Cheap, decent, and walking distance to park or toy story lot hotels? Please. We usually stay in more expensive places but I just talked the husband into a last minute trip next weekend before our passes expire on the 9th! Just somewhere bug free and not scary πŸ˜‚ we'll only be sleeping there. We are hardcore from park open to close kind of family πŸ˜‚

Howard Johnson's is walking distance.  I stay there all the time. Nice and you get AP Discount rate.  They are having an AP Sale now. - Winnie111286  21589.1 #3 10:25AM

My friend and I headed right to the top of Main Street station and you line up. The conductors do no come out until after park opening and if they are giving rides on the Lilly belle that day they will have a clip board where you can make a reservation, yesterday they were doing 2 round trips with 14 people per trip so a total of 28. as of today these are what still available to buy for mickeys Halloween party. These party's have become so popular and last year Disney decided to add 8 more this year more than any year. best advice is to buy early. ap and Dvc get first run then the general public. they Normally start almost in late July or early Aug. when sold to the public it's sold online and at the resort. it use to be some   More...

As we see every year someone is always looking so as you stated buy them on a credit card if you think you might be going & if you can't make it well looks like you could easily get rid of them - UTDISNEYFAMILY  2033.0 #87 10:26AM
I don't like seeing "Sold Out" on our day. It means it is going to be packed. Boooooooo. - Lelundrial  773.1 #266 11:10AM

Not the first year we went. Last year we went on Friday and we decided to never do that again. - Lelundrial  773.1 #266 11:32AM
The weekdays have been packed too with those avoiding the weekends. I think to myself it's going to be crowded always, then I deal with it better. Love all the candy though!  - secretagentangel  8044.4 #11 2:51PM
My family and are attending the party next Friday night for the first time. We are seaon pass holders so we know the lay of the land. But, does anyone have any advice on the actual party??? Do's and dont's??? My youngest is 11. So excited!!!  - Mickeysgalpal  4.4 #22130 2:15PM
It depends on what you're looking forward to. Bring a big bag or backpack to put your candy in because the bag they give you will be full within 5 minutes.  The fireworks are worth watching, as are the Cadaver Dans who will be floating on Rivers of America. You can also get pictures with several characters, some of whom are only available during MHP. The absolute must is if you can stay until the end at Main Street station the villains are all dancing. - UTDISNEYFAMILY  2033.0 #87 2:36PM
Eat before the party. Not all restaurants/quick service are open during the party which could make things challenging if not on Main Street.  - BibbidiBobbidiMe  296.2 #1000 3:59PM
Thanks for the tips!! Very much appreciated UTDISNEYFAMILY & BibbidiBobbidiMe!!! - Mickeysgalpal  4.4 #22130 7:03AM

We're here for our only summer visit and I want to be sure the little gets fabulous viewing for fireworks tonight. Suggestions? The plan it to catch Paint the Night and then stay put for fireworks. (I'm not opposed to saving a spot while the husband runs around with her, if that's what it takes) Thanks for the tips!

we started waiting around 1:15ish yesterday. Thanks to @MickeyLumboCM . It was AWESOME & SPECTACULAR  - misschurro  7737.0 #13 5:49PM
The hubs has vetoed waiting so long. Boo :( - MackeyMouse  85.8 #3957 5:59PM
The fire works start right after paint the night. As soon as paint the night is over they have everyone move into the middle of main street.  When we were there on June 3-5 we had to save our spot on mainstreet directly after the soundsational parade. We waited four hours taking turns saving the spot.  It was very worth it.   - Lilbitodisneycrazy  221.0 #1795 1:34PM
Holy moly! Four hours! Oy vey. Anything to see the joy on my little's face though. Thanks for the information! - MackeyMouse  85.8 #3957 1:45PM
We did the same thing.  We walked up at the end of Soundsational and saved a spot in the shade.  We waited  over 4.5 hours for Paint the Night, but had a ton of fun with the people around us.  After it was over they moved us into the street for viewing.  That part was awful.  We were crammed in like sardines and so my kids could not see.  We couldn't see either because everyone was holding up their phones to record everything.  Next time we are going to wait in front of the castle. - 1Princess3Princes  643.7 #335 4:27PM
On Saturday I sat right in front of the castle at 7pm. I was with my 3 girls and used two beach towels to save our places.  We were able to see PTN because everyone stayed sitting down.  It was awesome.  I didn't think we'd be able to see it but we did.  The fireworks were my favorite by far!!!!! - mommy2cvc  296.5 #995 6:05PM

So I'm planning our August trip, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where to stay. We normally stay at one of the resort hotels, but the prices right now are crazy. I know a lot of people like the Howard Johnsons, but our kids are preteens. It seems to cater to the younger kids. Any thoughts?

What kind of price range and will you want to walk, park, or take a hotel shuttle?  We love staying on property, but it is very expensive--can only do it once every few years.  We stayed at Embassy Suites a few times when we first started visiting DL (2005, I think).  We loved it--free breakfast and free happy hour (wine, beer, and a few simple drinks for adults, sodas and Shirley temples for kids, and popcorn for everyone).  I stayed there as a teen with my parents and thought it was fun.  But, it is not walking distance.  We have used Priceline in recent years and been placed at Marriott Suites (on Harbor, not walking distance), Holiday Inn (by M&F parking, walking distance) and Red Lion (on Harbor, walking distance).  All were clean and easy, but nothing special in terms of ambiance/experience.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  648.0 #332 2:44PM
you say free happy hour?!?!?! Wow!! I need to check that out!! - brodysmommy  453.9 #515 2:57PM

you will not mess up with embassy suites! ooh i love that brand... coz of FREE BFAST and HAPPY HOUR!!! Too bad, their hotel is way far of a walk to the parks - otilegna  2806.2 #53 6:12PM

We just got back and stayed at Springhill Suites on Ball Rd.  Walked everyday, about a 15 minute walk.  We loved this hotel and free breakfast. - dsnylvrlv  5.2 #19178 5:38PM
We usually stay at Red Lion about a mile away, but easy walking.  Breakfast buffet included with really good bacon.  We've also stayed at Carousel Inn and Suites for convenience of being across from main gate. Have found both for less than $150 a night - duckymomo  48.7 #5041 5:43PM

Fantasmic Dinning Package. I did the River Belle Terrace Fantasmic dinning Tuesday and thought it was great! The food was fine but having reserved seating front and center was amazing! Blue Bayou & River Belle dining passes are in the same area. Great view of the show. I would do it again.

I have a friend who does it every trip she makes to town- I will have to try it one of these days. Thanks for the review! - missariel33  2115.6 #81 6:30PM
It really is worth it! Great view and relaxing to not have to worry about getting a good seat.  - BRabbit  796.3 #253 6:33PM
I'm still confused. Is it sitting in chairs, sitting on the ground, or standing?  What's the difference between RB and BB? - Taunton  1604.5 #115 6:32PM
Sitting on the ground. BB is better food, more expensive, and you get a cushion to sit on. Seating area is the same. The area is not packed and everyone is required to sit, so everyone can see.  - BRabbit  796.3 #253 6:36PM
We did the Fantasmic dining pkg last Thursday @ the Blue Bayou. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was worth the price paid.  - BibbidiBobbidiBoo  113.6 #3452 8:32PM
We're going in July and have made reservations at the Blue Bayou and we're getting the fantasmic dining package! We also decided to do the WOC dinning package at Wine Country.  We are so excited!  - Nikki3Mous3  157.6 #2678 10:44PM

Mac the Truck from Paint the Night Parade...11pm showing...great opportunity to find an awesome view and vantage point to see the show :-)

we watched the 11pm and had the BEST viewing away from Main Street more towards IASW. Loads of personal interaction and I wasn't bombarded by people like I was on Main Street. I'm obsessed! - missmimi90  2034.3 #86 11:51AM

Great shotπŸ˜„ How early did you get your seats before the parade? - cassidylovesaladdin  30.8 #0 2:36AM
Thank you...our family stayed to watch the 11pm performance last night...we walked to Town Square about fifteen minutes before showtime and secured a great spot. There was a crowd but not the sea of humanity like the first show is. It seems to be the "new normal" for nights at Disneyland will be if one wants to view the fireworks from Main Street you have to watch the first night parade and secure a spot early...right after the 4:30pm Soundsational...nights at Disney will certainly change now with all the new nighttime entertainment offerings. - uscdisneyteacher  8701.7 #10 9:27AM

One of the places to relax today! Finding Nemo Observation Deck! 😍

The observation deck is such a blessing 😍 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  648.0 #332 8:37AM
So tell me about this, pretty please? I never knew it existed until I started playing Trivilator.  How do you get to it?  What's it like?  Thank you πŸ‘πŸ‘ - Moog  97.2 #3734 8:41AM
Ask a CM monitoring the line for access. It's a dark room with a video screen playing the same video you'd see in the submarine. It's a blessing for scared kids! - MackeyMouse  85.8 #3957 8:47AM
You can ask a CM at the line, and they will lead you over.  It's basically a room with a screen that shows what you see out the submarine window on the ride.  It's so nice.  I hadn't been in the subs in years before I found out about this.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  648.0 #332 8:49AM
Think it's also used for people with mobility issues. I walk with braces and crutches, but haven't tried the ride yet... I'll know to ask for observation deck for next time in Dec. - Catski23  30.9 #6172 9:32AM

To regulate over crowding Disney does a few things: Level 1: Normal entry and re-entry to the park Level 2: The park stops selling admission tickets (about 60,000 guests) Pass Holders and pre purchased tickets are still allowed entry. Level 3: Admission only to hotel guest and readmission, with hand stamp for Pass and ticket holders. (about 75,000) Level 4: Close the park no one enters the park. (  More...

Question: as an AP holder are you guys receiving info/invitations about special events and such in the mail?? If not how do you find out about these?

i look at the facebook/disneyland annual passholders page.  and the disney parks blog. - MsTikiMermadam  1459.3 #128 2:14PM
Thank you! - magicalflash  43.9 #5243 9:47AM
I have been a AP holder for years and have not received anything about special events. Maybe because I'm a deluxe pass holder and not premium   - palomine96  20.6 #7595 11:08AM
I am a premium pass holder and have never received anything. Wondering how everyone else who is finds out.  - magicalflash  43.9 #5243 11:11AM
