Finally remembered to snap a pic of this on our trip, Sunday. Can't remember the story behind it , though. Just think its neat :)
Googled answer (source: disney-pal.com): "The answer to the mystery lies in plans that never were realized. Kevin Yee's book 101 things you never knew about Disneyland reveals upgrade plans for a walkthrough cavern and tunnel connecting New Orleans Square and Tom Sawyer's Island.
The "plot" being that a pirate who owned the Haunted Mansion for a time had buried treasure underneath the river and sealed up the entrance with bricks and a curse...
Unfortunately the planned update never happened, but this bricked up arch still remains... - SergZak

Sorry not a good pic. But I was going through my grandmas jewelry box that was given to me a few years ago on her passing. I came across this pin for the 30 year anniversary. I remember that year I won a free ticket too. They were silver with burgundy lettering.

We love to go by Small World because while you don't see the Castle stuff really, it is the closest you get to the main fireworks, its a great view and best of all, its really not very crowded... - CVDisneyland
