends Rolly Crump and Bob Gurr Merchandise artist signings with Disney Design Group artists, Alex Maher and Mike Sullivan, as well as Disney-inspired artists Dave Avanzino, Jody Daily, Jeremy Fulton, Doug Horne, Katie Kelly, Kevin Kidney, Noah, Robert Olszewski, SHAG, Javier Soto and Yakovetic Product showcases - OutNumberedMom  776.2 #125 11:24AM
That was my initial guess too, but that's more than a week after June 17th. I think it's Father's Day. - DeadliestPassholder  6.2 #8830 11:48AM
It's summer time and you should usually book your hotel three or more months in advance to get better rates. Hotels fill up fast especially in the summer. - rachelelizabeth  146.6 #2337 4:41PM
I booked as many hotels as possible, so there will be less crowds. Muhahahaha..... - DisneyFanZoe  1096.7 #75 4:47PM

My daughter always tries at least one new ride each time we go. Last time it was POTC and she loved it. Are the drops in Grizzly River Run the same height as drops in POTC or are they larger?
It is not dark and you are turning round and whoever gets turned to face the water usually gets soaked. more rapids, but extremely fun expecially on a warm day!! - secretagentangel  669.6 #154 2:30PM
They are not that bad. One really "big" one the rest are all small. We play the who is going to "get it" game. - MeridasHair  319.7 #523 2:34PM
They are a little bigger and more drops - Cinderellaaa  18.7 #5192 3:21PM

I need some MW support - since we had to delay our plans due to illness to Presidents weekend, I am dreading the holiday crowds. Trying to have a good attitude (it's our daughter's bday after all) but are we talking New Years like shut the gates crowds, or just crazy summer Cars Land just opened crowds? Trying to meditate - a super crowded day at DL is better than any day not at DL (and breathe   More...
It will probably be busy but nothing like New Years or Cars Land. - aidensmama  336.5 #445 9:55PM

Us too! - LaPearleNoir  573.6 #192 6:29AM
And get there as early as you possibly can to go on your "must do" rides. Have fun! - MissMolly  697.1 #141 7:04AM
I suggest you get there for park opening each day. And if you can take advantage of magic morning hour (if you are staying at a Disney resort Hotel), then do so. The parks are always the least crowded in the morning, and you will get a lot accomplished in those first few hours, so you won't care so much about the crowds later on. Make some advance Disney dining reservation so you don't have long waits for meals. Have fun! - meridafan  1036.1 #83 7:25AM

Is city hall the only place to get a birthday badge? Do they ask for proof our id? Thanks!
Ticket booths, City hall, Chamber of Commerce in DCA and most stores I believe - MEHlanie_Mouse  691.0 #146 8:34PM
^^ This & some restaurants have them. - Armenda  994.4 #89 8:37PM
We got my son's from the ticket booth and no we didn't have to prove it. - aidensmama  336.5 #445 8:27PM
The DLR hotels have them too. Grand, Pph &DL anyways.. - Pintraderswife  458.5 #265 9:14PM
If there's a long line at City Hall, head across Town Square to the Opera House. Just a rumor, but I bet they could help you out with a button or two. Maybe a map and a schedule too. - IDVandalSkipperCM  1296.5 #63 10:05PM

Well the flu hit out house so we had to cancel our trip this weekend. Now going on our daughters real birthday over presidents weekend. Not looking forward to the huge crowds but it wil be special for her to spend her actual birthday there. Are there any birthday secrets we should know about? I know if we stop by city hall she can get a birthday button.any other secrets we should know about? Thank  More...
If you go to cars land, and Mater is at the cozy cone for photos, stop in. When he sees the birthday button, he gives a birthday shout out and sings a bit. It's really cute! And normally happens as you walk up to take the photo, so maybe have someone ready to video it too? Hope it's a great weekend! 😊 - Sweet_Irish_Cream  2568.9 #22 8:35PM
wow really? cool! :D - FindingYou  126.1 #2629 8:36PM

How fun, I didn't know this! Thanks so much, we'll be there soon for my little one's bday!! 🎉 - MinnieMousewife  570.3 #194 8:39PM
that would be awesome! Thanks for the tip! - Dawnsharks  8.0 #7551 9:02PM
Red plays Happy Birthday too if you get a photo with him. I noticed that the other weekend while sitting outside of Luigi's for a bit. - KermitFan13  407.6 #321 9:10PM
That's awesome, I love red!! Maybe Lighting does too? - Sweet_Irish_Cream  2568.9 #22 9:19PM

Another question for upcoming trip - how quickly are Fastpasses going for Indiana Jones? We will be there after the holiday stuff in February, but the ride just reopened so I didn't know if they run out in the morning or are available during the day. Thanks!
According to MouseWait Pulse, there were no more Fastpasses at 3:47pm. Maybe check the wait times a few days before your trip too :) - HatboxGhost  605.9 #181 9:08PM
You picked a good time to go. You should be able to get them throughout the day. - MrsSchnooks  574.1 #191 9:08PM
I would say to at least get them before 4 or 5pm. - michelIe  422.1 #302 9:13PM
Around this time of year, they usually run out around 3-5pm (I keep an eye on it when I work in the jungle). But the time you'll be there, you should be fine. - BaseballMickey_CM  2854.1 #16 11:46PM

Ugh, accidentally posted first to WDW so let me try again . . . We are driving down from the bay area in early February taking I-5 and want to know the best way to avoid the LA traffic, which we always seem to hit. Last time we stayed on 5 and getting through LA was horrible. Coming down I-5, is there a better way to scoot around LA and avoid the traffic? Thanks
Well there is many ways...it goes around rather than a direct route to the parks but chances are less traffic and even carpool lanes to help. I rarely take the 5 myself and I live in LA. Anything that connects to 57 is good, whether the 210, 10 or 60 fwy. I prefer 60, seems like less traffic usually and a carpool lane helps. From there take 57 south and exit ball turn east and follow ball to structure area or take Katella all the way down. - MarshaMouse  2865.1 #15 8:55PM
I'm with linzee, I use that app so much and I avoid red or orange. - MarshaMouse  2865.1 #15 8:56PM
I agree, also depends on time of day, I try to drive long distances at night though that does not help always. The 210 seems to be less traveled past the 605 but you do go farthest out of your way on that one. I usually take the 60 also coming from LA area, though from the southbay lax area the 105 to the 605 to the 91 maybe but the 91 can be the worst of all. - secretagentangel  669.6 #154 9:13PM
Everybody has their own way...but we use Sigalert.com as soon as we hit Magic mountain and avoid the orange and red freeways, we sort of on the fly detour and bypass heavy areas. We used to sit in the crazy 5 traffic for hours, not anymore, the iPhone pays for itself yet again. - Linzee  517.2 #225 8:52PM
Did you get any responses on the WDW side? - Philliprocks  276.6 #762 10:03PM
I tried to respond but then it got cut off.... - brodysmommy  243.7 #1064 10:37PM
just get a cheap Motel 6 room or something for the night before and leave NorCal around 5pm. get a good nights sleep then start early at the Park. That is usually what we do. Either way..good luck! - yellowtonka  237.7 #1137 10:16PM

Found out daughter's school closed Oct 4 (right before Columbus Day). We usually try to avoid those kind of weekends due to the crowds, but it may be our only chance to see Halloween at DL this year. Any experience how busy it might be? I know closer to Halloween it's nuts - does the holiday make it worse?
