Well how is everyone? I'm kinda dealing with a lot of stress right now--trying to use it constructively and be optimistic! What are your tips for handling the curveballs life throws you? I'm trying to focus on positive thinking and breathing techniques. Hoping for a Disney trip in the next few months!
I've been ok. I started my PiYo DVDs yesterday. And I'm back to tracking food today. Just taking it one day at a time but hoping to stay on track.  - MXPrincess399  646.8 #258 12:19PM

I hear you SoS!  I'm trying so hard to be positive about my new job, but I'm not loving it. I finally got back on track with jenny after blowing it all of Sept (5 lbs to lose to be at DL weight. Another 5 to be at goal. Just keep swimming, breathe and keep looking for your happy place.  - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 12:20PM
Hi!  Sorry to hear that you're not loving your new job!  We are at a crossroads--tossing the idea around of moving out of state in a few years so that we can have a better quality of life and not have to commute so far to work.  So yeah, one step at a time!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 4:19PM

Super frustrating day! I was supposed to do a 10 mile run, and I just wasn't feeling it, pretty much from the word "go." Maybe it was just the thought of a double digit run, lol. Just the first quarter mile felt like a struggle--my body felt like lead! But I pushed through, for the next few miles. I got fed up and texted my husband at mile 5-- he is great at sending motivating messages so that  More...
OMG!  I blame it all on the wasp.  I can relate - even though you're light years ahead of me with your double digit runs!  The other morning I got up to walk with the intention of doing 4+ miles.  Just like you, I wasn't feeling it.  I kept changing the music and giving myself pep talks but didn't work.  Went home at 3.  Tomorrow is another day.... - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 4:36PM
Yes, it is--at least we both got out there and did something, even if it wasn't all that we had planned! ย Man, I don't think I've ever been stung by a wasp and it's been at least a decade and a half since I've had a bee sting...they HURT! ย My leg is sore tonight! ย I'm glad I decided to head home because I might have ended up with a swollen leg or some weird reaction if I had tried to run another four miles. What a disaster, lol. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 10:54PM
And, "tomorrow is another day"--for as many personality faults as she had, Scarlett can sure teach all of us a thing or two about perseverance and survival!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 12:25PM
I'm glad you're ok that's awful! I know how you feel you just have to tell yourself keep going you can do this. - disneyland4me  242.0 #1337 6:15PM
Thank you!  Yes, all was fine, and I'm very grateful that I'm not allergic!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 5:37PM
I'm sorry you had a bad time. What works for me is to take each mile at a time. So instead of thinking of the whole run in your mind, tell yourself you can do the first mile and focus fully on that mile. Then do the same for each additional mile. It's a mental thing and when I work out and say I can't do it, I stop at that moment.  - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  701.3 #230 11:55AM
Thank you!  I agree--the struggle is usually mental, rather than physical.  One mile at a time is great advice (sometimes, I literally have to take it one step at a time, haha!) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 12:23PM
Update: went out for my 10 miler today, and everything went great--no bees today, lol!  Beat my time goal by 3 minutes, too!    - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 12:23PM

๐Ÿ“ฃHello out there! Lol, it's like a ghost town in here, and I don't really have anything of particular quality to add, but I thought I'd start a new thread. ๐Ÿ˜‚ How is everyone? I'm just plodding along, doing Pilates, kettlebells and running. It's a great workout combo for me. I'm probably eating a little too much (as per usual) but life is good!
I know!  What happened to our loyal Chubb 33'ers!  I know that Vicki is on FB a lot - I'll have to try to convince her to come back and join us! I'm back in my diet mode.  20 min on the elliptical and 1,000 reps on my "ButtMaster" every day (not sure it does anything but I figure it can't hurt and I might as well do something when I'm on the computer all day!).  I'll be at the park in a little less than 2 months.  Still have my fingers crossed that I lose the last 10 lbs by then!  Oh, and thank you again for your words about the benefit of regular exercise.  I really took them to heart! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 4:34PM
Glad you're back in the "zone!"  Is a buttmaster the Suzanne Somers thing?  I'm glad to help!  I got carried away and write a lot, lol!  :).  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 11:02PM

Doing OK! How is your training going? Mine is so so! Not enough hours in the day for me!  - disneyland4me  242.0 #1337 10:26PM
It's going, lol.  I got derailed for a few days last week with a minor cold--I kept running, but took it very easy and skipped my long run.  Feeling better now, phew!  Yeah, it's really hard to schedule running around life, especially since it's getting hotter.  I have to be careful to go out early and that means I have to get up early!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 11:01PM
Hi i am back to try again. I am using a fitbit with the dashboard app and it is working. I just put in a link in another post about Ghiradelli ice-cream nutrition facts. Hi Plumie! Welcome back :)  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 10:54PM
I am checking in to chub33 for the first time! And it feels weird.  I have always been thin, and never had to worry about my weight.  That was until my son started kindergarten and I gained what I called the "kindergarten 15". I am a stay at home mom so I kind of sat around a bit too much while he was in school. First grade added another 10, and now I need to lose 25 pounds. I barely recognize myself.  I eat healthy, but I don't eat enough- I tend to not eat all day and then have one big meal. I am trying to get better at eating more throughout the day.  I just don't get hungry throughout the day so it is hard. I am hoping that y'all can help with some accountability and help on how to do all this since it is new to me.  Trying to lose weight for the first time at 36 is kind of intimidating. - Thumper13  395.3 #504 6:28PM
Welcome Thumper13!  If you think it's hard at 36, wait until you're my age (50+)!  It's ridiculous!  Are you following a plan? There's a lot of people on Weight Watchers - I'm a Jenny Craig person!  Let us know how you're doing! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 8:29PM
Thank you! I can't believe you are over 50! You look fabulous!  Food isn't really my issue, it's getting off of my butt and exercising.  It's funny, I love to cook healthy meals, but I never work out. I think I will start with walking. - Thumper13  395.3 #504 8:59PM
Welcome to chub33!  We all have different goals and plans, but what we have in common is an interest in healthy living and a love of Disney.  I understand what you mean about exercising--I've found that making goals (like signing up for the DL half marathon) helps me stick to a stricter exercise plan.  If I don't have a goal, I tend to either not workout much, or choose workouts that don't really challenge me.  Then I get bored, lol.  So, my advice is to make goals for yourself!  Writing them down really helps, to! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 10:54PM
What kind of goals should I set? Right now my main goal is to look better and be healthier by our next visit in October, but should I set small ones throughout? I don't expect to lose the full 25 by then but I would like to not be as sore at the end of a disney day. - Thumper13  395.3 #504 12:36PM
My goal is always to lose whatever weight I want to lose by my summer DL vacation (I'm going in 6 weeks and still technically have about 8 to go!).  My goal after that is to keep it off so I will be able to fit in my Maleficent Halloween costume! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 8:42PM
One big goal with smaller, manageable goals works best for me (kinda the one step at a time approach). ย So, if my overall goal is to finish the half marathon, I set smaller weekly goals for myself. ย For example, I had 3 bouts of bronchitis this year (very uncommon for me), so I knew that training for the half would be difficult because my lungs were weaker than they were last year. ย My first week's goal was just to jog 1/2 mile without stopping, going as slowly as I needed, and walk the rest of my workout. Five weeks ago, I really struggled with that. ย Then, I focused on increasing the walk : jog ratio, and now that I'm stronger, I'm focusing on speed work and longer distances each week. ย So, if your goal is walking and weight loss, then you might start out walking a certain number of miles, and as you progress, play with speed, distance, or add in hills on different days of the week. ย Training for races really keeps me going--it's a tangible goal. I recommend finding a walking buddy, if possible, and signing up for something like a 1 mile fun run/walk, 5K fun run/walk, or a cancer walk a thon (or other kind of fundraiser). Good luck!ย  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 11:14PM

I've lost about 28 of the 40 lbs that I want to lose this year.  Like I've posted, these last 15 are a bitch!  But I will stay with it!!! I also had a plan to start "running" (if you could call it that) in the morning with the goal of being able to run/jog a mile (we have a path in my park that's exactly a mile) without having to stop to walk.  That hasn't happened yet.... Did I tell you that I'm out of work AGAIN!!!!  Oh...last week I booked our annual DL trip.  6 nights at the Grand the 3rd week in August.  Can't wait (but want to lose the 15 lbs by then!). - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 12:57AM

Chaotic until the end SoS, which is why I'm happy to be gone.  An employee who was fired for attendance issues (drama queen who called in sick and/or was late more than any human on earth) filed a complaint against me.  One of her issues...I hosted a baby shower for another employee but wasn't "helping" with the one she was planning for herself!  Unbelievable.  No wonder I gained 40 lbs!!! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 3:15PM

I  not very educated on that stuff because I prefer a little honey or sugar to the artificial stuff, but yeah, I think Stevia is the preferred choice--my husband did a bunch of research when we first started drinking green smoothies, and he decided that was best, anyway, lol.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 4:48PM

Question for you Do you eat or drink anything special when you run a half marathon? - disneyland4me  242.0 #1337 1:23PM
I had a really hard time getting my fuel right for long distance runs, and I did a lot of research and trial/error to see what could make things easier for me.  I found that a half bagel with peanut butter and half of a banana works really well for me prior to my run (about 1/2 hour before). I always drink a lot of water, but I found that electrolytes really important.  I occasionally use gels or blocks (don't take those with a sports drink--use water)--But I've made it through long runs without them just fine.  Everyone has slightly different needs based on their body chemistry, and you also need to be careful not to overhydrate, too, because that can be really dangerous.  Some people don't have much of a problem, but last year, I really struggled to find the right balance for my runs that were over 7 or 8 miles.  I use Accelerade, Gatorade or Powerade (I'm not picky) during runs, but I also found that a big glass of coconut water, a banana, and a little salty snack, like pretzels and string cheese, afterward really helps me recover.  You'll probably need to try different things to find the right balance.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 2:19PM

I've been busy eating EVERYTHING!  I've all set to get back on track for the new year - my head is sort of in the same place that it was after I had my first son (35 years ago...lol).  I had gained so much weight and didn't feel good (not to mention how bad I looked), that I looked forward to being on a diet!  I can't wait to look and feel better!  I can't wait for 2014!!! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 2:14PM

Good luck on drinking your green smoothies. I don't know if I could drink that. I hope you have a great week - disneyland4me  242.0 #1337 10:35PM
Thanks, and good luck to you, too!  I actually love the smoothies--if you choose the right fruits, you can't taste the kale, but you still get the nutritional benefits!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 10:43PM
May I ask what do you put in your smoothies - disneyland4me  242.0 #1337 12:52AM
I always do water, kale, spinach, and a banana as the base, then I add different fruits: I like pineapple with tangerines or blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.  Sometimes, we add yogurt, almond milk, or protein powder.  We get the frozen fruit and huge bags of spinach and kale (then we freeze the veggies, too) from Costco, and that saves a lot of money!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 8:45AM
I might have to try this. - disneyland4me  242.0 #1337 5:17PM

Not so good...only 2 workouts and 2 protein shakes. Did not like what I saw on the scale and yet still made poor decisions. I'm simply exhausted from work(retail, so it's our busiest time) plus I'm trying to make The Holidays "normal" even though father is still in the hospital. Now, I feel like I'm coming down with something too.....alright, pity party over. I will try hard to make it a good week... - ElectricMayhemMom  896.0 #170 10:55AM

So, I've lost a few pounds because I've been careful with my diet and I've been good about getting my training runs in. I'd like to (kinda, at least) stay in control during the holidays--I'm ok with not losing, but I don't want to gain. Question for those who have done a DL race: I wasn't able to do a 10k this summer, so I don't have proof of time and I'll be in one of the last corrals. In your experience, have the aid stations ever run out of the sports drinks or the blocks? Just wondering if I need to bring some of my own stuff (blocks and electrolyte tablets), or if I can count on those things being available for the people  More...
I would bring your own. They have powerade at several stations and gu gels. They haven't had blocks at any of the Disney races I've done. I bring my own blocks and electrolyte tablets. For Tink I wore my fuel belt and just refilled my water at the water stations.  - vernswifevickie  400.2 #493 3:42PM
I should add...I've been in the last corral for both of the halfs that I've done and they had plenty of gels and powerade...I just don't like those two things...lol - vernswifevickie  400.2 #493 3:44PM
Thanks Vickie!  This is helpful!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 5:44PM
Great question and good info to know.  :)  I have my first half in January at WDW and was wondering the same thing.  I'm doing a 10k next week so hopefully will have a time to submit and not end up at the back corral....but I'm slow so you never know. LOL - D55CR  249.9 #1232 2:54PM

So glad today went well for you! When things get tough for me, I have to really ask myself what I want. In the end only I can make it happen. I also have to look at my daughter and look at the example I'm setting for her. She's her Momma's daughter so when it comes to weight. She has the potential to have the same issues I do and I don't want that๐Ÿ˜ž - ElectricMayhemMom  896.0 #170 7:26PM
That's great that you're setting such a positive example for your daughter! I don't have kids yet, but hopefully I will in the future, and that thought motivates me, too--I want to be a good example and provide a healthy environment for them. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 8:47PM
I've never trained for something like that so I wouldn't know. I sort of want to do the run/walk training, but my dog is getting older (he'll be 12 this December) and he's more into sniffing than running. I did okay tonight, but I really don't want to push him (and I'm such a pathetic dog mommy that I wouldn't think of going out without him). I did get on my elliptical tonight for the first time in months. Only did 20 minutes - I guess I could look at that as a workout and push to go longer and longer. Great job SoS. I can't even fathom running 10 miles! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 11:47PM
I bring my pup with me for my short runs and I stopped off at home to get some Gatorade and picked him up for the last 2 miles yesterday. It breaks my heart having to leave him! One thing I won't miss when this is over is having to be so conscious of my mileage and time. It'll feel good to just relax and enjoy going out with him. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 8:27AM
You are so right that is is more a mental challenge than a physical one. I agree with PQB about changing up your routine so it doesn't get boring. I also try to look back at how far I have come. And also just browse for motivation on Pinterest or some of the run club pages on Facebook. That will usually get my juices going and make me want to get back out there. Congrats on your 10 miles! (I did 6 today - my longest run to date!). That is awesome! Enjoy your DL Half....it will be here before you know it. You will rock it! - D55CR  249.9 #1232 10:48AM
Congrats on your 6 miler! Thanks for the advice! I've also started using a few mantras when I'm feeling sluggish and those really helped! The only problem is that we've got a wild fire in the area and the air is all smoky now, so it looks like I'll have to use the treadmill for the next few days :/ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 2:41PM

Hi all! I'm just starting to think about my outfit for the DL Half. I probably won't do a full, elaborate costume since its my first half--I'm super picky and hate when I'm wearing something too heavy or clingy or irritating. Definitely no tutus, but I want something fun. Has anyone here bought skirts from Team Sparkle? How did they work out while you were running? Were they inconvenient at  More...
You're a lady after my own heart...if I was running in something like that, I'd definitely put more thought into the outfit than my running strategy! Sorry - not able to give you any advise on this one! - msdizmaui  632.0 #269 10:25PM

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it! I've wanted to do this since 2007, and we were finally able to do it! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 5:56PM
I love my Team Sparkle Skirts. I wear spandex running sorts under mine and I don't even notice the skirt when I run. I didn't register in time for the half this year :( - vernswifevickie  400.2 #493 4:12PM
Thanks for the feedback--it sounds like the skirt won't annoy me, lol. I'm sorry to hear you missed tout on registering...I checked runDisney the other day, and it looks like people can still register through charities--maybe that's another option? :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  544.7 #323 7:19PM
