unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. Automated crowd prediction calendars are worthless--the UNFORECAST is where it's at!

Update for week of Monday, September 15, 2014

Park Hours: Disneyland: 10am-8pm (Monday-Wednesday), 9am-5pm (Thursday*), 9am-12am (Friday and Saturday), 8am-12am (Sunday).

Disney California Adventure: 10am-8pm (Monday-Wednesday), 9am-8pm (Thursday), 9am-10pm (Friday and Saturday), 8am-10pm (Sunday).

*Disneyland Park will close at 5pm on Thursday due to a Cast Member Service event that evening. Also that day, Mickey's Soundsational Parade has been cancelled due to the event.

Fantasmic: 9pm and 10:30pm (Friday-Sunday), Remember Dreams Come True fireworks 9:25pm (Friday-Sunday), World of Color: 8:15pm (Monday-Thursday), 9:45pm (Friday/Sunday), 9pm (Saturday).

Attraction closures: Indiana Jones (9/16-9/19), Mark Twain Riverboat (now through 11/29), Finding Nemo (now through 9/27), Golden Zephyr (9/17-9/19).

Halloween Time has now started at the parks, including with the seasonal attraction overlays such as Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.  Also, make sure to check out the many food and beverage locations that offer special offerings just for the Halloween season.

Reminder that Mickey's Halloween Party starts on Friday, September 26, in which Disneyland Park will close early for the private event.

unForcast Crowd Prediction: With it being very hot at the parks this week and with both parks closing early, expect both parks to be quiet as the resort is in "non-peak" season.  As we get into the weekend, the temperature is supposed to go back to normal, which will cause the crowds to increase by Friday and Saturday.

Have a great week MWers! - BaseballMickey_CM Sep 15, 2014 10:18AM
Update for Monday, September 8, 2014:

Park Hours: Disneyland: 10am-8pm (Mon-Thurs), 9am-12am (Fri), 9am-11pm (Sat), 8am-12am (Sun). DCA: 10am-8pm (Mon-Thurs), 9am-10pm (Fri), 9am-9pm (Sat), 8am-10pm (Sun). World of Color: 8:15pm (Mon-Thurs), 9:45pm (Fri), 9pm (Sat-Sun).

Halloween Time returns this Friday! Little by little this week, we'll see Disneyland Park transform to the fall season with all of the decor and the return of Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy (both opening on Friday). Also, the Pirates League and the Halloween Carnival both return to Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree, so make sure to check out the villains hang out, the pumpkin art and seasonal food offerings.

If you're a pin trader/collector, Thursday is a big pin release date with several limited edition villain pins being released, a new Haunted Mansion Annual Passholder Exclusive pin, and a new Halloween Time pin for Disney Vacation Club members.

As announced last week, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit will now host meet and greets on Buena Vista Street in DCA, starting on Sunday, September 14.

White Water Snacks in Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa will be closed from September 8 through 20 for a refurbishment.

unForecast Crowd Prediction: Expect both parks to be quiet Monday through Thursday as we are now in the "non-peak" season, with both parks closing at 8pm. But Friday, expect the crowds to pick up in the afternoon/evening when the weekend arrives and Halloween Time has returned, plus it also being Dapper Day on Friday too. As for Saturday and Sunday, expect to be moderately busy because of it being the first weekend of Halloween Time in Disneyland Park.

Have a great week MWers!  - BaseballMickey_CM Sep 7, 2014 10:44PM
Update for Monday, September 1, 2014:

Park Hours: Labor Day (Monday) DL: 8am-12am, DCA: 8am-10pm; Tuesday-Thursday- Both parks 10am-8pm; Friday-Sunday, DL: 9am-11pm, DCA: 9am-9pm. "Magical" Fireworks will be shown on Monday, Friday through Sunday at 9:25pm, Fantasmic will be shown on Monday, Friday through Sundays at 9pm and 10:30pm and World of Color will be shown daily at 9:45pm (Monday, Friday-Sunday) and 8:15pm (Tuesday-Thursday).

Attraction closures: Haunted Mansion (reopens 9/12), Jungle Cruise (Tuesday-Thursday), Big Thunder Ranch (reopens 9/12), Main Street Photo Supply (reopens 9/24)

FYI: Annual Passholder Event, "Fall Back to Fun", in Disney California Adventure Park on Tuesday night, 8pm-12am. Event is only open to AP Holders celebrating their pass anniversary between October 1 through December 5 and was invitation only. Guests of the registered AP Holders must be registered in advanced online and must have their valid AP the night of the event. Check in will be at Toll Booth 4 starting at 2pm. Registration for the event is no longer available.

Also, "Legends of Frontierland" was extended and will stick around a little longer.

unForecast Crowd Prediction: Expect it to be crowded on Monday as it is Labor Day and all APs are open, but it is also a work/school night, so expect the crowds to decrease by the later afternoon/night. For the rest of the week, expect it to be low to moderate crowds as most schools have started and both parks closing earlier for this short "non-peak" season. Reminder that Halloween Time at the Resort officially starts on Friday, September 12!

Have a great week MWers!

- BaseballMickey_CM Aug 31, 2014 11:28PM
Update for the week of Monday, August 25th:

Park hours: DL (9am-10pm weekdays, 9am-12am weekends); DCA (9am-9pm weekdays, 9am-10pm weekends). Since the parks are closing earlier during the week, Fantasmic will only be shown Friday-Sunday, World of Color will be shown at 9pm and the "Magical!" fireworks will be shown at 9:25pm daily (weather permitting).

FYI: this is a last full week to participate in "Legends of Frontierland" in Frontierland as it concludes on Monday, September 1st. Also, the Adventure Trading Company's last day in the jungle will be Monday, August 25 and will move onto a new adventure, so make sure to catch them!

unForecast Crowd Prediction: Expect it to be quiet to moderately busy this week as many schools go back this week, but there's also still quite a few people getting their end of summer vacation in at the Resort before school starts after Labor Day for them. But, reminder that this weekend is the Disneyland Half Marathon, so expect crowds to pick up Thursday and/or Friday as runners and their families come in for this weekend's events. And make sure to keep an eye out for any road closures late Saturday night to mid Sunday morning if you are coming to the Resort this coming weekend!

Have a great week! - BaseballMickey_CM Aug 25, 2014 12:00AM
July was arguably one of the slowest months of the year (some say the Sunday on Independence Day Weekend was the slowest day of the year). However, we saw crowd levels rise Sat Aug 2, and they've been steady through today (Aug 5). With the Socal passes coming good Aug 18, we should see good crowds throughout the end of the month.  - Admin Aug 5, 2014 2:23PM

We have always noticed that Saturdays are better than Sundays! We always come on the weekend and say we want to leave at dinner time on Sunday, but always leave by 11-12 because there are so many people. We love Saturday!! - 1Princess3Princes  351.2 #579 5:39PM
I agree. I think it has to do with most passes being blocked - PoohSizedGuy  18.5 #6532 11:53PM
I agree with BaseballMickey_CM.  Saturdays are the lightest days when all other passes are blocked out.  The 4th may be crowded because of the holiday, but I'll take that over a crazy Sunday any day. - potatohead25  541.8 #316 2:55PM
My solo visit last Saurday was the lightest crowd I remember in a long time, especially during the Summer! - grumpypapa  2089.3 #53 4:52PM
I agree @grumpypapa, last Sat. was as uncrowded as I've seen it in a long while! Besides the AP block outs, it might also be that people were waiting to visit until they were off work/school over July 4th weekend. - debbiev  788.4 #195 10:23PM
Just curious... Is there somewhere we can access past weeks for unForecast?? I love this info, and am interested in archived dates, if there are any? Thank you! - ames013  65.3 #3929 7:57PM

I have an observation. Please read through before replying. I've been on MouseWait for over two years. I live 6 hours away by car so trips are a real treat. I try to post when I am at the Parks but truly, I'm not real consistent. I love the real time features, but to be honest the Lounge has turned into a hang-out for those of you who are fortunate enough to be frequent visitors. You have no idea   More...
If your post gets pushed down by other posts, just bump it yourself by adding a short comment. 'Can anyone answer this, please ' would work. Sometimes posts don't get seen. Sometimes people don't have the answer. Sometimes an answer might be found by reading other posts in the lounge. You're right that people have becomes friends and friendly on here. It would be a pretty boring place otherwise. I do understand how it might feel cliquey to a newcomer. But for those who want to feel a part of things, the answer is to jump in and become a part of the community. There are folks on MW from all over the world. I can think of at least two MWers from Australia who have managed to make themselves part of the fun here. They certainly aren't in the parks all the time. Far from it. If you enjoy a picture that someone has posted, please tell them so. You can also show appreciation my 'thanking' quality posts. By not thanking or commenting on other posts, they will get pushed down.  How this helps! - MeridaFan  3260.9 #27 6:43PM
I don't think people are intentionally ignoring questions, but I do understand what you mean. I don't post much anymore because I noticed that even when I was in the parks, by the time my pics would load, it would be waaay down the page, due to flooding of pics in the lounge. I definitely don't think people were ignoring my pics/posts. It's just impossible to keep them bumped with the high volume of pics posted daily by people there every day. - RCmom  5084.6 #15 7:14PM
But I love your posts so much, always great photos that offer different perspective :) - ThinkTink23  22.9 #5906 7:34PM
I love to be able to post my pictures tho. It makes me feel like I'm part even when nobody seems to see them - DeneciePie  314.8 #720 7:34PM
Everyone should be able to post their pix. Thats part of what community is all about. Sharing the lounge. Everyone should have equal opportunity to participate. It is so much more fun to see lots of different perspectives from behind the camera. So please post your pix when you are here. I love when out of towners her to go and I know what I can expect from this person or that in respect to the types of pix we will be blessed with. I always enjoy seeing how RCmom's beautiful girls have grown from the last trip. What antics our HandMeAChurroImmaFaint is going to get into. Keeps it fresh and lots of fun in the Lounge. And if you comment on others' posts in the meantime, people will get a chance to get to know you, so when you visit the parks next, we can look forward to your posts too DeneciePie - MeridaFan  3260.9 #27 8:03PM
I think that sometimes questions go unanswered because we tend to look for pictures, which isn't right.  I am guilty of that myself.  As for when I am in the parks, which is only a few times a year due to living in Texas, I don't post to try to get comments or thank you's, I just post to try to add quality content. For all I care, people can look at my picture and think of the parks and move on, I don't need my ego stroked by thank you's.  I am going to work on answering questions, or if I don't know the answer, just responding so that people do not feel ignored.  This is a community, and we should all be willing to help with even the simplest of questions! - Thumper13  354.8 #572 1:31PM
I always try to answer questions if I know the answer. I'm in the Phoenix area and am not in the park that often. I would say that posts do get pushed down often and if nobody comments on it, they will never see it. If you post late at night and then 100 people post after it, the question might get pushed down. Same thing could happen if it's in the morning. I don't think anybody purposely would not answer. They also might have been afraid if they said nope crowds have been light that the next day they would be overflowing. Crowds can vary and they might have been afraid to give the wrong answer. Or they were in the park and never saw the question. Don't give up on asking questions.  - warchanted  125.6 #2918 7:03PM
This is a good reminder for all of us to periodically check the "Posts with no Comments" link to see if we can either help someone out or bump their posts!  :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  526.4 #335 10:41AM

August 3, 2014 12:16 PM  Disneyland Talk Land
Hey there, all you Disneyland experts, I have a question I hope you can answer. I have been watching the current crowd numbers from my home in Northern California and I have been seeing numbers in the 60-70 range all week. We usually come in the " off season" but the past few trips we have noticed the crowd numbers are usually 80-90. Are the crowds calculated the same all year? Are we just fabulou  More...
I was surprised two weeks ago that the crowds were relatively light for summer. But I did go on a Saturday. I hear Sundays are actually more crowded due to more Passholder attendance. Saturdays, all passes are blocked except for Premium. Hope this helps! I would always prefer heavier crowds if there are more attractions open. More options to choose from. Just my humble opinion. - Alicewhoareyou  1021.8 #145 5:47PM
Also, if you haven't been during Halloween and Christmastime, I would recommend it. Magical! - Alicewhoareyou  1021.8 #145 5:52PM
We went in June and had some of the lightest crowds we've ever had. We like summer for the hours and the fact the rides are usually running at max capacity. We've noticed when we visit other times of the year the wait can be as long simply because they aren't running full capacity. We do a lot of early mornings, nap, and late nights to get the most out of our trips.  - mommalostone  48.8 #4352 7:14PM
Keep an eye on when all the passes open up. Most local districts return to school the last 2 weeks in August. That means 2 things heavy crowds because folks drop their kids off at Disney as they return to their school jobs or it could get lighter. Hard to guess. This year the crowds were different than before. Heavy grad nights in May till 2 weeks into June then cheap passes were blocked and the end of June was very light. July was not too bad yet it was peak in previous years. I have been out due to medical except I did visit on Wednesday and the lines were at the 55-60 min mark. Good luckΒ  - Plumiegirl  7817.4 #3 8:37PM
I think that there isn't a precise time where the parks are not very crowded, I'm about 1,500 miles away and planning is crucial for me.I've found that the second week of January  and the second week of September is the best time where crowds are ok, a maximum 45 minute wait...Hope this helps you - CaptainMouse777  11.0 #8577 8:44PM
We have done the second week of January and it was great. I don't live close but I have been going for 59 years and made sure to pass the addiction to kids and grand kids! - DeneciePie  314.8 #720 8:50PM

Is the crowd index accurate? 30 seems so low for Disneyland and now I want to take that 7 hour drive back down.
I want to know, too! We can only come a few times a year because of the expense of travel, hotels, meals etc. usually plan " off season" trips but it has been way more crowded in winter and short days/ limited entertainment then. If it's going to be less crowded it would be great to come in summer! - DeneciePie  314.8 #720 12:45PM

#NEWS Beginning October 3rd, you can make reservations for the Disneyland Resort (including DTD and the hotels) online! If you make a reservation, you will have to supply a credit card number. If you don't cancel the day before, a $10 fee will be charged. Here is the link for the reservations http://bit.ly/16XdIYo
took them long enough. WDW has had this for a LONG TIME - Dave  11266.8 #2 10:31AM
I'm really surprised they did the emails first... Kinda seems like a waste of time. But at least they're catching up finally - SPandEvLover  2772.6 #34 11:08AM
I thought WDW did too but I made reservations for this week and next week online and they didn't ask me for a credit card to book.  - Seebritatdland  268.6 #1043 11:32AM
They do ask for Credit Cards for a few of the finer dining places like CA Grill, Citricos, Jiko, and others at the resort so if you dont show up and cancel they charge you 20 buicks - Dave   11266.8 #2 11:53AM
20 buicks?!? That's kinda steep πŸš™πŸš˜πŸš—πŸš•πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ - SPandEvLover  2772.6 #34 11:57AM
well if you don't have the decency to call and say your late or you cant make it and flake out on your reservation I think its fair since they are holding a spot for you at a fine dining establishment that usually has  waiting list of people who want to get in and it screws things up so its a way for them to encourage people to be courteous or pay - Dave   11266.8 #2 3:29PM
Omg SPE πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I agree, 20 Buicks is a very costly amount! Dave, 20 bucks isn't bad for what you said. πŸ˜‰ - BriHizzle  374.8 #522 3:43PM
Yeah... I get the $20, Dave. I was attempting to be funny lol - SPandEvLover  2772.6 #34 4:19PM
well the entrees at those places run from anywhere starting at 38 to 65 a plate so the 20 dollars is still much less than you'd pay for dinner - Dave   11266.8 #2 4:21PM
In the nicer restaurants, if you make a reservation, they hold the table, meaning the server cannot make income off that table, the steward, the busboy, everyone, so maybe the $20 will remind people to not flake out.  I wonder how late they will hold a table though, I have seen people be an hour late and demand to be seated.  I hope this helps the employees out too. - secretagentangel  1242.8 #101 4:27PM
Hahaha, beautifully done with the joke SP ^_^ I see what you did there! - KylaShea  629.1 #265 10:14AM
They'd better make it real simple to cancel, then!  Hopefully done online, as well.  - MeridaFan  3260.9 #27 7:45AM
