Has anyone done the add on tours when booking a Disneyland package? We are thinking of adding on the Universal one? Any reviews or tips?
There are enough deals out there that if I wanted to do that I would purchase on my own.  - ythdudette  935.1 #151 6:40PM

We are flying in from Alaska. Which airport is the best?
We fly from Juneau into Long Beach we have done it three times in the past 3 years it has always been the cheapest through ak air for us. $45shuttle to the parks. takes about a half hour.We just got back yesterday! If you need any other tips let me know! - MammaSmith  20.6 #6090 3:58PM
John Wayne is closest, but probably better rate through LAX.  - ythdudette  935.1 #151 3:41PM
We have always found reasonable rates in and out of long beach.  - singleprincess  67.0 #3853 5:21PM
ONT is also good. Zero traffic and the easiest airport in the LA area - Disneyfreak111  368.3 #526 5:24PM

Is staying at the Disneyland hotel worth it or is staying at a good neighbor hotel ok? We are going Jan 24-30th
As Princess Duckie mentioned, it's that 'no outside world' that makes it a real resort vacation. Comfortable beds and beautiful rooms. Top notch amenities all around. If you have little ones and want to return to room for a nap or a swim midday, it's real convenient. We love the magic morning hour. Wish it were two hours. If it won't break the budget, it's definitely a fun thing to do at least once. But there's also nothing wrong with the good neighbor hotels. Access to a shuttle gets you to the park quickly and with minimum wear and tear to your feet. No matter where you stay, you'll be at the happiest place on earth, so you come out a winner either way! - MeridaFanHasNoAP  3190.4 #28 8:49AM
If you really dont care about spending big bucks and your family loves pool, GO FOR DISNEYLAND HOTEL.... But if you are on a budget, stick with good neighbor hotel - otilegna  1750.7 #67 4:07PM
The Hyatt is a good place to stay. We started staying at the Hilton which is across the street and cheaper sometimes. Also...you can ask for a Disneyland view and if they have the rooms available they will upgrade you...I'm not if there was a cost if at all any. We got a DL view and it was amazing! We could see al the fireworks going on. Definitely worth looking into. - pblack29  45.1 #4429 8:17AM

What's the best hotel to stay in? A good neighbor and a Disney? And why?
Hojo and or Marriott above the parks due to location. All of the Disney hotels are great but my wife reminds me that if we stay at the Grand she will be happy, ie happy wife equal happy life! - BombFrogCM  670.9 #234 1:36PM
HOJO because they support, but Hilton for first class and cheap. - jobojoko  13.2 #7612 2:12PM
Hojo 😉 - MEHlanie_Mouse  1113.7 #119 1:28PM
We enjoy the Grand for convenience. We have two little ones so it helps being close. I enjoy sitting out on the balcony and watching the fireworks each night in the summer. - BibbidiBobbidiBoo  43.2 #4497 2:27PM
The Grand for the convenience, the Disneyland for the pools/water slides! - cinderelli  341.9 #600 2:31PM

Has anyone used the Mickey dining plan? How does it work? Is it worth it ?
I've never used it, but I've heard from multiple sources that it doesn't really help anyone. Basically you just get meal vouchers for a certain dollar amount (let's say $20). Say you stop and have lunch and it only comes out to $15, you hand over your voucher, but they do not give change, so you just lost $5. Basically it's really only a way to prepay meals and help you budget, but in order to not lose money, you have to spend right on or over the voucher amount. If you are interested in prepaying or budgeting, a better option is gift cards since you don't lose any money. - Sarafina  425.0 #436 2:03PM
This is exactly right. Only Disneyworlds meal plan saves you money. Disneylands is almost useless. - rachelelizabeth  189.0 #1975 2:05PM
I asked this same question a couple of weeks ago and got lots of responses. Sarafina is right, at best the meal plan is a prepay/ budget tool, but this has a lot of restrictions and catches! In addition to losing any unspent portion of a voucher, they are not accepted everywhere. One of the best suggestions I got was to use a Target card that offers 5% off all purchases and use that to buy Disney gift cards for meals. - DreadPiratesRogers  796.4 #182 2:50PM
The cost of the dining plans at WDW went up, so even then it's not really a great deal unless you got a nice discount or free plan (with resort stay) and are making reservations for some premium restaurants. I know disneyland had a promotion recently where you got character dining vouchers with a resort stay worth about $40 each. - bluefairy  643.3 #249 5:36PM

We are coming in late January. What are some must see's and eats.
Ahhhh Everything lol. How many days do you have to enjoy Disney? Rsr is a def - fab5  21.9 #5946 3:39PM
I think the single most important eat between parks is Dole Whip (sold just outside the tiki room). It's DELICIOUS! I make every single person I bring to Disneyland celebrate their first trip with one! Both the dole whip float (it's the pineapple softserve with pineapple juice together) and the regular are worth a taste! And here's an insider tip: Usually if you mention to the cast member who helps you that it is your first whip, they will give you a button to remember the occasion! It's worth the wait in line and as a bonus you can enjoy your snack INSIDE the tiki room, that way you can relax and munch while you watch the show! :-) - drowtung  27.1 #5369 3:58PM
Sounds like the only thing people don't recommend is the turkey legs. 🍗 If you can try and do one of the planned meals with the characters. - starwarsmamma  561.6 #298 4:03PM

What's the Lily belle? How do you get reservations?
The Lily Belle was named after Walt Disney's wife and is the VIP Victorian parlor car on the train. You have to go to main Street station early in the morning to see if it is running that day and if it make a reservation. The conductor will take your name and how many guests you have. They will tell you what time to comeback ride it. It is very cool and you get to sign the guestbook. Plus you get commemorative tickets. - jpjcsdsnymom  6.6 #11992 11:02PM
Oct 29th im bringing my family with me around 10 people. Would you happen to know how many are allowed on the lilly belle? - MeAndMy3Girls  183.3 #2050 11:10PM

Has anyone tried the Fantasmic dessert package. Is it worth it?
We did the package our last trip. I enjoyed it. We were staying at the campground, so the $$ I saved on the room I spent on the desserts. Everything that comes with it is gourmet; truffles, chocolates, cookies, cheeses, meats. Plus, unlimited drinks (soda, coffee, tea,). The chairs are folding chairs. We did the first show, and stayed to watch fireworks. The key is to be in line early. Seats are picked in order of arrival. It's limited seating, so there are really no bad spots. It was worth it to us because we don't like to fight the crowds, or sit on the concrete. We enjoyed the service as well, and we are all about the food. It might not be worth it to you for anybody else. - Sugarbuzz  132.0 #2813 12:50PM
Hi Sugarbuzz :o) - MomWithAJuiceBoxBuzz  1021.8 #140 12:51PM
@bagglady- when the Dream Suite used to be the Gallery, you could sit in chairs on the balcony above Pirates. There was a really nice dessert buffet, and the view was great. It was about $10 more than the chair seating on the ground. I like the reserved seating -and the food is pretty good, and it's nice to sit in a chair :) - PrincessKristin  780.2 #188 10:55PM
