Oh Hai - So I am trying to wrap my brain around the WDW Dinning Plan and would love to hear the input of MW. I have read some blogs and forums where some hoodlums have posted BUT I trust you guys more so please share if you have done it, and your thoughts. Thanks!
The last two trips I have been to WDW, my family and I decided not to do the DDP. Well, I do get a discount at most of the sit down restaurants and some of the QSR restaurants, but we liked to have that flexibility when choosing our meals. This way, we didn't have to worry about tracking and using our credits after each meal and may end up with credits we didn't use if someone didn't feel like eating their full portion of the DDP plan. But, if you really like to eat a lot, the DP is good because on some of the plans for dinner, each person gets an appetizer, entree, dessert and drink for each meal (and that's just dinner). - BaseballMickey_CM  6000.7 #13 12:53PM
Thank you for responding:) I guess this year with the 2013 plan they cut out the appetizer! I am just been so lost in it all... i feel it would be a nice way to experience some of the nicer hotel but like you said with your family worry we will feel like we are stuck to a schedule also. Thank you so much for your input! - BooEve123  800.9 #191 1:00PM
Totally agree! We've gone without DDP on all trips and we've been very happy. You have to eat a LOT to make the meal plan worth it. We averaged less than 60/day for two average eaters - and that was still splurging on snacks and stuff. We like the variety that being off DDP allows. - Lola027  450.3 #413 1:04PM
@Boo You can still enjoy some of the restaurants and the nicer hotels without the plan. We tried the Grand Floridian Cafe and the prices weren't that more than the in-park sit down restaurants. It was very peaceful and nice to get away from the park for a couple hours. We just took the 15 minute monorail ride to the hotel from Magic Kingdom. - BaseballMickey_CM  6000.7 #13 1:12PM
I have not used the plan either & each of my trips has been 7 plus days. Really loved the option of going where we wanted especially with all of the wonderful dining options including DTD. Plan options didn't really work for us but I know many others who loved it! - ShariRenee  4070.3 #22 4:10PM
It is worth doing if you really like to try different dining options and plan to eat in places other than the quick service meals. There are a lot of really good dining options at WDW! If you like to sit down and take time out of the day to eat it might be great for you. We don't like to use that much time and find that the quick service options were just as yummy and took less time away from attractions. - AKMouse  441.3 #421 1:00PM
yes! what AKMouse said. i also like that it will force my family to sit down and take time out of the day to eat, relax, talk, and think about what we did that day/what we want to do later because otherwise we would just continually be running around. - nicoleface  1746.7 #71 1:08PM
i am going for the first time in march with my family and we decided to do the dining plan because we would rather pay for all our meals in advance (we really wanted to pay our whole trip in advance, not guestimate how much we would spend on food). we got the regular dining plan which is 1 snack, 1 quick-service, and 1 table-service meal. the only problem is for your table service meals you really need to book in advance. about 3 weeks ago i finished reading the unofficial guide to walt disney world, and then figured out our schedule more or less. i needed to know what park we would be at on what day so i could make reservations. sure enough, at least 1/2 of the places i've booked have already filled up. so it's not so nice that you can't really be flexible but i also like that it gave us some sort of schedule to adhere to. we can't wander off somewhere because we're having dinner at a certain park that night. i also like that table-service also includes a lot of character dining! we're doing 3 of them and can't wait. i'll let you know how it goes! - nicoleface  1746.7 #71 1:07PM
Yah i was thinking that would be challenging if we wanted to eat in parks i would need to know where we are planning on going...hmmmmm thanks for input doll! - BooEve123  800.9 #191 3:27PM

So just short of me calling to cancel my honeymoon trip to DL, can someone please give me a current list of planned rehab closures during the time of November 11th-18th. I've seen Casey Jr. and the Storybook Canal will be closed through the 14th. Indy is set to be closed the full time, and now I've read that Thunder Mountain will be closed as well? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
seriously??!! There is so much in the parks to see than just those attractions. When rides are renovated or fixed it is usually low crowd time and you can see all the great shows, run tom sawyers island, ride all the small kid rides (classic) and don't forget DCA which is like a new park. I know you are from Florida I&M but there is plenty see and do here even with closures. - Plumiegirl  7817.4 #3 1:34PM

Well some of us can't go all the time, but when we do, we like to experience everything. - Disneylovesmoi  9.7 #9263 2:02PM
I can't go all the time, I'm in NorCal. I don't think there is a huge amount of time, when everything is open. Just how it is for big theme parks. But there's always SO much to do! :) 😊 - DisneyFanZoe  1106.9 #129 2:29PM
The only time everything is really open is when it's really crowded in summer - MarshaMouse  3936.7 #24 3:15PM
Just my two cents, but I would go anyways. I can understand you wanting to be sure Indy is open, since you've planned your trip around being able to show Marion. But Cars Land and RSR is truly amazing. You may be pleasantly surprised at how awesome it really is. I didn't think I'd care for it and now Cars Land is one of the places I can't wait to visit first when I go to the parks. And I'd go with IDVandalSkipper on the Big Thunder refurb timing being in January. I highly doubt they'd close two major attractions at the same time within the same park. Also, Holiday time is magical at DL. :) - Alicewhoareyou  1021.3 #145 2:52PM
Wait Casey Jr. is going to be closed soon? - HanLostLeia  1096.2 #131 9:47PM
They need to bring back that second train though!!! It's been forever!! - MarshaMouse  3936.7 #24 10:40PM
I'm so sorry! Indy is my favorite ride, and I would be so bummed to hear it's closed during my vacation! I would definitely venture into DCA. The new Buena Vista Street is really beautiful, and Cars Land is really well done. RSR is not like Test Track despite what others may say. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for you. :P Also, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree is the sleeper hit of Cars Land in my opinion. Christmas time is beautiful in DL, and you'll be on your honeymoon! That's always a positive! I'm sorry you can't reschedule, but I know you'll make the best of it and have a wonderful vacation! :D - thelittlestmouse  90.4 #65 10:27PM

There have been a lot of Disney fact posts lately-so why not do a Disney fact thread! They are always fun when new people enter the what's your favorite Disney fact?
The fact that the old man playing the banjo in Pirates is not some random old man. He is actually A pirate named Jean Laffite. He hid in the Lousiana swamp lands and that's also why the loading dock is called "Laffite's Landing" 😊 - AshleyLynn22  791.2 #194 9:43AM

=) - UncoolBunny  71.0 #3808 11:30AM
And the ride, well before they put all the movie stuff in, is a journey through his memories of being a pirate. When you go down the first drop, you are supposed to be descending into his mind and he appears several other places during the ride. The story is also tied in with Haunted Mansion, that's why the weather vane is a ship. - CMJenKWorth  125.0 #2935 11:36AM
Oh my gosh! So cool. Where else does he appear in the ride? - BlackCanary86  51.2 #4278 11:48AM
Between these two rides there was supposed to be a crypt. You can still see the top arch of the would be doorway along the wall/bench/sidewalk dividers (don't know how to describe it) between potc and hm. it has a date on top of the arch - Pixarprincess  539.3 #319 11:50AM
I did not know that. Cool - cesium55  531.6 #329 11:51AM
Absolutely correct. It was going to be a tunnel walkway thing linking the attractions into one story. The date is the birth year of the imagineer who came up with it minus 200 years I believe. Every attraction in the parks has a story tied to it. The mansion one is very interesting. - CMJenKWorth  125.0 #2935 11:53AM
I've read so much into Pirates! This has to be my favorite thing! I love it!! - AshleyLynn22  791.2 #194 12:13PM
Really?! I had no idea! He still creeps me out, there is banjo music but no banjo.... Also I alway feel like he is watching me like a crazy stalker.... - tiggertwin  329.5 #649 12:58PM
I'd love to hear the haunted mansion story! Can anyone send it to me? - AshleyLynn22  791.2 #194 1:48PM
The Haunted Mansion story goes that The pirate Capt. Blood built the mansion for his wife and she made him promise to never go out to sea again. He told her that he had to go one last time and he was gone for a long time. When he finally came back they got into a big argument and he ended up killing her. Not sure if he killed her accidentally or out of rage. Well, he was so distraught over her death that it's rumored he hung himself in the gallery.. This is why there is a ship weathervane and the picture of the ship in the portrait hall, and also obviously the hanging man in the gallery is Capt. Blood. =) Disney has added stuff with the bride in the attic and killing her husbands and stuff.. but this is one of the original stories. Enjoy! - CMJenKWorth  125.0 #2935 2:00PM
Very cool :-) - LAFDWifey  81.5 #3626 2:05PM

I've always wondered if there was something going on with that guy! Thanks for sharing! - DisneylAndy  205.6 #1783 4:19PM
Huh. I always heard that the bride's death was caused by her overprotective father. When the sailor was gone at sea, he came in as she was trying on her wedding dress. He lied to her, telling her that the captain died at sea. She killed herself, then when the captain came back and heard of the news, he hung himself. - snowwannab  674.2 #243 8:19PM
