Wow. I haven't been here in a while, but I opened it up because it's The Birthday, saw this post, and burst into tears. The greatness that was about to happen with Disneyland, and they didn't even know what they had. Well, maybe Walt knew, but could he have imagined the scope of it? Then I get here to Duchess' great post going on and on about today, then everyone chiming in, and then all the thank  More...

I'm old, but DL is older than me! My first visit was when I was 5 or 6, 1963, I think. While i don't remember a lot of specifics about those early visits, moments do stick out: riding the boats, driving Autopia cars, the skyway, getting a balloon every trip, imagining I saw characters in Storybook Land, meeting James Garner and his daughter in line for the Matterhorn. DL obviously made an impression because as a child I made it a goal to work there one day (which I did!) and would give "tours" using a big DL map to my friends who didn't get to go. 50+ years of loving and appreciating the "Disney Way" has truly made my life better: from my work ethics, seeing the magic in every day things, opening that creative portion of my mind...and meeting some beautiful people who I love dearly. - Gia  802.0 #208 11:09AM
This gave me goosebumps! Chicken Plantation Restaurant in Frontierland, you say? That sounds interesting. I'll bet that's where inspiration came for the Plaza Inn's chicken dinner! I was not born yet for opening day, so was not there. How nice that construction workers were invited that first day! Being without water fountains must have been tough in the 90 degree heat! I plan to watch this video later. Perhaps in the car on our way to the happiest place on earth! We are heading down shortly!! I cannot wait to be there again and hope to make it there for the 2:30 celebration! Hope to see you there! Thank you. - MeridaFan  3529.0 #36 5:44AM

I've been stuck everywhere on all kinds of rides, but only I've only gotten walked-off from Hell in Mr. Toad. It's so unfair. That would be my ultimate bucket list wish: a walk-off ride backstage tour.

Two weeks ago we were walked off RSR. Got stuck in ramones. Cast member showed us all the hidden mickeys and other cool stuff. Funny thing is that ramone still blinked and looked at us while we were in there. We got fast passes to come back later. Love the CMs at DCA! - streetsweeper  512.3 #376 6:57PM

Submarine ride, we had to swim back to the dock. (No not really) - friendlymouse  727.9 #232 3:04PM
It's actually happened, but it was an orientation trip for 3 new CMs back in 1987. The sub had to be roped by boats in front and back... The new CMs were towed into the caverns and allowed to walk off in there to the storage dock. - BombFrogFormerCM  866.5 #192 6:20PM
never ever never been chosen to walk off!!! Almost one night in HM but unfortunately the attraction started up at 15 minutes and we were stuck in front of a door anyway. would love one on grizzly or pirates.:D - secretagentangel  1555.9 #95 2:42PM
I've only walked off btmr and it happened two times. Once was when I was 11 with my brother and we stopped in the beginning in the cave where all the creepy eyes look at you before he first hill! He other time was last year with my husband. We stopped at the very end past the bones next to the storefronts and saloon. Didn't get any hookups those two times! You guys who got free fast passes or coupons are lucky lol 😁 - LittleMermaidLover  290.4 #899 3:36PM

To see the fireworks and Fantasmic: I'll stand on the left side of the hub near the Adventureland doors. It's like being a giant sailing through lands that Disney created. - Art2D2  211.9 #1768 2:28AM
It's a spectacular attraction! Especially to experience at night. You are taken by a boat, with a skipper, around different miniature scenes from the popular Disney stories. From Alice's village, to Cinderella's castle; 3 little pigs homes and Agrabah. (plus many more). I've been on this attraction a few times and still see something new each time! The line is definitely worth the wait! ✨ - PrincessMacy  536.5 #351 8:46AM

Wasn't it amazing? I just stayed up all last night because I'm up this late anyway. A few more hours to the big moment wouldn't hurt. It's probably a good thing I was at home. If I was at a hotel down by DLR, I probably would have blown out their internet with all the live feeds I had going. Then it was a big online rainbow party and I cried for four or five hours and went to bed. History made. :  More...

:-D - coffeesnob  196.4 #1952 4:24AM

It's an amazing slide show of the making of space mountain. I've never seen those pics before. Thanks!

A nice lil description would be helpful so we know what the link is for. Also, next time try using tinyurl or some other site to shorten the link please. - KermitFan13  653.6 #276 6:07PM

I loved the skyway, too, especially where it went through the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn was my favorite ride, but it was closed for a few trips in a row, so the next best thing was riding the skyway through it.

Again you have stirred some amazing memories! The Tiki room was a must do as a child...my mom loved it; dad not so much - too much sitting! I went through a long period of time where it was a "meh" attraction. Only went if it was hot or I was tired. But lately, especially after going with folks who have never experienced it I am enjoying it much more. As for the Skyway - I miss it! It was a definite must do every visit. My dad and I got stuck on it once, halfway to the Matterhorn from Fantasyland. Someone had fallen against the emergency shut off switch, so we heard. We were up there about 45 min and my mother ( on the ground!) was frantic. But I loved it! Just watching the crowds, the skyline and being with my dad alone in such a magical place was wonderful. We sang Disney songs to pass the time and he occasionally would threaten to swing it. Everytime I walk by the somewhat hidden Fantasyland station, I smile at the memories. - Gia  802.0 #208 1:29PM
My father used to sing, act and whistle professionally. His teacher was Marion Darlington, who is credited as doing many of the bird whistles in the Tiki Room. She also did the bird noises for Snow White, Cinderella, Bambi and many others. She was Alice's crying voice in Alice in Wonderland. I never met her, but my father talked about her a lot. I think she was instrumental in helping my dad get jobs. She accompanied my father and his family to Yosemite, where he sang and whistled during the fire fall they used to do at the Ahwanhnee Hotel. So, the Tiki Room brings back memories of my dad, as she taught him many of the bird calls and whistles from the movies she did. Every time we went in the Tiki Room, we had to hear the story of Marion Darlington. It got old, but now I appreciate the history so much. - snowwannab  728.8 #231 1:57PM
That's fascinating!! I'm lucky to be old enough to have seen the Fire Falls at Yosemite. Such a beautiful sight. - Gia  802.0 #208 2:00PM
Hard to find someone that knows what that was. It really was beautiful. - snowwannab  728.8 #231 2:04PM
I have always had a love for the Tiki Room. Now that I have minis, it's even more magical! - NellTinkerBell  322.8 #724 5:10PM
