Good morning! This day in Disney history, June 23rd, The Skyway to Fantasyland and Skyway to Tomorrowland opened. Along with The Enchanted Tiki Room and the re-themed Tarzans Treehouse.1956: The Skyway to Fantasyland and Skyway to Tomorrowland. Walt heard of a system being tested in Switzerland in 1955 and of course HAD to have one! A  More...

I rode the skyway and definitely miss it but I feel like there are more pressing things to refurb and bring back ::ahem ALL of tomorrowland lol:: I love the Tiki room!!!! but I do wish it was still a restaurant and I remember before Aladdins oasis too! As for the treehouse I have mixed feelings- Love Tarzan and I like the refresh/redo but I miss classic Disney. And there is not enough homage paid to Walts live action films in my opinion in either park. Swiss family Robinson was the last vestige to his his 100% live action movie Β legacy.Β Thank you Duchess!!! Ps that first pic of Walt is 😍 - missariel33  2073.1 #66 12:13PM
Oh and  - missariel33  2073.1 #66 12:14PM
hi missariel33! ::giggles:: I guess it wouldn't really fit into Tomorrowland if they brought back all the old attractions though would it? ☺️ But I too loved all of em! Wish there was more room on the property so that could add a "Yesterland" with all the retired attractions of the past! THAT would be amazing! I agree with you, classic Disney will always be my favorite but I understand their need to be fresh and current. 😊 Thank YOU for answering my questions! Aβž• for you too!! So glad you enjoyed the pics! 😘 I just noticed Disneyland Twitter used the same photo on their tweet a little bit ago. πŸ˜‰ - Duchess_SMK  6040.9 #15 12:23PM
Yes! Duchess_SMK New is great! Can't wait to see what tomorrowland is going to be like once they incorporate all of the star war sand marvel! So exciting😁😁 - missariel33  2073.1 #66 12:45PM
Yes I rode the sky Buckets  But really remember the ones that held 4 people. And going through Matterhorn. I do miss them the view was spectacular.  The Tiki room has great memories. Still does. The Tree house was special because I loved the movie. My knees won't climb Tarzan's anymore. Love the history.  Absolutely fascinating. Like your take. missariel33.  - suzieq65  39.2 #4963 2:44PM

Means a lot to me! 😘 - Duchess_SMK  6040.9 #15 7:03PM
Always enjoyed the Sky Ride. I remember one night we took it over the Electric Parade; wish I had pictures. And always enjoy the Tiki Room; didn't know about the restaurant either. Favorite part was always the talking totems. And I remember the Tahitian Terrace. Think I've posted before about being scared of being dragged down to join the hula dancers.  😞 Β Another great post - you continue batting 1.000! - redsoxcarlos  1767.0 #81 7:24PM
Oh wow! Bet that was an incredible view! ☁️☁️☁️ β˜οΈβ›…οΈ  The totems are SO entertaining! Teehee I hadn't heard the story about being afraid of the hula dancers. πŸ˜‚ Thanks for sharing! You are very kind! - Duchess_SMK  6040.9 #15 7:20AM

I really like the Matterhorn poster. How cool would it be if the ride was actually like that! Remove the wheels, remove the rails. Make it a water flume up and down the mountain with patches of ice inside the mountain! - Did you notice the Omnibus in the overhead photo of Alice? Makes me wonder if the vehicles ever left Main Street? Wonderful post, Teach, great job! Thank you. - jacdanfan  8888.6 #5 9:42AM

Good morning! This busy day in Disneyland history, May 28th, 1960: "The Mine Train Through Natures Wonderland" opened in Frontierland & “The Art of Animation” building opened in Tomorrowland. 1966: "It’s A Small World" opened in Fantasyland! Previously know as "  More...

I was one of those children that opened Small World.  I have posted that before, but that brought lots of memories back.  I met Walt, shook his hand and he spoke to each of us.  I didn't want to wash my hand, and I won't say how old I was, but very little!  It meant a lot even at that age I guess?  My voice is also on the 45 that we made with the Sherman Brothers in a studio that was sold at the parks.  I believe the 45 says it was recorded by a children's choir, which was us.  We were the International Children's Choir from Long Beach.  I was a soloist when we sang the song and I represented Columbia, and sang in Spanish, which I still remember.  Kind of feels special to be a part of such an iconic part of Disneyland.  Thanks for posting these, as always! - snowwannab  728.9 #238 6:57PM
I remember you posting that and I'm so happy you brought it up again! Seriously the coolest thing I think I've read on one of my posts! So so amazing! What a cool peace of history! Thanks again!! Loved reading that! πŸ˜πŸ’— - Duchess_SMK  6040.9 #15 8:38PM

Snowwannab what an incredible experience for you to be a part of! Must be a fantastic memory! :) - Bunnie  466.8 #430 10:12PM
Wonderful post. Yes I did ride the mine trains, many times, loved it. By favorite part of a Small World is the Eiffel Tower. There is a doll half way up the tower that represents Mary Blair. The doll is dressed in Blair's typical fashion of the day. - jacdanfan  8888.6 #5 10:42AM
Thank you for answering all of my questions! Aβž•πŸ˜˜  I'll have to look for that doll next trip! Thanks for adding that!  - Duchess_SMK  6040.9 #15 11:16AM
The doll is difficult to see, it is somewhat dark and you have to pass the tower and look back over your shoulder. - jacdanfan  8888.6 #5 12:55PM
thank! I'll be looking!  - Duchess_SMK  6040.9 #15 5:21PM
Great to know, I'll be looking for that too, wish it was placed just a tiny bit more prominent tho - Bunnie  466.8 #430 10:14PM
The train stopping for the fireworks sounds really great! I would have loved to see that as described. Great post! QC! - Tom  8987.3 #3 8:07PM

Thank you @@Duchess_SMK! I know these take a ton of work and I really missed them whilst you were so busy with the new baby!  I always learn something I did not know or remember something that I experienced!
