Hi, all! Happy Saturday! What's for dinner? Random thoughts? βœ¨πŸŒ›βœ¨

I am making goat cheese and artichoke flatbread! ... Ok I'm warming it up from Starbucks last night!! - secretagentangel  6905.1 #17 9:05PM
Hi everyone! ! I am a chef so I tend to try things that sound crazy but hopefully turn out delicious.  Tonight I made really nicely seasoned hamburgers topped with green chili, melted swiss cheese, blue cheese crumbles, red onion and perfectly ripened sliced strawberries.  They were awesome,  even got my ten year olds approval :)   - waltandub  93.5 #3770 9:06PM
Interesting!  I would have never thought to put strawberries on a burger! πŸ“ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 9:14PM
Yum! waltandub, that sounds so incredibly good and the strawberries sound like the best part, though I'm very partial toblue cheese! I'll have to try Blue and Swiss together, would never have thought to use this combination of cheeses! I love putting cracked black pepper on my strawberries when I put them in salads, or on a bagel w/ cream cheese & drizzled with honey and a little sriracha for some heat! Enjoy! πŸ˜‹ - Catski23  29.3 #6287 10:05PM

Hi everyone! I've been doing a lot more of my own cooking recently, and I was just wondering, do you have any favorite "Disney snacks/meals" that remind you of things from the parks that you are able to make at home? (And maybe tweak to make them at least slightly more healthy, haha πŸ˜‚) What are your suggestions? οΏΌοΏΌ

Good question!  The only healthy thing I eat in DL is bananas from the fresh fruit carts in TL, Main Street, and NOS. I can't wait to see what people post... Any low fat Funnel Cake recipes out there?! - Ilovegoofy  69.6 #4283 4:36PM
Thanks for answering!  I found a Dole Whip copycat recipe from Blentec that I want to try soon.  Looks quick and easy and only 60 calories per 1/2 cup!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 7:43AM
That's fantastic!  You'll have to post about it once you do make it. I'm not a pineapple person. Is there somewhere in DL where you can get chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream? - Ilovegoofy  69.6 #4283 9:40AM
I know that there's soft serve in DCA at the Cozy Cones and on the pier.  However, I can't think of anywhere in DL that serves soft serve.  That's a good question!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 11:43AM

Hi everyone! So good to see everyone posting in here again! πŸ˜ƒ Just wondering, what is your favorite way to get exercise, and why? I like to walk my dog because it's fun to see the world through his eyes--he sniffs everything and that reminds me to stop and smell the flowers more often πŸŒΊπŸŒΎπŸƒπŸΎ

I live in the boonies, so I live to roam around cross country. Lots of climbing. Never know what kind of animal I'll see  - disneyforme  494.5 #457 9:04PM
I love being outside, too.  We used to live in a rural area and we'd see bunnies and critters on our hikes.  Saw a bobcat once, and that scared me, haha!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 6:55AM
I like to walk around the neighborhood with a good friend of mine.  We chat the whole time and it goes by so quickly.  My second favorite is to walk on the treadmill at home with my iPad and watch something on Hulu or Netflix.  - Mickeylover67  552.6 #391 10:01PM
It's so nice to have company on walks isn't it? I also like to have something to watch if I'm exercising indoors.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 6:57AM
i hate to sweat!!! Love swimming and gardening(even though it's not exercise) - mmddgp  1092.5 #7 8:14PM
Both ARE exercise!  Gardening requires squats, core strength, and working your arms and shoulders. And swimming is the best exercise around because it works EVERY muscle in your body all at once!  And of course swimming gets your heart pumping at any speed. Plus, you're right, you don't even notice you're sweating πŸ˜‰ - Ilovegoofy  69.6 #4283 8:54PM
I agree that both are exercise!  Gardening is hard work, and it's partly why our ancestors didn't need to lift weights or run on treadmills! πŸ˜‚    - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 8:25AM
I changed the batteries in my elliptical (they work the display and built in fan)!  Does that count?  My goal is to actually get ON it this week! - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 2:41PM

Hi Everyone! I have a question about park merchandise. Is the BB8 toy by Sphero something that's still available in the parks? And if so, would an AP discount apply? My husband wants one but only if it comes from DL, haha he's just soooo cute! 😍

Ohhh that's a great question!  I just saw them in Star Wars Launch Bay yesterday, but I didn't even think about whether a discount would apply.  I want a BB8 too. lol - Alicewhoareyou  2724.2 #55 3:44PM

I ask the CM about the Discount. She said for BB8 Sphero, they will only give 10% discount (no matter what pass type you got) because it is a media item.... All the other items still follow the Discount per passholder level - otilegna  2783.7 #52 7:46PM
That's still $15 off, so sounds like a better deal than other retailers.πŸ‘ - Alicewhoareyou  2724.2 #55 7:53PM

Super frustrating day! I was supposed to do a 10 mile run, and I just wasn't feeling it, pretty much from the word "go." Maybe it was just the thought of a double digit run, lol. Just the first quarter mile felt like a struggle--my body felt like lead! But I pushed through, for the next few miles. I got fed up and texted my husband at mile 5-- he is great at sending motivating messages so that  More...

OMG!  I blame it all on the wasp.  I can relate - even though you're light years ahead of me with your double digit runs!  The other morning I got up to walk with the intention of doing 4+ miles.  Just like you, I wasn't feeling it.  I kept changing the music and giving myself pep talks but didn't work.  Went home at 3.  Tomorrow is another day.... - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 4:36PM
Yes, it is--at least we both got out there and did something, even if it wasn't all that we had planned! Β Man, I don't think I've ever been stung by a wasp and it's been at least a decade and a half since I've had a bee sting...they HURT! Β My leg is sore tonight! Β I'm glad I decided to head home because I might have ended up with a swollen leg or some weird reaction if I had tried to run another four miles. What a disaster, lol. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 10:54PM

I'm glad you're ok that's awful! I know how you feel you just have to tell yourself keep going you can do this. - disneyland4me  250.5 #1396 6:15PM
Thank you!  Yes, all was fine, and I'm very grateful that I'm not allergic!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 5:37PM
I'm sorry you had a bad time. What works for me is to take each mile at a time. So instead of thinking of the whole run in your mind, tell yourself you can do the first mile and focus fully on that mile. Then do the same for each additional mile. It's a mental thing and when I work out and say I can't do it, I stop at that moment.  - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  1143.9 #167 11:55AM
Thank you!  I agree--the struggle is usually mental, rather than physical.  One mile at a time is great advice (sometimes, I literally have to take it one step at a time, haha!) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 12:23PM

πŸ“£Hello out there! Lol, it's like a ghost town in here, and I don't really have anything of particular quality to add, but I thought I'd start a new thread. πŸ˜‚ How is everyone? I'm just plodding along, doing Pilates, kettlebells and running. It's a great workout combo for me. I'm probably eating a little too much (as per usual) but life is good!

I know!  What happened to our loyal Chubb 33'ers!  I know that Vicki is on FB a lot - I'll have to try to convince her to come back and join us! I'm back in my diet mode.  20 min on the elliptical and 1,000 reps on my "ButtMaster" every day (not sure it does anything but I figure it can't hurt and I might as well do something when I'm on the computer all day!).  I'll be at the park in a little less than 2 months.  Still have my fingers crossed that I lose the last 10 lbs by then!  Oh, and thank you again for your words about the benefit of regular exercise.  I really took them to heart! - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 4:34PM
Glad you're back in the "zone!"  Is a buttmaster the Suzanne Somers thing?  I'm glad to help!  I got carried away and write a lot, lol!  :).  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 11:02PM

Doing OK! How is your training going? Mine is so so! Not enough hours in the day for me!  - disneyland4me  250.5 #1396 10:26PM
It's going, lol.  I got derailed for a few days last week with a minor cold--I kept running, but took it very easy and skipped my long run.  Feeling better now, phew!  Yeah, it's really hard to schedule running around life, especially since it's getting hotter.  I have to be careful to go out early and that means I have to get up early!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 11:01PM
Hi i am back to try again. I am using a fitbit with the dashboard app and it is working. I just put in a link in another post about Ghiradelli ice-cream nutrition facts. They did not have any whe I asked there but email to the main corporation came back with that they use dryer's ice-cream so that info is on line. yeah!! - Plumiegirl  10329.7 #9 8:46PM
Hi Plumie! Welcome back :)  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 10:54PM
I am checking in to chub33 for the first time! And it feels weird.  I have always been thin, and never had to worry about my weight.  That was until my son started kindergarten and I gained what I called the "kindergarten 15". I am a stay at home mom so I kind of sat around a bit too much while he was in school. First grade added another 10, and now I need to lose 25 pounds. I barely recognize myself.  I eat healthy, but I don't eat enough- I tend to not eat all day and then have one big meal. I am trying to get better at eating more throughout the day.  I just don't get hungry throughout the day so it is hard. I am hoping that y'all can help with some accountability and help on how to do all this since it is new to me.  Trying to lose weight for the first time at 36 is kind of intimidating. - Thumper13  516.4 #432 6:28PM
Welcome Thumper13!  If you think it's hard at 36, wait until you're my age (50+)!  It's ridiculous!  Are you following a plan? There's a lot of people on Weight Watchers - I'm a Jenny Craig person!  Let us know how you're doing! - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 8:29PM
Thank you! I can't believe you are over 50! You look fabulous!  Food isn't really my issue, it's getting off of my butt and exercising.  It's funny, I love to cook healthy meals, but I never work out. I think I will start with walking. - Thumper13  516.4 #432 8:59PM
Welcome to chub33!  We all have different goals and plans, but what we have in common is an interest in healthy living and a love of Disney.  I understand what you mean about exercising--I've found that making goals (like signing up for the DL half marathon) helps me stick to a stricter exercise plan.  If I don't have a goal, I tend to either not workout much, or choose workouts that don't really challenge me.  Then I get bored, lol.  So, my advice is to make goals for yourself!  Writing them down really helps, to! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 10:54PM
What kind of goals should I set? Right now my main goal is to look better and be healthier by our next visit in October, but should I set small ones throughout? I don't expect to lose the full 25 by then but I would like to not be as sore at the end of a disney day. - Thumper13  516.4 #432 12:36PM
My goal is always to lose whatever weight I want to lose by my summer DL vacation (I'm going in 6 weeks and still technically have about 8 to go!).  My goal after that is to keep it off so I will be able to fit in my Maleficent Halloween costume! - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 8:42PM
One big goal with smaller, manageable goals works best for me (kinda the one step at a time approach). Β So, if my overall goal is to finish the half marathon, I set smaller weekly goals for myself. Β For example, I had 3 bouts of bronchitis this year (very uncommon for me), so I knew that training for the half would be difficult because my lungs were weaker than they were last year. Β My first week's goal was just to jog 1/2 mile without stopping, going as slowly as I needed, and walk the rest of my workout. Five weeks ago, I really struggled with that. Β Then, I focused on increasing the walk : jog ratio, and now that I'm stronger, I'm focusing on speed work and longer distances each week. Β So, if your goal is walking and weight loss, then you might start out walking a certain number of miles, and as you progress, play with speed, distance, or add in hills on different days of the week. Β Training for races really keeps me going--it's a tangible goal. I recommend finding a walking buddy, if possible, and signing up for something like a 1 mile fun run/walk, 5K fun run/walk, or a cancer walk a thon (or other kind of fundraiser). Good luck!Β  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 11:14PM

I feel like it's two or three years ago, with heated discussions about what constitutes spam, a blue bayou/POTC dinner roll post, a crustle and friends pic, and a stroller crew meet up. πŸ˜‚πŸŒ€How is everyone? Random thoughts?

Don't forget googled pictures!πŸ˜‚ - HasAnyoneSeenMyGlassSlipper  690.9 #302 9:33PM
or really bad hand drawn ones or painted nails, lol. - secretagentangel  6905.1 #17 9:34PM
Haven't seen a nail post tonight...yet, lol, the night's still young, though - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 9:36PM
I found a good nail art idea should I post it? - XochiFryingPanWhoKnew  87.9 #3872 9:58PM
Xochi-FryingPanWhoKnew Please don't. We're being sarcastic. - HasAnyoneSeenMyGlassSlipper  690.9 #302 10:16PM
Whoops sorry lol☺️ - XochiFryingPanWhoKnew  87.9 #3872 10:17PM
I asked admin if I could do traditions post so people could know what some of the things you are talking about are.  I think there have been a few heated discussions on this, I just looked it up.  I personally liked the dinner roll but there were a few.....detractors, hehe. but still love it!  still get updates on it too. - secretagentangel  6905.1 #17 9:34PM
Ha, yeah, I think someone tried to do a traditions post maybe a year or so ago?  People just posted phrases, rather than explaining what they meant, lol, so it didn't work too well.  That's a good idea to try again!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 9:43PM
yes, I think over the years lots of things have been tried to help newbies know all the cool things, and to get to the bottom of the some problems too.  but really want to help the new peeps  learn some cool stuff so they can join in too. - secretagentangel  6905.1 #17 10:03PM
Random thoughts--my shoulder hurts and I'm sad I'll miss the Stroller Crew meet up. The first one I went to I was pregnant with Little Skipper! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2580.3 #59 9:49PM
Aw, sorry your shoulder hurts and that you'll miss the meet up!  She is adorable in your profile pic--growing so fast! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 9:52PM

Any runners have recommendations for hydration belts? I'm looking for something comfortable and as streamlined as possible that will hold enough water for me and my dog (24-40 ounces will work, I think). We recently moved, and we were living in an area with lots of cool hiking/running paths and a golf resort which had ice water every mile, available year round. In this heat wave, I'm realizing   More...

Check into the products by Camelbak.  My son - who was a Marine - used a heavy duty variety when he was in the military, but they also make products for "regular" people.  He swears by the brand (they sell them on Amazon and all sorts of sports stores). - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 4:56PM
This is helpful--I tried one of their belts on today, and I just wasn't sure (I'm hopeless at making decisions, lol).  Thanks!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 10:49PM

If anyone is on the fence about running in one or some of the Star Wars RunDisney events next January, I just want to give a heads up that you should plan on making up your mind ASAP. Registration is next Tuesday (June 10) in the morning, and you will want to commit at that point. They opened up early AP/DVC registration today and they sold out of every race except for the half (currently showin  More...

I'm in for the Half. I wanted to do the Rebel Challenge but it's so much money.  - MXPrincess399  802.6 #238 9:18AM

How's everyone doing? I'm not eating well or exercising lately, but I've made some changes and I'm much less stressed and anxious than I used to be. Although I've struggled with chest colds this year, I'm actually feeling really happy and relaxed. Now, time to get back to exercising! My big goals are to run the DL Half and Avengers Half this year and to lose a little weight. What are your go  More...

I've lost about 28 of the 40 lbs that I want to lose this year.  Like I've posted, these last 15 are a bitch!  But I will stay with it!!! I also had a plan to start "running" (if you could call it that) in the morning with the goal of being able to run/jog a mile (we have a path in my park that's exactly a mile) without having to stop to walk.  That hasn't happened yet.... Did I tell you that I'm out of work AGAIN!!!!  Oh...last week I booked our annual DL trip.  6 nights at the Grand the 3rd week in August.  Can't wait (but want to lose the 15 lbs by then!). - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 12:57AM
Wow, that's great!  So much to look forward too!  I just love the Grand...wish I could live there, haha!  So sorry to hear you're out of work--did all that drama ever calm down, or was it chaotic until the end?   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 6:44AM
Chaotic until the end SoS, which is why I'm happy to be gone.  An employee who was fired for attendance issues (drama queen who called in sick and/or was late more than any human on earth) filed a complaint against me.  One of her issues...I hosted a baby shower for another employee but wasn't "helping" with the one she was planning for herself!  Unbelievable.  No wonder I gained 40 lbs!!! - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 3:15PM
Whaaat??  That's nuts.  Why do some people go to such lengths to try to make other people miserable?  So sorry you had to deal with all that, and I'm glad you were able to be free of the situation! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 2:20PM
I've taken charge. I started exercising and am loving it. I could never understand people saying that they love to exercise. I guess I hadn't found the right exercise. My diet has good days and bad day, but I'm moving forward.  - Mrs.mouse  543.6 #401 12:04PM
That's great!  Yeah, I really think exercise has to be fun in some way.  If it's a chore, most people won't do it.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 1:46PM
I just checked and the Vitamin Water Zero has Stevia. I didn't see Aspartame listed. Stevia is okay, right?  I may give up my one Sprite Zero and just go with the water (Crystal Light is bad I think) - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 2:25PM
I  not very educated on that stuff because I prefer a little honey or sugar to the artificial stuff, but yeah, I think Stevia is the preferred choice--my husband did a bunch of research when we first started drinking green smoothies, and he decided that was best, anyway, lol.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 4:48PM
I'm good! I have to get the ball rolling for Disneyland half marathon. I have never walk/ jog that far. Good luck with your training! I hope your feeling better - disneyland4me  250.5 #1396 5:18PM
I am feeling better today, thanks!  I went on two walks yesterday.  Good luck with your training--You will do great!  Post if you have any questions--several of us have run a half before and we understand the struggles and victories! πŸ˜ƒ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 7:27AM
Question for you Do you eat or drink anything special when you run a half marathon? - disneyland4me  250.5 #1396 1:23PM
I had a really hard time getting my fuel right for long distance runs, and I did a lot of research and trial/error to see what could make things easier for me.  I found that a half bagel with peanut butter and half of a banana works really well for me prior to my run (about 1/2 hour before). I always drink a lot of water, but I found that electrolytes really important.  I occasionally use gels or blocks (don't take those with a sports drink--use water)--But I've made it through long runs without them just fine.  Everyone has slightly different needs based on their body chemistry, and you also need to be careful not to overhydrate, too, because that can be really dangerous.  Some people don't have much of a problem, but last year, I really struggled to find the right balance for my runs that were over 7 or 8 miles.  I use Accelerade, Gatorade or Powerade (I'm not picky) during runs, but I also found that a big glass of coconut water, a banana, and a little salty snack, like pretzels and string cheese, afterward really helps me recover.  You'll probably need to try different things to find the right balance.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 2:19PM

✨ Merry Christmas! ✨Weekly Health Goals, December 22-28. Post your health/fitness/weight loss related goals for this week, then check back in at the end of the week to let us know how you did. Let's help each other out!

My goals are three runs, including a 10K, and to not feel stuffed (hate that feeling)!  Have a lovely week, everyone!! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 6:06AM
Oh, I hate that feeling, too! And then I'm just like "Why, do you want to feel like this?" My goal it's to just make better food decisions this week especially since I know it's gonna be another hectic week at work. I may end up at fast food places but I will choose wiser on where and what I order. Christmas is gonna be hard with my father still in the hospital. Trying to prepare myself to support Mom. So afraid of her breaking down Christmas morningπŸ˜” - ElectricMayhemMom  1631.0 #109 8:37PM
Good luck on your runs this week.I hope you have a Merry Christmas. - disneyland4me  250.5 #1396 10:29PM
Β This week stay positive I'm a little upset at myself because I haven't lost much weight and I wanted to be smaller to run the Tinkerbell half marathon 5 k. - disneyland4me  250.5 #1396 10:27PM
Yes, try to stay positive.  A few of us have had similar experiences when we've trained for runs, so you're not alone.  Remember that you're building muscle, which is denser than fat tissue.  You might actually be losing fat and gaining muscle (which is FANTASTIC for your overall health) but not seeing much difference on the scale.  Keep it up: you're doing great! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 1:08PM
Well, I got one 5k in, then came down with a chest cold.  Ugh!  It's inevitable this time of year.  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 10:56AM
I've been busy eating EVERYTHING!  I've all set to get back on track for the new year - my head is sort of in the same place that it was after I had my first son (35 years ago...lol).  I had gained so much weight and didn't feel good (not to mention how bad I looked), that I looked forward to being on a diet!  I can't wait to look and feel better!  I can't wait for 2014!!! - msdizmaui  759.4 #263 2:14PM
Yay--new starts are so refreshing!  For some reason, I can't get into the Chub 33 forum, but I wanted to say Happy New Year!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  632.1 #339 10:25AM
