Eat outside the park before going in. There doesn't seem to be a lot of food available during the trick or treat. Some of the restaurants are treat stations. Plus... Too busy trying to get to treat stations, parade, fireworks etc. Personally we go to Earl's. I feel like I get a nice meal for the price, and full enough to close out the park.  - Sugarbuzz  207.4 #1831 12:00PM

We're here for our only summer visit and I want to be sure the little gets fabulous viewing for fireworks tonight. Suggestions? The plan it to catch Paint the Night and then stay put for fireworks. (I'm not opposed to saving a spot while the husband runs around with her, if that's what it takes) Thanks for the tips!

we started waiting around 1:15ish yesterday. Thanks to @MickeyLumboCM . It was AWESOME & SPECTACULAR  - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5460.8 #17 5:49PM
The hubs has vetoed waiting so long. Boo :( - MackeyMouse  79.9 #3813 5:59PM
The fire works start right after paint the night. As soon as paint the night is over they have everyone move into the middle of main street.  When we were there on June 3-5 we had to save our spot on mainstreet directly after the soundsational parade. We waited four hours taking turns saving the spot.  It was very worth it.   - Lilbitodisneycrazy  221.0 #1656 1:34PM
Holy moly! Four hours! Oy vey. Anything to see the joy on my little's face though. Thanks for the information! - MackeyMouse  79.9 #3813 1:45PM
We did the same thing.  We walked up at the end of Soundsational and saved a spot in the shade.  We waited  over 4.5 hours for Paint the Night, but had a ton of fun with the people around us.  After it was over they moved us into the street for viewing.  That part was awful.  We were crammed in like sardines and so my kids could not see.  We couldn't see either because everyone was holding up their phones to record everything.  Next time we are going to wait in front of the castle. - 1Princess3Princes  488.4 #403 4:27PM
On Saturday I sat right in front of the castle at 7pm. I was with my 3 girls and used two beach towels to save our places.  We were able to see PTN because everyone stayed sitting down.  It was awesome.  I didn't think we'd be able to see it but we did.  The fireworks were my favorite by far!!!!! - mommy2cvc  195.4 #1983 6:05PM
Yeah, we waited 4 hours, but that also meant we got a bench.  By 5 I think all the benches were taken already. - dianeburns1998  52.7 #4448 6:23PM

So I'm planning our August trip, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where to stay. We normally stay at one of the resort hotels, but the prices right now are crazy. I know a lot of people like the Howard Johnsons, but our kids are preteens. It seems to cater to the younger kids. Any thoughts?

What kind of price range and will you want to walk, park, or take a hotel shuttle?  We love staying on property, but it is very expensive--can only do it once every few years.  We stayed at Embassy Suites a few times when we first started visiting DL (2005, I think).  We loved it--free breakfast and free happy hour (wine, beer, and a few simple drinks for adults, sodas and Shirley temples for kids, and popcorn for everyone).  I stayed there as a teen with my parents and thought it was fun.  But, it is not walking distance.  We have used Priceline in recent years and been placed at Marriott Suites (on Harbor, not walking distance), Holiday Inn (by M&F parking, walking distance) and Red Lion (on Harbor, walking distance).  All were clean and easy, but nothing special in terms of ambiance/experience.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  600.0 #318 2:44PM
you say free happy hour?!?!?! Wow!! I need to check that out!! - brodysmommy  410.0 #507 2:57PM

you will not mess up with embassy suites! ooh i love that brand... coz of FREE BFAST and HAPPY HOUR!!! Too bad, their hotel is way far of a walk to the parks - otilegna  2181.5 #64 6:12PM
Our favorites are the Anabella and Marriott and Sheraton. - 1Princess3Princes  488.4 #403 4:02PM
We just got back and stayed at Springhill Suites on Ball Rd.  Walked everyday, about a 15 minute walk.  We loved this hotel and free breakfast. - dsnylvrlv  5.2 #17088 5:38PM
We usually stay at Red Lion about a mile away, but easy walking.  Breakfast buffet included with really good bacon.  We've also stayed at Carousel Inn and Suites for convenience of being across from main gate. Have found both for less than $150 a night - duckymomo  44.2 #4762 5:43PM

Sitting on the ground. BB is better food, more expensive, and you get a cushion to sit on. Seating area is the same. The area is not packed and everyone is required to sit, so everyone can see.  - BRabbit  581.2 #327 6:36PM

Thank you...our family stayed to watch the 11pm performance last night...we walked to Town Square about fifteen minutes before showtime and secured a great spot. There was a crowd but not the sea of humanity like the first show is. It seems to be the "new normal" for nights at Disneyland will be if one wants to view the fireworks from Main Street you have to watch the first night parade and secure a spot early...right after the 4:30pm Soundsational...nights at Disney will certainly change now with all the new nighttime entertainment offerings. - uscdisneyteacher  7607.5 #7 9:27AM

Riverbell is now FP dining only for dinner. The Riverbell seating area is along the water. Typically they can get you out of the dining area in an hour on average. So the seating is worth it for the river belle? And how early do they make you line up and do we not get to choose between 9pm or 10:45 Fantasmic? Do you just get what you get and don't throw a fit - haha! - TinkerSchelle  1776.3 #86 5:12PM
Usually they pick the 9:00 show for the dining reservations depending on how many dining guests there are.  - BaseballMickey_CM  7103.1 #9 7:15PM
And has anyone found the menu? I can't find it online for the 3 course dinner options (going with picky eaters) - TinkerSchelle  1776.3 #86 5:15PM
One more question. Is there no actual seating for Fantasmic?  Is it all standing up, like WOC is?  I would love to know all these answers, too! - MeridaFan  3577.5 #36 6:38PM
Yes it's similar to WOC but the viewing areas have more elbow room than WOC.  - BaseballMickey_CM  7103.1 #9 7:10PM
Can you sit if you want? - TinkerSchelle  1776.3 #86 12:47AM
Certain parts of yellow section, sometimes certain parts of blue section, and all of Blue Bayou/Riverbelle are sitting. - CM_Shadowgamer  2467.9 #49 1:46AM

so my family is going to disneyland in December again! we normally stay at the Fairfield in right outside but wanted to get some more opinions on other hotels to stay at, also if they have shuttles or needed. And Go... (-:3

We love the Howard Johnson. If you have an AP, you receive a 20% off of most rooms. Clean and great staff. About an 8 min walk to the parks.  - palomine96  20.5 #6743 1:48PM
Free parking and wifi! I have have stays booked here throughout the year.  - LuvsTigger  1497.3 #101 2:57PM
We love staying at the carousel inn which is about a 5 min walk to the parks!!!  - DCMAGurl  178.8 #2197 1:55PM
i like the tropicana inn and carousel inn.  tropicana has let me pay to park the day i checked out,  so i didn't have to deal with disney parking.    they have a small but nice pool and hot tub. - MsTikiMermadam  368.9 #578 6:40PM
I stayed there last Thursday, nice staff and early check in (I checked in at noon). Carousel is same company and equally nice since they are directly across the street. - ShariRenee  6274.1 #14 6:56PM

Does anyone know what the name of the new hotel being built across from the hojo and behind Mimi's Cafe?

If it's the one I'm thinking of its a Courtyard Waterpark HotelΒ  http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/snadt-courtyard-anaheim-theme-park-entrance/ - PirateHairNerd  401.1 #521 10:04PM
Wow--that looks like a pretty kick-ass hotel! - Diz_Mel  96.0 #3547 11:09PM
is it an extension of an already existing hotel or is it new altogether? - TrueFromOzLovesDisney  474.8 #420 9:29PM
It's a new one. Actually there are two. The one farther back is a Holiday Inn Express. Not sure what the closer one is.  - IDVandalSkipperCM  2377.5 #53 9:36PM
We stay at the hojo and was wondering the same thing - palomine96  20.5 #6743 11:06PM
