Hi all! I'm just starting to think about my outfit for the DL Half. I probably won't do a full, elaborate costume since its my first half--I'm super picky and hate when I'm wearing something too heavy or clingy or irritating. Definitely no tutus, but I want something fun. Has anyone here bought skirts from Team Sparkle? How did they work out while you were running? Were they inconvenient at  More...
You're a lady after my own heart...if I was running in something like that, I'd definitely put more thought into the outfit than my running strategy! Sorry - not able to give you any advise on this one! - msdizmaui  521.6 #226 10:25PM
Lol! I'm still working on strategy but I love clothes too! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 6:55AM
I agree with MDM, I'd be focused on my outfit too. I have nothing useful to add, other than say I'm sure you'll look amazing. - Mrs.mouse  426.1 #304 12:34PM
Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it! I've wanted to do this since 2007, and we were finally able to do it! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 5:56PM
I love my Team Sparkle Skirts. I wear spandex running sorts under mine and I don't even notice the skirt when I run. I didn't register in time for the half this year :( - vernswifevickie  374.1 #378 4:12PM
Thanks for the feedback--it sounds like the skirt won't annoy me, lol. I'm sorry to hear you missed tout on registering...I checked runDisney the other day, and it looks like people can still register through charities--maybe that's another option? :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 7:19PM
Another vote for team sparkle skirts! I wore one for the last two halfs and didn't even notice it (and I get super picky about my workout clothes being comfy& not irritating or rubbing weird) have fun SOS!! :) - supertracy  435.6 #290 12:12AM

With all the runDisney โœจ๐Ÿƒโœจ events lately, we've had so many discussions about running, which I think is great--I love that we're talking about being happy and healthy! Other than running, what are some of the other sports and activities that you do (or used to do)? Do you ๐Ÿ’ƒdance? ๐ŸŠSwim? ๐Ÿ„Surf? ๐ŸšดBike? ๐Ÿ‚Snowboard? ๐ŸŽฟSki? ๐Ÿ‡ Ride horses? ๐Ÿ‘ I wore a pedometer in the parks a few years ago, and walked over 7 miles in a day without really even being aware of it! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 9:03AM
Oh I need to try a pedometer at Disneyland just to see if we really do walk 100 miles a day, as my children would have me believe. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1841.5 #43 9:12AM

๐Ÿ’ƒWoohoo! Have you looked into doing a Color Run? Those look so fun! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 9:07AM

The one I did in September and the one I'm going to do in April are color runs. (Color Me Rad) They are such a blast!!!! - Armenda  1059.9 #82 10:36AM
My daughter does the same activities. Pretty cool! - NikkiMickey  1654.8 #47 1:12PM
I did Color Guard for 4 years. Each year we got to march at DL too, tons of fun. I have done the Color Run twice and doing it a third time in May. SO MUCH FUN!!! - aprilinjune4  394.2 #346 1:59PM
As a kid I played sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball, and cheer leading. Now my favourite is running, but I also like to do Zumba, and turbo kickboxing when I'm lucky enough to make I to the gym. - 7mouskedoodles  163.9 #2141 2:18PM
I played soccer for 12 years but stopped my senior year of high school. Now I play tennis for fun and play in multiple adult kickball leagues. I had to take a little hiatus while pregnant and can't wait to get back into kickball once my little one is born. - KelstersInc2319  33.9 #4302 2:31PM
I had no idea they had adult kickball leagues! That sounds like so much fun! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 2:40PM
It's a ton of fun, which is one of the reasons I miss it so much. My husband and I play on a few teams together so that's a plus and we have met some amazing friends. - KelstersInc2319  33.9 #4302 2:46PM

โœจ๐ŸƒโœจI'm signed up for the DL Half! Yay! I've wanted to do this for 4 years now, and finally we can make it work this year. Question for those of you who have done this before...if you could experience your first half marathon again, would you have wanted it to be a runDisney event, or would you have rather run a local "practice" half to see how it goes before the more expensive, more fun   More...
Woohoo!! I'm so excited for you SOS! The DL Half last year was my first ever half marathon. I did other 5K and 10K races beforehand, but I wanted Disney to be my first half. The 5K and 10K races were my "practice" races and I learned a lot from them so I definitely recommend doing some of those (for example- learning what to eat or what not to eat, which shoes work and which don't, etc.). In my training, the most I ran was about 12 miles so I knew that I could handle the half. I will say that the runDisney races spoiled me though. Now I'm very dissatisfied with the races here in Vegas. Besides the DL Half, I also ran the Wine & Dine Half in WDW and the Tinker Bell Half a few days ago. If you have anymore questions, just let me know! I'm doing the Dumbo Challenge so maybe we can have a Chub 33 meet up! If you have fb, check out the #Team runDisney group. They have lots of tips for runDisney races. - PirateQueenBriezy  291.4 #679 11:06AM
Thanks! This confirmed what I was thinking exactly! I know I should do a few practices to work out the kinks, but wasn't sure if I should try a half or not. I definitely plan on being conditioned to handle the 13 miles! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 3:14PM
Congratulations! That is a big commitment, but I have every confidence that you'll LOVE it! Definitely go to the runDisney website and download Jeff Galloway's training program. - D55CR  245.7 #1069 4:03PM
Thanks! Yeah, I've already been looking at training programs--so excited! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 7:30PM
Good for you SoS! I'd love to do one of those - even I had to walk half of it! I just want to be a part of it all and wear the number and the medal in the park afterwards! - msdizmaui  521.6 #226 11:36PM
It's going to be fun to finally be a part of all if it and feel the adrenaline! I'm definitely looking forward to getting that medal! :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 7:34PM
Tink 1/2 was my first and was so much fun to do for my first! Would love to do it as my first again! Running in the parks was so much fun, I think I forgot I was running. - NikkiMickey  1654.8 #47 9:43PM

My post-workout breakfast! I'm addicted to this version of a Green Monster smoothie: in a blender, mix kale, spinach, milk (I use cow milk for the protein, but almond milk tastes great and has fewer calories), a touch of vanilla or plain yogurt, and a mixture of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. I don't measure anything, but the ratio of fruit to veggies is about 40:60. You can't even   More...

I need some advice! I've been waking up at 4:45 am to get my workout in early (my husband's schedule changed and this is the only time we can work out together; plus, it's just too hot in the afternoon now). We've been doing this for about two weeks: two days we run 5 miles, two days we bike for about an hour and a half, and two days we go to the gym for weights and a little cardio. My body is   More...
Darn it sounds so good on paper!..are you getting enough sleep?.. Maybe wind down a little earlier and try and get some more sleep in?..do you have time or drink coffee in the morning? - Twinklelashes  144.4 #2422 1:58PM
I know--I need to go to bed earlier, but I can't sleep! I'm a night person by nature, so this is a bit hard on me, but I'm determined to figure it out! I used to work at a gym and sometimes I'd have the opening shift (had to be there by about 4:30 to open at 4:45). I always wondered how people could possibly be so cheerful and active at that time, lol! It was hard enough to fake a smile and check people in! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 6:24PM
Congrats SOS sounds like you are getting into the groove!.. Skinny jean victory.. Woohoo!!.. I bet Sweet Joey just loves the morning runs too!.. And super cool your workout is done before the sun comes up!.. Awesome job!!!! - Twinklelashes  144.4 #2422 10:06PM
My husband switches shifts often and unless he gets on the new schedule immediately then he is miserable. Sometimes he takes a sleeping pill to help him get to sleep earlier. After a few days of that routine, his body usually adjusts. I don't like taking pills and I dont drink coffee so as soon as I wake up I turn on all the lights and I start the shower off with cooler water than usual. Music helps too. Good luck! - PirateQueenBriezy  291.4 #679 9:57PM
I'm so impressed SOS!  I wish that I were a morning person...but I'm just not!  This week I set my alarm for 1/2 hour early to use my eliptical before I showered.  Didn't happen...(and probably never will!) - msdizmaui  521.6 #226 8:29PM
Lol, I honestly couldn't do it without my husband's encouragement. I've never really liked sleeping in late, but I'm not a morning person either. The weight loss is encouraging (I've been stalled lately). Went shopping today--things fit well and I felt good for the first time in a few years, really. So I came home and tried on my "skinny jeans," (bought them on my honeymoon). They've been a bit tight for the last two years, but now they fit again! So that's motivation to keep getting up early and staying motivated. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 8:41PM
How are things goin MDM?.. Besides elliptical workout!..lil.. Gettin up early before work is tough! - Twinklelashes  144.4 #2422 9:58PM
Set my alarm early every morning this week...and never happened once! I'm going to try again this weekend. I'm SO not a morning person! - msdizmaui  521.6 #226 1:11AM
It's a tough balance!.. But if anyone can make it work you can!.. - Twinklelashes  144.4 #2422 9:34AM
It sounds like your adjusting pretty well on your own. If you ever have trouble getting to sleep, I find taking a melatonin pill very helpful. It's not like a sleeping pill because your body produces melatonin naturally anyway. Adding a little more makes me a little more tired as long as I turn off the lights and get in bed. It doesn't really work if I stay active. Costco sells a huge package of melatonin but I'm sure other stores have smaller ones as well. - TamiPoppins  39.7 #4076 9:23AM
Thank you--I have good days and not-do-great ones (felt awful this morning, and my jog went really slowly today). I thought about melatonin, but I wasn't really sure. It's relatively gentle on your body, right? I don't like sleeping pills or Benadryl or any of those because I just hate the feeling of having meds in me (I feel all dehydrated and icky). Maybe I'll buy some and try it every so often. Thank you for the feedback! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 10:07AM

This might be an odd question, but I'd like to get feedback from people who I know care about what goes in their bodies. Does anyone have any experience with homeopathic or all-natural allergy relief? I have terrible hay fever this year, and on a few days, it's been really hard to exercise and go to work. Claritin makes me extremely anxious and Benedryl and Zyrtec put me to sleep, lol. Allegr  More...
I use NeilMed Sinus Rince every morning and it helpsย SO much.ย  It takes some getting used to but if you use it consistantly you will see (feel) the difference. you can get it at WalMart or any drug store.ย  ย  www.neilmed.com - MXPrincess399  483.1 #251 2:47PM
Just make sure to use distilled water, unless it is pre packaged saline. My co-worker and his wife used this (and tap water). Both got nasty sinus and ear infections. - Sugarbuzz  55.5 #3700 6:01PM
Ok--thank you both! This is helpful! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 7:52PM
Yes. I think you can use cooled, boiled water too, just make sure to read the directions. - MXPrincess399  483.1 #251 6:49PM
I do think the cooled boiled water works. I think it has to be boiled for so many minutes. Can't remember how long though. I forgot about that, or just a little lazy. - Sugarbuzz  55.5 #3700 11:39PM
Have you tried local natural honey? Probably too late for right now but it is supposed to build up immunities to local pollin. - sewgirl  340.5 #444 8:21PM
I tried it last year, but it didn't really work. I might not have started early enough? - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.2 #288 8:35PM
My kids pediatrician recommended local honey as well, seemed to have worked for them this year. I was also told that each year you have to use a different allergy medicine (zyrtec, allegra etc) or they don't work, I haven't experienced trying this but the person who told me says it's true. - disneymommy0910  233.9 #1211 3:20PM
Local honey helps! And it's yummy! - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  294.6 #655 11:17AM
The sinus rinse does help, the instructions come with the pot on how to use distilled vs boiled water. I have to admit, the first few times I used it, I freaked out, it feels really weird, but I got used to it. I also found a homeopathic nasal spray, but my son took it to school with him. Welp. Spending my workout time on hold with the DMV. Gah! I kinda miss being young--it was so much easier to get a workout in, lol.

Marathon Mondays! A marathon seems like so much work, but itโ€™s easy if you take it in small steps! โœจ๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ“ขโœจI was thinking of bringing Marathon Mondays back for the month of May! โœจ๐Ÿƒโœจ For those who haven't done this, basically, we set our own marathon-related ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ goals and work for a month to meet them, with weekly tracking posts.
