Hey all, I posted this originally without logging in, oops. Anyway, we are going to the parks Sat-Monday! Anything we MUST do while we are there this time of year? Also, is it worth it to get to that sandwich place in DTD? Hope to see some of you around the parks and say hi! :)
hi! This is the last weekend to see the Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue in Frontierland. Also, the Lunar New Year celebration starts at the Pacific Wharf this weekend in DCA and the Bayou Bash in NOS is still going. Yes, Earl of Sandwich is good. if you search Earl of Sandwich in the search bar, you'll find several reviews from fellow MWers - BaseballMickey_CM  2859.4 #16 11:27AM
Oh great, thank you! Sounds interesting, I have not heard of the Lunar New Year celebration or Bayou Bash! - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 11:43AM
RSR is a must Get there early for fast passes for your favorite attractions. Earl of Sandwich is so-so, save your money and go to ToGo's. It's busy with long lines and no discount if you have an ap like food in the parks. Whitewater inside the Grand California is a great place for lunch or breakfast. Go to Trader Sam's at the DL Hotel or The Cove Bar in DCA for drinks. they also have great food. Ride the Lillybelle, Captain the Mark Twain and be sure to get a map from your Jungle Cruise skipper. - splashphotoCM  880.9 #101 11:33AM
Happy birthday leopardditz2000! Thanks for all the suggestions. Earl of Sandwich was delicious! Got to do all the rides we wanted too ;) - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 2:51PM

Our trip is being postponed from Dec 21-24 due to money issues now boo :( but we're going Feb 1 and Grand Cali is the same price that paradise pier would have been for us in Dec! Anyone know how the crowds may be at that time? Anything closed? Thanks! Love you all xoxo
BTMRR will be closed. If you do a search for refurbishments on here, someone just posted a long list of updated closures for the next couple of months. As for crowds, that should be a good time to go! Not a lot of families take vacation time then. - IDVandalSkipperCM  1297.4 #63 6:28PM
The park will be much less busy that time of year. - MyPark  944.4 #91 6:33PM

Found these cute eos brand chap sticks at Walgreens today, Alice in Wonderland theme with hidden Mickey. Not sure if all eos are Disney but I'd seen people with them and thought they were pretty cool then saw Disney brand and had to have! Anyone else have these in other themes?

Hi all, I came here tonight before I went to bed to look at all your posts and smile about some Disneyland happiness. Thank you for being my happy place
Well that's weird, my post cut off half way- anyway- I was just going to ask you all for some prayers, fairy dust, or thoughts-- whatever you may call it, for my dear grammy who had a bad fall a couple of nights ago, and is on the road to recovery but in a lot of pain, she's 84. On top of that sadness we have some large egos in the family that make putting her care above everyones' feelings difficult. So if you could please pray for us. And thank you for your posts and making me smile, even though I may not know you close, I feel connected and so grateful for this site and all the wonderful people here. With all my love - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 10:19PM
Lord, thank you for letting us come to you with any request, knowing you will always here our prayers. Bless grammy and heal her, and put an extra blessing on her family, they are all scared and worried, and sometimes that is when the worst in us come out, please give them an extra peace and the direction they need to follow for grammy's best care and to help their best come out instead. In Jesus's name we pray, Amen. I have been there with family and hurt older loved ones. It usually is just the fear that she is getting older. I hope it all goes well, let us know how she is. - secretagentangel  670.0 #154 10:27PM

How far away is Paradise Pier Hotel from the parks? And how is it compared to Grand Californian and Disneyland resort? I've stayed at Grand Cali before. Thank you. Have a great weekend everyone!
You cross the street from the grand to paradise pier. A bit longer, but not bad. Paradise pier was my favorite hotel. SOFT beds!! - dsnymom2bandb  305.3 #583 5:12PM

Also anyone know how crowded it is Dec 21-24? - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 5:38PM
Very crowded - MrsSchnooks  574.8 #191 5:40PM
Crowds are high but not as bad as Christmas day through new years. - Krissy Marissy  411.0 #316 5:55PM
Im guessing Paradise Pier is about a quarter mile from the parks. You can shorten your walk by cutting though the Grad or take the Monorail in/out of DL. We went during those dates 2 years ago and it was busy but not too bad. It rained so it may have kept the crowds away. It will be busier this year because of the DCA expansion. - NikkiMickey  1583.8 #49 5:58PM
It feels less Disney because it's across the street but rooms are spacious and staff is very nice. - ShariRenee  1560.1 #50 6:13PM

Disneyland First: seeing someone get arrested outside the DL gates. 3 security and what looked like an undercover cop arresting her. Not sure why..
Tuesday a man gave security a hard time about not being able to take in his pocket knife. Then he threw it at the feet of the two cast members at check in. Security made him pick it up, place it gently on the table and suggested he apologize to the CM's for his uncalled for behavior. - bugsmom1208  211.1 #1474 10:17PM
Yikes! - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 8:44AM
He's lucky he wasn't arrested. - MyPark  944.4 #91 7:26AM
I'm guilty of taking my knife to Disneyland. It's part of what I carry with me everyday like my wallet or watch or my ID. It's force of habit to grab it and throw it in my pocket. Undercover DL security saw me walk through the bag check area with it and discretely pulled me aside and asked me to surrender it or to take it back to my car. I apologized and took it back car. - NEMFLCN  29.8 #4383 7:51AM
As well you should, NEMFLCN. And I'd like to say thank you to our DL security for keeping us all safe. - MyPark  944.4 #91 8:11AM
@MyPark,in order for that guy to get arrested he would have to committ a crime first, and from the sound of the story, it doesn't seem like he did. - NotNKansasAnymor  174.5 #1934 9:13AM
He threw the knife at the CM. Maybe not taken to jail, but could have easily been taken into custody by DL security. They were being lenient. - MyPark  944.4 #91 9:34AM
Maybe it wasn't made clear enough in the story, but when they said "threw it at the feet of the CMs" I took that to mean he threw it at the ground where they were standing. If he didn't actually hit them with it, or if he had no intent to hit them with it, there's technically no crime. The only thing they have there is him acting like an idiot. It's easy enough to kick him off their private property. - NotNKansasAnymor  174.5 #1934 2:21PM

They seem very respectful and to do their job quietly and efficiently. With the young woman I saw being arrested I couldn't hear anything like yelling and they seemed to just be surrounding her to avoid causing a scene and staying as quiet as possible - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 7:03PM

Hey all! Looking forward to being at Disney this weekend and also checking out a school for a PsyD program.. It's in West LA (Pepperine) does anyone know of any safe and decent living areas around West LA that are below the $2000 a month? I figured I'd get my Cali MWers perspective on options for living for me, the hubby and our 3 kitties! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
West LA in general is really nice, rent can go on the high side but then again you're few minutes to the beach. Good luck! Pepperdine is a beautiful campus! - MarshaMouse  2871.2 #15 8:26PM

Hey All, If I buy an annual pass online how long do you think it would take to ship to AZ, or is there a pick up at park option? Also, if I buy it online and do not receive it in time to book a DLR hotel with an AP discount, do I have a code I would get immediately when buying it online that I could use for the resort discount? Sorry kind of complicated question, thank you!!
If you buy them online you should be able to print your tickets. Theses will get you in the park on your first day. Then you go and get your real AP. also your AP year dosent start until you go through the gate for the first time. If you are looking to get the AP discount on something like Halloween tickets just call the AP phone number and they will help you with that. I bought my AP in march and went to the resort last weekend for the first time with it. But I purchased my hollow even tickets 2 weeks ago over the phone and they mailed them to me. Hope this helps. - mhpoker  261.2 #904 6:14AM
When I purchased annual passes, I did it over the phone through the Disney website, and they held our passes at the ticket booth for pick up. The day of your arrival, you just go straight to the booth, and a CM will give you your passes. :) - Alicewhoareyou  536.3 #210 12:11AM
The passes are effective on the day of the first use. - Alicewhoareyou  536.3 #210 12:12AM
Thanks! I am just hoping to get a hotel discount ahead of time with the AP... because there is a great deal with that right now. But I'm not sure that would be possible if it isn't effective until our first use... maybe if I got there, used it, and then tried to book at a DLR hotel?.. that could be risky though.. LOL. Thanks for your info. Do you know if there is a mail option? - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 12:18AM
Yes, there is a mail option but not sure how long it usually takes. But maybe call Passholder services. - Alicewhoareyou  536.3 #210 12:21AM
Thank you so much for your info! I'm excited to be an AP holder if it all works out :D. Always been a dream of mine :). - stephigo2  16.3 #5483 12:23AM
Congrats! It's a great feeling. :) - Alicewhoareyou  536.3 #210 12:24AM
Purchase the passes online, call and make your reservation. They may ask for the ap info, but perhaps they will work with you. You can suggest scanning your passes in at the gate before checking in if you really must present it at that time. - bluefairy  627.2 #174 7:19AM
I bought my AP before the price hike. Went for the first time a month later to activate it. However, my expiration date is one year from the day I purchased it. Someone please let me know if they get a different result. I'd love to get that extra month back if possible. - jugglingjeremy  211.0 #1475 4:11AM
i purchased our APs like 3 weeks before our first trip and the CM set our expiration date as the date of first use not purchase. - LolatheSlush  201.3 #1611 6:55AM

NO availability at the Disneyland Resort hotels for Labor day weekend? I know it is an EXTREMELY popular weekend, but we booked last year about 4 days before and were able to get in at the Grand Californian for Labor Day Wknd. I just tried it online, haven't called... not serious about going that weekend but have it in mind since it's my birthday. Is the system just down or do you think they're   More...
You might get lucky and find a last minute cancellation. Try other hotels around the area as well. The HoJo sponsors MW and they give discounts if you call the direct 714 number. - ScooterMike  1959.8 #35 2:15PM
