I've seen large groups there before so it shouldn't be a problem if they have space for you without a reservation.

On my last trip I went twice- one with a party of 6 and one with a party of two. I have never sat closer to the water than I did with the large group and with both the food and the service was superb. The largest group I have been with is a group of 8. The service was slower than normal, but that was so everyone could receive their food at the same time- a common delay with large groups.
