When I was about 3. I remember a few things. Random things about the monorail cafe, 2 story shops at Disneyland hotel, how huge I thought the Disneyland Hotel pool was, how I was scared to cross the little gap to get on the monorail and of course the skyway. I have been going ever since.

I would stay at the Grand. I have the luxury of going frequently so my hotel stays are what make the trip for me. The hotels beautiful and the pools are amazing. Plus it's so quick to the parks. It's worth the extra $$$ to relax.

The Grand is a beautiful hotel. However, you gotta remember that all you're going to be doing in the hotel is relax and sleep. All your play time is done at the parks. If you booked your trip at the Howard Johnson, you'll have more than enough money left over for tons of souvenirs. Especially for his birthday. Also, if you are planning your trip in the warmer months, I do believe they have an awesome little water park that they can keep occupied in. There's so many nice hotels along harbour bld that are just as close to the parks as the grand is and plus with the extra money saved instead of being able to go to Disneyland only every 5 years you can go once a year with the money saved staying at one of the good neighbor hotels - steffi 5.6 #9601 9:52AM

Download Waze in the App Store. It uses live traffic monitoring along with posts from other users to find you the quickest way to your destination. We used it last time we wer in LA when there was an accident on 5 that caused an hour delay. We got to Disneyland in record time. It contstantly recalculats your route and speaks turn by turn directions. Life saver.

Well there is many ways...it goes around rather than a direct route to the parks but chances are less traffic and even carpool lanes to help. I rarely take the 5 myself and I live in LA. Anything that connects to 57 is good, whether the 210, 10 or 60 fwy. I prefer 60, seems like less traffic usually and a carpool lane helps. From there take 57 south and exit ball turn east and follow ball to structure area or take Katella all the way down. - MarshaMouse 2871.2 #15 8:55PM

I agree, also depends on time of day, I try to drive long distances at night though that does not help always. The 210 seems to be less traveled past the 605 but you do go farthest out of your way on that one. I usually take the 60 also coming from LA area, though from the southbay lax area the 105 to the 605 to the 91 maybe but the 91 can be the worst of all. - secretagentangel 670.0 #154 9:13PM

Everybody has their own way...but we use Sigalert.com as soon as we hit Magic mountain and avoid the orange and red freeways, we sort of on the fly detour and bypass heavy areas.
