On this day: August 31 1938: Walt and Roy O. Disney make a $10,000 deposit on 51 acres in Burbank, CA, for a new studio.
I'm reading through CMBaloo's old posts. You're an amazing sentimentalist! Just a true to heart gem! I am so very sorry your attempt to give to the MWers didn't work out with the C33 invite. By the time I read your comment, the thing had already gotten out of hand. I apologize for stepping on your toes on that one. I very much need to make it up to you somehow. You are the source of so much inspiration, imagination, and Disney Magic that I'd be honored to meet you some time! Oops. Off topic. Squirrel! I was going to say that the $10K was more like $160,000 today. It's not chump change, but it came straight from the amazing success of Snow White, and what a beginning! - FairyGodfather

Too bad their investment didn't pay off. I feel bad they never made their $10k back lol - pridegirl

We are planning to go to dapper day but I have nothing to wear. Does anyone know of any good thrift stores with cute stuff? I've never been thrifting before so I have no clue where to start. I'm in Orange County :).
The original Disneyland designers frequently populated their renderings with guests who appeared dressed for a day of sophisticated entertainment – because this was Disneyland after all! A new, highly developed, exhaustively detailed entertainment experience. No flip-flops or cargo shorts here! These were men in sharp suits, toddlers working two-pieces, and ladies looking like pages from Dior’s sketchbook – all as if a visit to Disneyland were on par with a night at the opera. And why shouldn’t it be? That’s what this day is about, realizing those designer’s dreams that Disneyland be seen as the upscale escape that it is, filled with guests dressed appropriately for it.Interpret this however you like. A period “Mad Men” look is as correct as the latest haute couture, be creative, go Gaga, anything that would make the legendary and stylish Disney designers Mary Blair, John Hench, Herbie Ryman, Dorthea Redmond, Harriet Burns and the rest of the stylish WED lot look proud – or blush! - splashphotoCM

Great explanation! I had the "Mad Men" era in my mind when asking about thrift stores. - kss4tink 216.8 #1398 2:52PM
I found a poster/pic and I did a separate post here on MW. Hope you are not upset, I searched it after reading yours. Just didn't want you to think I was bombing your post. - splashphotoCM 880.9 #101 2:57PM
No, not at all :). You gave great information! - kss4tink 216.8 #1398 9:49AM
Really, all eras are encouraged and represented. It's really just what "dapper" means to you. I've seen everything from barber shop to Roaring '20s to zoot suits to '60s style. It's just a chance to get all fancy-schmantzy. 🎩 - PrinceCorey

The first child to find it gets an extra gift and good fortune for the next year. Oh and at our house serious bragging rights. What's your tradition?
