Oswald was given back to Disney in exchange for letting popular sportscaster Al Michaels out of a long term contract with ESPN which is owned by Disney. This allowed Universal to hire him as part of the trade. This made a lot of sense for Disney because ABC and ESPN lost the broadcast rights for the NFL which was Michaels area of expertise. Universal still owns the Oswald cartoons that weren't created by Walt himself however. - dough 128.2 #2607 2:08AM
