✨ Merry Christmas! ✨Weekly Health Goals, December 22-28. Post your health/fitness/weight loss related goals for this week, then check back in at the end of the week to let us know how you did. Let's help each other out!
My goals are three runs, including a 10K, and to not feel stuffed (hate that feeling)!  Have a lovely week, everyone!! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 6:06AM
Oh, I hate that feeling, too! And then I'm just like "Why, do you want to feel like this?" My goal it's to just make better food decisions this week especially since I know it's gonna be another hectic week at work. I may end up at fast food places but I will choose wiser on where and what I order. Christmas is gonna be hard with my father still in the hospital. Trying to prepare myself to support Mom. So afraid of her breaking down Christmas morningπŸ˜” - ElectricMayhemMom  633.9 #230 8:37PM
Good luck on your runs this week.I hope you have a Merry Christmas. - disneyland4me  238.4 #1319 10:29PM
Β This week stay positive I'm a little upset at myself because I haven't lost much weight and I wanted to be smaller to run the Tinkerbell half marathon 5 k. - disneyland4me  238.4 #1319 10:27PM
Yes, try to stay positive.  A few of us have had similar experiences when we've trained for runs, so you're not alone.  Remember that you're building muscle, which is denser than fat tissue.  You might actually be losing fat and gaining muscle (which is FANTASTIC for your overall health) but not seeing much difference on the scale.  Keep it up: you're doing great! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 1:08PM
Well, I got one 5k in, then came down with a chest cold.  Ugh!  It's inevitable this time of year.  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 10:56AM
I've been busy eating EVERYTHING!  I've all set to get back on track for the new year - my head is sort of in the same place that it was after I had my first son (35 years ago...lol).  I had gained so much weight and didn't feel good (not to mention how bad I looked), that I looked forward to being on a diet!  I can't wait to look and feel better!  I can't wait for 2014!!! - msdizmaui  566.1 #274 2:14PM

Good luck on drinking your green smoothies. I don't know if I could drink that. I hope you have a great week - disneyland4me  238.4 #1319 10:35PM
Thanks, and good luck to you, too!  I actually love the smoothies--if you choose the right fruits, you can't taste the kale, but you still get the nutritional benefits!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 10:43PM
May I ask what do you put in your smoothies - disneyland4me  238.4 #1319 12:52AM
I always do water, kale, spinach, and a banana as the base, then I add different fruits: I like pineapple with tangerines or blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.  Sometimes, we add yogurt, almond milk, or protein powder.  We get the frozen fruit and huge bags of spinach and kale (then we freeze the veggies, too) from Costco, and that saves a lot of money!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 8:45AM
I might have to try this. - disneyland4me  238.4 #1319 5:17PM

Not so good...only 2 workouts and 2 protein shakes. Did not like what I saw on the scale and yet still made poor decisions. I'm simply exhausted from work(retail, so it's our busiest time) plus I'm trying to make The Holidays "normal" even though father is still in the hospital. Question for those who have done a DL race: I wasn't able to do a 10k this summer, so I don't have proof of time and I'll be in one of the last corrals. In your experience, have the aid stations ever run out of the sports drinks or the blocks? Just wondering if I need to bring some of my own stuff (blocks and electrolyte tablets), or if I can count on those things being available for the people  More...
I would bring your own. They have powerade at several stations and gu gels. They haven't had blocks at any of the Disney races I've done. I bring my own blocks and electrolyte tablets. For Tink I wore my fuel belt and just refilled my water at the water stations.  - vernswifevickie  396.7 #467 3:42PM
I should add...I've been in the last corral for both of the halfs that I've done and they had plenty of gels and powerade...I just don't like those two things...lol - vernswifevickie  396.7 #467 3:44PM

So glad today went well for you! When things get tough for me, I have to really ask myself what I want. In the end only I can make it happen. I also have to look at my daughter and look at the example I'm setting for her. She's her Momma's daughter so when it comes to weight. She has the potential to have the same issues I do and I don't want that😞 - ElectricMayhemMom  633.9 #230 7:26PM
That's great that you're setting such a positive example for your daughter! I don't have kids yet, but hopefully I will in the future, and that thought motivates me, too--I want to be a good example and provide a healthy environment for them. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 8:47PM
I've never trained for something like that so I wouldn't know. I sort of want to do the run/walk training, but my dog is getting older (he'll be 12 this December) and he's more into sniffing than running. I did okay tonight, but I really don't want to push him (and I'm such a pathetic dog mommy that I wouldn't think of going out without him). I did get on my elliptical tonight for the first time in months. Only did 20 minutes - I guess I could look at that as a workout and push to go longer and longer. Great job SoS. I can't even fathom running 10 miles! - msdizmaui  566.1 #274 11:47PM
I bring my pup with me for my short runs and I stopped off at home to get some Gatorade and picked him up for the last 2 miles yesterday. It breaks my heart having to leave him! One thing I won't miss when this is over is having to be so conscious of my mileage and time. It'll feel good to just relax and enjoy going out with him. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 8:27AM
You are so right that is is more a mental challenge than a physical one. I agree with PQB about changing up your routine so it doesn't get boring. I also try to look back at how far I have come. And also just browse for motivation on Pinterest or some of the run club pages on Facebook. That will usually get my juices going and make me want to get back out there. Congrats on your 10 miles! (I did 6 today - my longest run to date!). That is awesome! Enjoy your DL Half....it will be here before you know it. You will rock it! - D55CR  249.8 #1186 10:48AM
Congrats on your 6 miler! Thanks for the advice! I've also started using a few mantras when I'm feeling sluggish and those really helped! βœ¨πŸƒβœ¨I'm signed up for the DL Half! Yay! I've wanted to do this for 4 years now, and finally we can make it work this year. Question for those of you who have done this before...if you could experience your first half marathon again, would you have wanted it to be a runDisney event, or would you have rather run a local "practice" half to see how it goes before the more expensive, more fun   More...
Woohoo!! I'm so excited for you SOS! The DL Half last year was my first ever half marathon. I did other 5K and 10K races beforehand, but I wanted Disney to be my first half. The 5K and 10K races were my "practice" races and I learned a lot from them so I definitely recommend doing some of those (for example- learning what to eat or what not to eat, which shoes work and which don't, etc.). In my training, the most I ran was about 12 miles so I knew that I could handle the half. I will say that the runDisney races spoiled me though. Now I'm very dissatisfied with the races here in Vegas. Besides the DL Half, I also ran the Wine & Dine Half in WDW and the Tinker Bell Half a few days ago. If you have anymore questions, just let me know! I'm doing the Dumbo Challenge so maybe we can have a Chub 33 meet up! If you have fb, check out the #Team runDisney group. They have lots of tips for runDisney races. - PirateQueenBriezy  294.2 #802 11:06AM

My post-workout breakfast! I'm addicted to this version of a Green Monster smoothie: in a blender, mix kale, spinach, milk (I use cow milk for the protein, but almond milk tastes great and has fewer calories), a touch of vanilla or plain yogurt, and a mixture of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. I don't measure anything, but the ratio of fruit to veggies is about 40:60. You can't even   More...

I need some advice! I've been waking up at 4:45 am to get my workout in early (my husband's schedule changed and this is the only time we can work out together; plus, it's just too hot in the afternoon now). We've been doing this for about two weeks: two days we run 5 miles, two days we bike for about an hour and a half, and two days we go to the gym for weights and a little cardio. My body is   More...
Darn it sounds so good on paper!..are you getting enough sleep?.. Maybe wind down a little earlier and try and get some more sleep in?..do you have time or drink coffee in the morning? - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2561 1:58PM
I know--I need to go to bed earlier, but I can't sleep! I'm a night person by nature, so this is a bit hard on me, but I'm determined to figure it out! I used to work at a gym and sometimes I'd have the opening shift (had to be there by about 4:30 to open at 4:45). I always wondered how people could possibly be so cheerful and active at that time, lol! It was hard enough to fake a smile and check people in! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 6:24PM
Congrats SOS sounds like you are getting into the groove!.. Skinny jean victory.. Woohoo!!.. I bet Sweet Joey just loves the morning runs too!.. And super cool your workout is done before the sun comes up!.. Awesome job!!!! - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2561 10:06PM
My husband switches shifts often and unless he gets on the new schedule immediately then he is miserable. Sometimes he takes a sleeping pill to help him get to sleep earlier. After a few days of that routine, his body usually adjusts. I don't like taking pills and I dont drink coffee so as soon as I wake up I turn on all the lights and I start the shower off with cooler water than usual. Music helps too. Good luck! - PirateQueenBriezy  294.2 #802 9:57PM
I'm so impressed SOS!  I wish that I were a morning person...but I'm just not!  This week I set my alarm for 1/2 hour early to use my eliptical before I showered.  Didn't happen...(and probably never will!) - msdizmaui  566.1 #274 8:29PM
Lol, I honestly couldn't do it without my husband's encouragement. I've never really liked sleeping in late, but I'm not a morning person either. The weight loss is encouraging (I've been stalled lately). Went shopping today--things fit well and I felt good for the first time in a few years, really. So I came home and tried on my "skinny jeans," (bought them on my honeymoon). They've been a bit tight for the last two years, but now they fit again! So that's motivation to keep getting up early and staying motivated. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 8:41PM
How are things goin MDM?.. Besides elliptical workout!..lil.. Gettin up early before work is tough! - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2561 9:58PM
Set my alarm early every morning this week...and never happened once! I'm going to try again this weekend. I'm SO not a morning person! - msdizmaui  566.1 #274 1:11AM
It's a tough balance!.. But if anyone can make it work you can!.. - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2561 9:34AM
It sounds like your adjusting pretty well on your own. If you ever have trouble getting to sleep, I find taking a melatonin pill very helpful. It's not like a sleeping pill because your body produces melatonin naturally anyway. Adding a little more makes me a little more tired as long as I turn off the lights and get in bed. It doesn't really work if I stay active. Costco sells a huge package of melatonin but I'm sure other stores have smaller ones as well. - TamiPoppins  40.6 #4516 9:23AM
Thank you--I have good days and not-do-great ones (felt awful this morning, and my jog went really slowly today). I thought about melatonin, but I wasn't really sure. It's relatively gentle on your body, right? I don't like sleeping pills or Benadryl or any of those because I just hate the feeling of having meds in me (I feel all dehydrated and icky). Maybe I'll buy some and try it every so often. Thank you for the feedback! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 10:07AM

This might be an odd question, but I'd like to get feedback from people who I know care about what goes in their bodies. Does anyone have any experience with homeopathic or all-natural allergy relief? I have terrible hay fever this year, and on a few days, it's been really hard to exercise and go to work. Claritin makes me extremely anxious and Benedryl and Zyrtec put me to sleep, lol. Allegr  More...
I use NeilMed Sinus Rince every morning and it helpsΒ SO much.Β  It takes some getting used to but if you use it consistantly you will see (feel) the difference. you can get it at WalMart or any drug store.Β  Β  www.neilmed.com - MXPrincess399  627.9 #233 2:47PM
Just make sure to use distilled water, unless it is pre packaged saline. My co-worker and his wife used this (and tap water). Both got nasty sinus and ear infections. - Sugarbuzz  112.7 #3107 6:01PM
Ok--thank you both! This is helpful! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 7:52PM
Yes. I think you can use cooled, boiled water too, just make sure to read the directions. - MXPrincess399  627.9 #233 6:49PM
I do think the cooled boiled water works. I think it has to be boiled for so many minutes. Can't remember how long though. I forgot about that, or just a little lazy. - Sugarbuzz  112.7 #3107 11:39PM
Have you tried local natural honey? Probably too late for right now but it is supposed to build up immunities to local pollin. - sewgirl  342.5 #573 8:21PM
I tried it last year, but it didn't really work. I might not have started early enough? - Spoonful_O_Sugar  492.2 #343 8:35PM
My kids pediatrician recommended local honey as well, seemed to have worked for them this year. I was also told that each year you have to use a different allergy medicine (zyrtec, allegra etc) or they don't work, I haven't experienced trying this but the person who told me says it's true. - disneymommy0910  234.4 #1373 3:20PM
Local honey helps! And it's yummy! - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  544.4 #289 11:17AM
The sinus rinse does help, the instructions come with the pot on how to use distilled vs boiled water. I have to admit, the first few times I used it, I freaked out, it feels really weird, but I got used to it. I also found a homeopathic nasal spray, but my son took it to school with him.
