I love everything Disney. I collect pins primarely stitch. My favorite princess is Snow White because I recall watching it as child at the drive in movies. I don't have children but I love sharing my Disney trips with my neices and nephews.

Wow, that's awesome. Post lots of pics and congrats to your daughter.

I would recommend the breakfast or dinner buffet. Everything there is very expensive. You can't use the pools or enjoy most of the amenities there without a room key or wristband. It is also a LONG way from anywhere. Expect a 30-45 minute drive from Waikiki. @darthtinkerbell is definitely the expert. You should be able to wander around the grounds and explore plenty though. The beach is technically "public" but you won't be able to use towels, etc. So bring your own. - DLKenCA  2837.7 #51 9:53AM
Really!?!! We can hang out at the beach! Sweet!  Thanks for the info!  - PrincessDuckie  921.6 #203 10:14AM
When we were there in June, they checked wristbands in the Lazy River and the chairs by the big pool, and the Beach Chairs.  If they do, you just have to move somewhere else. - Winnie111286  18249.3 #3 10:22AM
Thanks for the heads up  Winnie111286. We would never break the rules since we are not paying guests. But if the beach is public I'm hoping to hang out for an hour or two on that sand and pretend we are πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ - PrincessDuckie  921.6 #203 12:38PM
ALL Beaches in Hawaii are public. It's a law. You will find some beaches that are like 1 foot (expensive hotels). That's why when you are at Waikiki, some of the hotels only have a walkway. Pretty neat law.  They do have a gate that is supposed to ask for a keycard to get in from the beach. But it wasn't working when we were there. - DLKenCA  2837.7 #51 1:30PM
How exciting! When are you coming next month? My family will actually be staying there for a few days next month for a mini staycation. We bought DVC points for our stay, which made it much more affordable. If that is something you are interested in, you can DM my hubby @Mauleficent and he can walk you through the steps. As for non guests at the Aulani, you are only able to roam the resort, dine in the restaurants, meet the characters, and use the beach. The lagoon is open to the public and definitely worth hanging out at. The character breakfast would be loads of fun for your family. Really, the only thing you can't do at the Aulani if you are not a guest is use the pools. You certainly can go and visit and get a great touch of Disney while here in the islands.  - DarthTinkerbell  910.6 #209 10:44AM
Thanks for the info. DM both of you now 😘 - PrincessDuckie  921.6 #203 10:48AM
PrincessDuckie, we've found it very easy to rent DVC points and it saves a ton (even cheaper than our Kamaaina rate -locals discount), but it does depend upon room availability and Aulani is always at 90%+ occupancy.  There are three different websites I'd recommend, just let me know if you're interested and I'll DM you the details. - Mauleficent  184.1 #0 10:52AM
For what it's worth, we rented points to stay at the Grand years ago, and found it to be a simple process--good luck, hope it can work out at Aulani for you!  πŸŒ΄πŸ³ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.2 #339 1:36PM
Ulu cafe is an inexpensive quick service type restaurant there but it's quite busy and a bit hectic, but you could take your food to a quieter spot to eat. Don't forget about self serve dole whips only $4 inside the Lava Shack! - MJmouse  324.0 #813 3:11PM
I'd also like to add that if you are looking for any other suggestions for while you are there to visit the Kualoa Ranch and do the movie tour by bus, it is absolutely beautiful there and a terrific value. There is also a fantastic luau that DarthTinkerbell recommended just down the road from Aulani called Paradise Cove (we found prices to be cheaper online). And lastly if you do splurge to stay at Aulani make sure to arrive there early as you can use the amenities before your room is ready and you have access the whole day you check out and they have a lounge there for showering! - MJmouse  324.0 #813 5:07PM
We did the Paradise Cove Luau. Lots of food and activities for all ages. It was fun. - Winnie111286  18249.3 #3 6:09PM
We are planning to make all of our food but one meal at Aulani and one luau. Thank you for the suggestion of Paradise Cove!  - PrincessDuckie  921.6 #203 8:59PM

I love Disneyland and have so many wonderful memories there. This hurts.

As someone who doesn't live in SoCal and uses my AP only a couple or a few times a year, the increase really doesn't bother me at all. I have a Premium AP. The current cost of that pass was $779. New Signature Pass is $849 and it includes free PhotoPass access. This is actually a better deal than what I currently have for me. (I did just renew my Premium for $719, so I won't be getting the new pass, anyway.). Not everyone lives locally and can be at the parks 200 days each year. I have never gone during the Christmas break because, frankly, the crowds have scared me off. That is why we do thanksgiving when we want the holiday vibe. Don't the holidays begin around November 11th each year?  So that is about two months' worth of holidays for those who wish to enjoy that time.  If I were to renew my pass next year, I would simply get the Signature pass. I don't need the highest level just for two weeks at Christmas. I understand those who aren't happy. But, I do think it doesn't have to be as horrible as everyone is making it out to be. Disney is a business. They are in the business of making money, right along with letting you make memories. The new normal for some may have to be to see Disneyland as the treat that it is for much of the country or world who does not have it in their backyard. Hopefully, our lives are full of so many things. Disney is one part of it. It shouldn't be everything. Not trying to tick anyone off here. I do think their timing stinks with this. But, just wanted to show  that there is another perspective and way of looking at this. 😊 - MeridaFan  4244.1 #37 10:51AM
Yes this makes sense but for people who live in So Cal I fell the photo pass should be an option because I really never use it.  - DisneylandDisneyland  489.2 #461 10:54AM
AP prices have gone up every year. SoCal people have had the choice of two APs that no one in the rest of the world have been able to purchase. It is not a necessity for people to buy the most expensive pass for themselves.  So you do have other options that others do not. They also have given special discounted tickets to SoCal people throughout the year. I think those are great options for those who live down there and cannot afford the more expensive passes. Again? This is another viewpoint. And I realize there is only one SoCal pass available now. And I have no idea if they will continue with the other one indefinitely. Just trying to point out that there are actually some positives for some people here. Tourists bring in a lot of money to Disney. Lots of us enjoy using the Photo Pass system.  - MeridaFan  4244.1 #37 11:03AM
MeridaFan - pikarich  6099.5 #22 11:07AM
Correction I go 201 times - pikarich  6099.5 #22 11:09AM
I could not agree more, MeridaFan.  Also, it doesn't have to be all or nothing!  I understand the AP price is high, but that doesn't mean people have to swear off Disney forever.  Some people would kill to go just once a year. - Thumper13  516.4 #432 11:11AM
MeridaFan...I agree with you. We live in Oregon and, although we're not happy about the increase, we see why it was needed. I would have liked to know ahead of time, though. We still think you get your money's worth of quality, family entertainment. And if some of this increase goes to pay cast members and adds more jobs for new cast members and Star Wars Land for everyone I'm all for it. That said...we don't have young kids at home anymore and don't have to pay for them, along with all the extras while in the park. I can definitely see and agree with both sides. You have to make the best decision for your own family.  - GrandCircleTour  363.8 #658 11:26AM
We have 2 AP holders who renewed and upgraded to Deluxe in June, so they will probably need to rethink their budgets for the next time. We are having issues with budget and rooms right now... Does anyone know why there can't be a 6th person in a hotel room at the resort for a standard or premium room like Woods/Courtyard at the Grand Californian? We are wanting to be a group of 6 adults and a second room for just one additional person just seems excessive! (I think room occupancy max is 5 people?.) Mom has her heart set on the Grand, but we'd only be staying the one night with Disneyland potentially open until 12am, so only about 6-8 hours of sleep. We'll get a great AP discount, but trying to convince everyone to pay isn't easily justified for everyone! Any ideas would be appreciated. TIA! 😁😻 - Catski23  29.3 #6288 11:46AM

it has been nonstop peak crowds this year, no abating like in the past, no off season days. Anaheim is not passing anything on to sc residents. I vote and live in anaheim. The council took a loss with the gate tax. Disney is using some of the money to fund the new star wars, land purchases, new high rise parking structure, and since they can get the money, they are trying to reducee peak crowds. So do your homework and know the facts. I have lived in anaheim for 54 years in the shadow of the park. Its a private business and they are doing what they need to do. The β€œour park” mentality is changing. Our streets are so congested with cars it takes me 45 min to an hour to drive 6 miles to my job in santa ana. I have not used the gridlock freeways for the last 5 years, it seems that everyone that left CA has come back all at once. I hope price increases will slow down the crowds but I doubt that. Disney must have great actuaries. - Plumiegirl  10330.0 #9 11:30PM
I just genuinely wish they had a kids AP, it just doesn't seem right that my 3 yo will be paying the same ticket price and can't go on anything other than Fantasyland rides.  - bellapistola  158.4 #2644 1:30AM

Glad that you had a great time and were able to cross something off the bucket list!! - lassengirl  164.0 #2567 1:30AM
soo much to see within a big crowd. I have avoided crowds but I wanted to go and it was still worth the lines. I have better strategies now. - Plumiegirl  10330.0 #9 9:08AM
Me too!  But I need to write them down, I'm sure I will forget them in two years πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I went with my sis but we were apart most of the time. It worked for us. She also went on Friday and yesterday was her shopping day. I think it would good to go for two days and stay at the Hilton. It would be nice to go there for a break. But I'm sure a stay there would be premium $$ - PrincessDuckie  921.6 #203 9:18AM
