I recommend the Hyatt regency Orange County. It's high end but half the price of DL. We don't have kids yet so staying on site for the proximity to the park isn't important to us. But if u have kids that need to go back and nap taking the monorail back to the hotel is pretty nice.
As Princess Duckie mentioned, it's that 'no outside world' that makes it a real resort vacation. Comfortable beds and beautiful rooms. Top notch amenities all around. If you have little ones and want to return to room for a nap or a swim midday, it's real convenient. We love the magic morning hour. Wish it were two hours. If it won't break the budget, it's definitely a fun thing to do at least once. But there's also nothing wrong with the good neighbor hotels. Access to a shuttle gets you to the park quickly and with minimum wear and tear to your feet. No matter where you stay, you'll be at the happiest place on earth, so you come out a winner either way! - MeridaFan  3185.5 #27 8:49AM
If you really dont care about spending big bucks and your family loves pool, GO FOR DISNEYLAND HOTEL.... But if you are on a budget, stick with good neighbor hotel - otilegna  1745.0 #67 4:07PM
The Hyatt is a good place to stay. We started staying at the Hilton which is across the street and cheaper sometimes. Also...you can ask for a Disneyland view and if they have the rooms available they will upgrade you...I'm not if there was a cost if at all any. We got a DL view and it was amazing! We could see al the fireworks going on. Definitely worth looking into. - pblack29  45.1 #4417 8:17AM

My husband and I stay at the hyatt. It's about $140 a night but worth it since we don't have a car to get around. They offer a shuttle to Disney for a small fee and is close to some great restaurants. We love the on site gym too.
Hojo and or Marriott above the parks due to location. All of the Disney hotels are great but my wife reminds me that if we stay at the Grand she will be happy, ie happy wife equal happy life! - BombFrogCM  640.5 #247 1:36PM
HOJO because they support, but Hilton for first class and cheap. - jobojoko  13.2 #7574 2:12PM
Hojo 😉 - MEHlanie_Mouse  1113.7 #119 1:28PM
We enjoy the Grand for convenience. We have two little ones so it helps being close. I enjoy sitting out on the balcony and watching the fireworks each night in the summer. - BibbidiBobbidiBoo  42.5 #4495 2:27PM
The Grand for the convenience, the Disneyland for the pools/water slides! - cinderelli  337.9 #611 2:31PM

Bobsleds for sure!!
Oh man, my parents and grandparents took my sister and I to Disneyland when I was 5 and she was 3. We got on Pirates and I distinctly remember being on the floor of the boat next to my dad's legs almost the entire ride. My dad kept laughing and telling me to stand up, I would get up for a second and then get too scared and drop back down. I kept telling my mom and dad that I was playing hide and seek with the pirates but was actually scared to death hahaha. Now it's one of my favorite rides :) - Pipmeister  114.9 #3096 4:24PM
I was a big chicken when I was young, so I was scared of a lot of the rides! Lol! I remember my dad taking me on Big Thunder and just hiding in his lap covering my eyes and screaming. - BettyPoop  237.2 #1354 4:13PM
the sky way always made me kinda scared. Always wondered if they had checked everything out ok before starting - nitromouse  275.1 #953 9:44AM
Space mountain when I was 5. I was so scarred t first and then we rode it back to back, 4 times in a row! Loved it ever since - FoolishMortal138  315.7 #713 10:14AM
