It's a celebration of how people used to dress up to go to DL. People are supposed to dress nicer rather than casual as a throwback. - LilSterner

Thinking about going to DL this comeing monday, anybody know how busy the park usually is on martin luther kings bday is? Crowds dont bother me so much, but a lil intimidated taking my kids by myself if its super busy
I don't think it'll be super busy. Usually if students have holidays on Mondays, they go on the Friday, Saturday, or Sunday before because Monday night would be a school night. Last minute homework catching up to do! :) - Jenniferr

Some schools have what they call "ski week", but I think it's usually in Feb around Lincoln/Washingon bdays. As for this Monday, it's a holiday so I'd expect weekend-like crowds. - Mimmy
