There are spots left when registration opens to the public.  You do have to be on line right when they open because it will sell out in a matter of about 30 mins.  This will be my third DL half and my 6th RunDisney race.  They have all been really fun events.
I say yes to all of the above. Train even when you don't think you can do more than a mile, then you just do a mile and some that day but get out there and do it. Push yourself to increase little by little, baby steps. Two-three short runs during week and one long one, with the long run increasing weekly. For example 4 miles this week, 5 the next and then 6 until you reach 11-12. You never truly have to run all the 13 until the actual half. If u can do 10/11 then you can do 13 easily. Increase your running ratio over time. One thing I found useful is while running, adding small spurts of increased pace in between my regular pace. Helps increase my endurance and speed. Enjoy nature while running. Looking at a tree as a spot to get to sure helps in distracting your mind from your muscles. Then spot the next spot to reach until you reach your goal for the day. Make sure you are loyal to your training and enjoy your music or the birds in the trees. It's really a great sport!  - MarshaMouse  3819.6 #24 4:32PM
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Awesome!! - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  3912.9 #23 5:36PM
If you're an annual pass holder make sure you sign up early when annual pass holders can. You literally need to be on the computer a few minutes before sign-ups open they sell out fast. Stay on-site if you can the race starts right in front of Paradise pier. As far as the race itself just have fun. Don't try to get a PR just enjoy running in Disneyland and being able to run backstage.  - MXPrincess399  632.8 #261 7:38AM
I'm not at AP holder (I live too far away). What are the odds of there being spots left when it's open to everyone? When in the year does registration usually happen? I'd really like to be able to do this race and don't want to miss out in my chance to register!! - Dopeygirl78  138.7 #2735 8:13AM
They have 4 half marathon weekends scheduled for the next year, with 5K and 10K races, as well.  The DL Half is the original race and is usually held Labor Day weekend--the last few years, registration has opened at the end of Januaryish. There's lots of ways to find out about registration.  You can go to RunDisney's webpage to see when registration opens for each race and you can also sign up for email reminders.  They also have twitter and Facebook pages.  The races sell out within a matter of hours sometimes, so you'll want to register right when it opens up to the public.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.7 #334 12:22PM
Great tips! We have tried signing up twice and sold out so fast! Can not wait to run one!  - lftmyheartatDISNEY  7.0 #0 7:27PM
they opened for regular reg a few days later ( there are only a limited number on ap days) and everything sold out withing 15 minutes except the half which took about a half an hour.  most tried for the double race and and that sold out right away.  and whether you enter now or later, there is a link on the rundisney site for jeff galloway's training plan for all kinds of races, he has trained Olympians and all the police officers for all the cop races, he is awesome.  he teaches you about slow day running, interval, speedwork, fartlek (it IS a word), rest days, diet, everything.  i have his book but he is featured as the trainer for the disney races and his training is the best I have seen out there, and it makes you want to train even on the days you don't want to train. so start slowly right now, jog walk jog walk to start if you need to  and eat something with protein prior and carbs after, it really does help.  i am signed up for august though might only get to do the smaller race but just doing one will be fun.  plus you can dress up!!!!:D - secretagentangel  1240.2 #100 7:53PM
Do they have snacks provided around the course? I'm sure they have water/drinks but I'm wondering if they provide snacks as well.  - Dopeygirl78  138.7 #2735 4:35AM
Last year, they had Cliff gel outside of Angels stadium, around mile 9 or 10, I think.  During your long training runs, you will get a feel for what your body needs.  If you find that you need more fuel than that, (or fuel sooner than that or a different kind of fuel) you should bring your own on race day.  They post the course on RunDisney, and water, fuel, and first aid stops are marked.  So, you can tailor your training based on that.           - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.7 #334 8:29AM
I don't run, but I follow a blogger/Facebook of a lady who has tons of info. It's called "my no guilt life".  It used to be called "margaritas miles and the mouse" so you can prob google either one. It is very informative. - Thumper13  352.8 #569 4:56PM

3-6 months.....We are from Utah and try and use our passes as often as we can.
Its been 2 years just this past june 15th. We had our annual passes for 3 years and live in Tucson. But we would go every chance we got, maybe 6-8 times a year. But then our minis stop appreciating it as much as they use to. They saw it as a given that we would go whenever and started complaining on our trips. So we decided to to go cold turkey and wait 2-3 years till we go again, the minis have learned there lesson and we are planning a haloween trip and will surpise them with annual passes at that point again and hopefully they will realize its a privilege to be able to go to the most wonderful place on earth.  - Firefighter_Donald  28.2 #5325 1:09PM

Or passES if more than a year...  - gobigdan  10.2 #8932 2:18AM
We didn't have passes for about 3 years.  With a small baby and very active little boy and financial problems we just couldn't do it.  Then last year we got So Cal passes and would go once a month.  Now we have premium and go at least once a month.  Some months we have spent 3 - 4 different days at the parks.  Premium has made it much more easier for us to go the parks when we feel like it.  Although more expensive it has definitely been worth it for us. - potatohead25  533.7 #325 4:48PM
We have been going at least once per month since we got our AP in October. We only live 40 minutes away and it's the ONLY place I can take my two year old where he won't melt down. When he's three we won't be able to get him a pass so we are living it up - hleclair  20.9 #6100 5:52PM

Iv'e done it past 3 years.  This will be my fourth.  Just keep training.  Last year was very hot and humid.  If its your first, don't go into this with a time goal.  Make your goal to finish the race.  Warning:  You will get hooked on RunDIsney and it will cost you $$$$$$.
Ooh!  You will have so much fun!  Plan for hot, humid conditions.  Train consistently.  Invest in good shoes and clothing (go to a specialty running store and get fit for running shoes--spending the extra money is worth it).  Know that you will have good days and bad days during your training: use the bad/meh days to empower and strengthen you.  Also know that you will need to figure out your hydration and fuel, and that can only be done through trial and error during training.  On the day of the race, follow runner etiquette and stay to the right if you are walking/slow jogging, and try to avoid zig zagging (this puts unnecessary stress on your joints and is dangerous for the people trying to run behind you).  One thing I wish I had done is run a 10k before the DL half so that I could submit proof of time to be moved to an earlier corral. Good luck!! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.7 #334 7:35PM

@spoon is brilliant as always! The runner etiquette is a must. make sure you are aware of what going on in front of you and behind you. Slower movers should be on the right and you should always pass on the left, JUST LIKE DRIVING. There will be many inconsiderate people who ignore this common courtesy but it will go a long way toward keeping you safe if you pay attention and follow the most basic rules of running in a group!......Have fun and don't forget the pre game bathroom stop using porta pottys in the dark is not fun! - georgieporgie  180.2 #2101 8:50PM
Ran the DL Half last year and the Tink 10k and Half this year! Just signed up for the Dumbo Dare because of how much I love it! I'm essentially just echoing what everyone else has posted...train, eat well & know your body. If something is aching or not feeling right, take care of it! Also, don't beat yourself up if you don't stick to your training routine 100%. For this last race, my training was all over the place & I was still able to reach my goals. Do some weights or swim instead of running day in and day out...I've found the breaks from running really helped my joints! Good luck!!  - GrimGrinningAmanda  660.1 #246 10:35AM
