Good morning! This day in Disney history, Sep 2nd, 1979. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction opens. Imagineer Tony Baxter (pictured below) modeled the "wildest ride in the wilderness" attraction after the scenery of Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Do you enjoy this attraction, and why? Has it been awhile since you've enjoyed this attraction? For a ride through video: http://is.gd/Z  More...

I remember what a big deal it was when it first opened. They had long lines similar to the first days of Cars Land. I also remember they kept the "E-Ticket" sign up for several years after the ticket system was done away with. I love the old west theme of BTMRR. Probably since I love western movies and history so much. Oh, and I last rode it way back on Tuesday night. - ScooterMike  1961.4 #59 7:33AM
I LOVE the info you always add ScooterMike! Thank you! Do you by chance remember the average wait time back then? - Duchess_SMK  5550.8 #14 7:39AM
I was five years old, but I recall it being a couple of hours. - ScooterMike  1961.4 #59 7:41AM
