I heard if u go to guest sercvices or whatever its called you gey a pass...its for people with disabilities n the sort...so you can go tohead of line....and ADD/ Adhd would quazlify....
Princess, I'm sad to inform you that a lot of folks had some levels of ADD as kids, and even todays children as well. The problem is they aren't being diagnosed correctly. I grew up with ADHD and still suffer some side affects of it. They had me hopped up on so much Ritalin as a child, that when they finally took me off of it at 14 years old, I had to miss nearly 2 weeks of school due to withdrawal. But medications have vastly advanced since the 80's and early 90's. But when my parents took me to DL, the key was to keep me occupied while in line for a ride. Magazines/books, some toys, a handheld game. Guest assistance should really be saved for people who can’t traverse stairs, folks in wheelchairs, real “debilitating” disabilities. And people who goto Disneyland should go knowing that it’s a place that children love to be, and children will be children. They throw tantrums, they get side tracked, they love to play with the chains in the lines, they are bound to climb on things. ADD and ADHD sucks and can amplify these actions, but it’s no reason to let them think that they can’t function with regular society by getting a pass that let’s them get on rides faster. - TheBudd  357.3 #397 4:26PM
And I would also like to point out the one of the reasons I goto DL and love it is to see the reactions of the children there. It takes me back. If a child is overly excited, it just reminds me of how I was, and how blessed I was to have parents who were willing to deal with it. My own son is not even three yet, and is showing severe signs of ADHD. It's a rough road, can be bumpy in teenage years, but I wish you the best. - TheBudd  357.3 #397 4:32PM
Disneyland doesn't have the same stance as you that GAC's should be saved only for those with physical disabilities. They also issue them to people who suffer anxiety, claustrophobia, etc. - Mimmy  1405.6 #57 4:33PM
@Sidney, true, most the meds for ADD cause increased metabolism, lol. I ate SOOOO much and was rail thin. But the Ritalin stunted my growth. At 14, I was 5'10. That's when my parents decided it was time to stop the Ritalin. By 15, I was 6'1. It was a painful year. My body was catching up with all the growing it should have been doing all along because I come from a tall family. - TheBudd  357.3 #397 4:35PM
@Mimmy, yes, those are "debilitating" disabilities. But if people just don't use some moral reasoning, pretty soon there's going to be no reason for the GAC because those poor people with the real problems are going to stuck in a line with people who are just impatient. - TheBudd  357.3 #397 4:37PM
I'd hardly say her requesting a GAC is immoral. If Disneyland doesn't feel she has a valid reason, they wouldn't issue her one. If people lie and obtain them when they don't really need them, that's a different situation entirely. Based on our knowledge of what Disney issues them for, she does qualify. - Mimmy  1405.6 #57 4:41PM
Well the morality thing was thrown loosely. I try to mousewait fast so my wife doesn't start yelling at me, lol. I just really don't like that ADD or ADHD is getting thrown in like it's a debilitating disorder. It's not. In fact, we retain ALOT. We are extremely creative, opinionated, and self-reliant. Most of us just don't like to be told what to do. We are leaders. And our parents need to realize that. "Sorry Mom, I was just born this way, love me or hate me, but I am the way I am." It's no reason to basically lump us with people with real disorders that can cause them to lash out or have a panic attack in public. - TheBudd  357.3 #397 4:54PM
Sidney, if you know enough about the subject, you'd know that ADD is nothing compared to ADHD. The real problem is people who pamper people with these disorders. They are learning disorders, and do not physical debilitate us. We are able to function just fine with normal society as long as someone takes the step forward to teach us. It's not impossible, it's just taxing. - TheBudd  357.3 #397 5:03PM
It's still stress, and it can be debilitating to the body. - theDebsterM  138.2 #2474 5:17PM
This is a real taboo subject on here. It's up to you as a parent to figure out how severe the need for the pass is.y daughter has Autism and our trips to the parks used to be miserable. She would panic in the confined line space and most of the time she and I would sit out the ride. Plumie told us about the GAC and its amazing our trips to the parks have done a 360. We still have to wait in line, but we are in a more open area and she tolerates it much better. Thus allowing all of us to enjoy the attractions as a family. And if other people have a problem with it that's too darn bad. Live one day in the life of a parent with a special needs child. I bet your view of the GAC pass changes. - Mrsblue  692.4 #146 2:01AM
That took to long! - DisneyTim  12.9 #6065 5:17AM
I skimmed the posts above.. all you can do is ask at city hall and they will ask you questions about the severity of his problem and make a decision. If no, then take him to tom sawyer's island to wear him out a little, then go on the short time rides like snow white, tea cups, etc. Try to go on low crowd days or nights. A littleplanning really helps. I have an autistic who can be a handful. You can also come along with us but many times the wait is still 20- 30 minutes sometimes. - Plumiegirl  3350.5 #10 5:32PM
I was thinking the same thing... and here we are. I hope everyone has an absolutely amazing and magical day! - melissa_ficent  317.9 #532 6:59AM
I am allowed to give extra time for homework and for exams. I had a student last year who enrolled in our school and, somehow, her designation as a resource student was lost along the way. I requested that the SPEd department test her and found that she needed resource help. Those things can happen. - sr citizen space ranger  48.9 #3780 4:56PM
